Buy incontinence pads for cleaning up oil in the engine room. Cut to the appropriate size. If you have a continuing leak, leave a couple in the engine room bilge.
Man, you’re so right about the worry. When we transited the canal in the spring, I didn’t get a chance to enjoy it. Our boat was brand new to us, we didn’t know how to work anything on the boat and we only about 2-3 days to build the mast cradle and “prep” the boat for the trip up the Hudson and across the canal and hen a sail all the way across Lake Erie. All I did all day and all night long. So many “what if’s. Good job doing it with only 2 on board. We had 4 crew.
Glad you mentioned why you were checking oil every four hours. I usually check all lubes & coolant each morning when cruising. I assume you got the parts you needed? Enjoy! Smell the roses! ❤️⛵️⚓️
That's pretty funny, not in a funny way, but in a "I've done just that" way. I worry about every knot, the anchor dragging, did I leave something undone... But in the end, I enjoy the journey. At the end of the day, I've made it. I've figured it out and I'm ready for the next "thing". Enjoy the Journey! Peace from Allegro.
When I sail solo I worry less. But with crew it's always in back of your head. It goes away at every safe anchorage or stop you make. Fair winds.we are doing same next year.
There are industrial pads made by PIG and others that will absorb oil and leave the water behind. Vary useful for clean discharge. You might look in to them while still in the U. S.. I’m sure they are hard to find and expensive in the Caribbean. I enjoyed the vlog on the way to NY city.
I’m about 10 days behind you - getting into the canal at Oswego after breakfast tomorrow. I look forward to seeing your mast stepping at Castleton - though I think I am pretty set on just paying the marina in Catskill, our mast is pretty big.
I know this is an old episode, but regarding your confusion on pronunciation: Most of the NY place names along the Erie Canal are either Native American or Ancient Greek. In both cases, the letter "I" in place names (Medina, Oneida, etc.) is pronounced like a Capital "I" or the word "eye" Not the double "e" sound as in "Cheese".
As an over the road truck driver, I would sleep in my truck with the engine running for air conditioning or heating, and I used to have a dream that I went to bed and left the truck going down the highway with no one driving it and I would wake up hyperventilating and rip open the curtain and look out just to see that the truck was parked safely. Dreams like that can be pretty terrifying.
Hi again. Seen from your FB updates, etc. - you are currently at the D&C canal. Good spot! Please consider staying put there, while this thing blows through. I think it's a pretty nice hole (but perhaps you know one better). The last model runs have her going in strong well below you anywhere along the coast of North Carolina or even up to Virgina Beach, with a turn to the North perhaps. Might not be a bad idea to remove your sails, if its going to turn. Also, take on as much extra fuel as you can get canisters for. The bloody system is very large. I'm sure you are watching it! (You seem like an excellent capt'n to me... Tell yer FirstMate from an old seadog - I recon she's in good hands. Best of luck, skipper.
Hey thanks for the advice. We’re in Chesapeake City this morning but headed out in a few hours for the sassafras river. We hear that’s a great place to hunker down for hurricanes. We plan to remove the sails and solar panels and whatever else might catch windage. Thanks a lot for the kind words sir. We’re going to hide soon :)

“Oh-n-eye’-da” 😎
Don't forget the outboard motor. Put the dingy in the water tie it to the side and motor on.

Really nice job on this video. Excellent editing and music. Stay safe!
If I ever go sailing, I’ll feel at home knowing I’m not the only smoker on the water. 🙂

Keep up the good videos.
taking the mast down must have cost you a lot. Thank you for the great videos.
Great video . My cuz had his boat in a marina in Detroit and had it trucked to the Carolinas and put in the water and then headed for the Caribbean .
Watch that storm coming up the coast!!!
Thanks. If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook you’ll see our real time status

Can’t wait to meet you! Yeah tough choice. We’ve done ours alone a few times. It’s 50 feet and very heavy but taking our time helps.

can't wait for solar powered boats to come down in cost ... trips like this would be so much more quiet and peaceful

How many days are you in at this point in the trip.
Hello!
pop tarts....LOL
What was the average depth in places and what was the lowest you guys encountered?
Good video. You may want to consider a membership with boats.com. could save a fortune should you ever need a tow.
You back in Chatham again?
Getting the wife into the engine compartment to clean would never happen on my boat..... even if I begged
Well, did the leaks stop?
Yes sure did. Next episode :)
Shes cleaning up spilt oil in a cramped hard to get out of doghouse while smoking. Musta been quite wasted
