    Nice job. I've known that those sensors exist, but really didn't know how important they were to engine efficiency. You're helping a lot of people save money and keep their BMWs on the road. The E39 is one of BMW's best designs in my opinion.

    Well, I am glad I stopped by your presentation! At 226,000 miles in my’99 528iT with the GM 4 speed trans, had my coolant pipes just starting to go out. Once I removed the intake manifold, I noticed the ping/knock sensor and went on line to get advise since I was already in. Low and behold I saw your video and decided to replace with the OEM VDO sensor that I picked up off of eBay for just a few bucks. I would certainly advise staying away from the Chinese knock off‘s! Now that I have completed the task and put new intake manifold seals on as well, my little M sport wagon runs like a champ! Thank you!
    😎💪❤️
    P.S. I also replaced any rotted rubber hoses and put in a new OEM chain tensioner I picked up at FCP EURO.
    I also noted that above 80 miles an hour (while driving in Mexico) if I downshift into “sport“ my vehicle downshifts whereas previously it did not.🤔

    Thanks for the video. Tackling the CCV on my E46 soon and was contemplating replacing my knock sensors while I have the manifold off. No fault codes yet but creeping up on 200k miles so I might as well. Hopefully I’ll notice a performance improvement. Your videos have been a great help with my BMW upkeep!

      Spaced Kowboy thanks man! Yeah I would definitely do the knock sensors ($57) and the plastic coolant pipes ($40ish?) while you have it apart. You will need intake manifold gaskets ($16) and a throttle body o-ring as well ($4). Full length step by step intake removal video coming soon.

      No need to remove the manifold for CCV replacement, 50skid has a video showing how to replace with the manifold on. I did my e39 530 that way with no issues.

      Max Pullen I’ve done ccv on both e39 and e46. Kowboy states he has an e46, way way harder and less room than the e39. It can be done with manifold on but is difficult

    When you replaced the hard coolant line under the manifold, did you need to take the manifold off completely or just prop it up as you did for the knock sensors?

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beyond Repair I propped it up with a breaker bar similar to this video. I left a few connections plugged in as well as the fuel line. It’s tight, so easier to just remove it all the way.

    • @BIMMERZEITT

      Have seen many m54’s go to 250k with original knock sensors. They are not a common failure item on these cars, but they can fail. They did on this e39!

      Norwegianstuntcrew hi, do you have poor mpg? Are there any stored codes? It could be this or what about clogged catalytic converters?

      Norwegianstuntcrew they have a way of testing the flow to confirm bad cats yes. If the car is running so poorly it will show in the data stream. Try a more reputable shop that specializes in BMW or go to a BMW dealer try paying a few hours of diagnostics

    OMG, you don't buy a BMW for fuel economy. If you're concerned about fuel economy buy a Prius.
