Thanks for another great episode Tash. Every time I see you working on a pair of your Skimmer socks I get a little bit closer to trying them out. I’ve never knitted socks thinking they would hurt my hands, but I’m getting so frustrated with my ankle socks disappearing under my feet that I’m going to have a go. 🤞😃 Wow, your Armor jumper is so gorgeous! Have a fabulous time with your full house! 😃
Thanks so much Susie. I hope you will give them a try. It isnt a lot of knitting and if you can mix it in with some other projects, hopefully they wouldnt hurt your hands. :)
I agree!!! Aren’t we lucky to make our own clothes without spending hours/ days looking for a garment that ends up not being everything we’d like! And the quality!!! So much better ! I thank my mother for teaching me both sewing and knitting when I was younger ..
You are so right about the quality as well. The yarn used in most commercially knitted items is nowhere near as lovely as what we can buy and enjoy as we make. I am very grateful my mum and grandma showed me how to knit. :)
Thanks so much for taking the time to podcast, enjoy your time with your family, we will look forward to hearing about your knitting progress whenever you are ready, kind regards, Zillah 🙏
Great podcast per usual. You can't resist when your kids want to be with you. Where to place short rows tutorial would be great. I haven't understood how and where to place them. Also a tutorial on waist shaping would be great. Thanks.
I'm so enjoying these podcasts. At first I wanted to catch up and watch and watch. Now, I am rationing them. They give me great inspiration! I love when you talk about faith and hope you don't feel like you have to apologize. Nobody should hide their light under a bushel. (Not sure if you know that song about letting your light shine. I remember it from Sunday school, which is a loooong time ago for me)
Thank you so much. I am so glad you are enjoying the podcast. My faith is the most important thing to me in my life and my greatest blessing. I understand that is not the case for everyone but I hope that no matter where people are at, i can be an encouragement. x
Another lovely episode Tash! the Novice sweater was my first ever in the round top down using circulars! I knit if for my mom and she wears it all the time. I learnt to knit through magazines, knitting with straight needles, flat, bottom up in pieces, and I had been knitting on and off...so it was a total shift! the thing is once you get used to the portability of the circulars, the fact that you can try things on as you go...it's hard to go back to knitting in pieces...I also love how in knitting/sewing we can fully express our creativity in creating what WE want and not what is available, although the skills need to be there...🌷
Tash I had a similar thing happen to me when my son, now 43, wanted me to throw a baseball with him. He was 16. I was reading and I declined . But after thinking about it for just a minute I got up and said “absolutely, let’s go!” I realized pretty quickly this will be a “special” moment and it was. Time goes by so quickly don’t pass up those opportunities! Love your podcast very much!
Thank you so much Cathy. It is funny how these moments stay with us and we know which is the choice we will be glad we made later on. Thank you for the lovely encouragement. x
Looking forward to the video on how you calculate adding short rows when they aren’t specified in the pattern. I made an Ankor tee and added short rows because of your suggestion. I really didn’t know how to calculate but I guessed and it turned out…..this time!
Stranger in a Strange Land made an impression on me as a teenager, I remember the “logic”. The stranger asks a woman “what color is that house over there” and she replies “it’s white on this side” - not making any assumptions about the sides she cannot see. That has stuck with me for over 30 years.
I remember that too. There was a lot in that book that made me question things that I had assumed or taken for granted that this was the way things were.
Lovely as always Tash. “Flat out like a lizard drinking!” 😂🤣 wonder if the rest of the world understands that. Play with those kiddies as they grow and leave so quickly. It’s great to have an empty nest and it’s also blah they’re so far away at the same time. Enjoy the in-laws. Dragonfly tat so cute. I’m tattooed, so is hubby we have two matching ones 🤮🤭🤣 freaked everyone out at the time even the artist as one of them has each other’s names and he was like are you SURE?!? 😆 we were dating for less than 2 months at the time 😳😬Happy knitting 🥰
I love that you have tattoos Karen. And that is really cool that you and your husband have matching ones. It is a beautiful thing to feel safe enough to do that. I have to say - I am in awe of your amazingly beautiful knitted dress. I mean, i have knitted a dress or two in my time. But the Cami #4 extension and this new one. Jaw-dropping. You are inspiring. If you ever decide to podcast, i would be your #1 subscriber. Or at least, i woud try to be. You would have lots of people watching. Thanks for being here and supporting me xx
Thanks for sharing your modifications and thoughts on the Stockholm Slipover. I'm planning on making it, so it was helpful to hear your input on it. Thank you!
Love the gradient for your friend from the vault and can’t believe how different it is from the other one. Your half and half is really coming on, I just love the colour. You record when you can, it’s so lovely when you do but please no pressure ❤
I love seeing all your projects this week. I hope you have a wonderful time with your in-laws. Oh what fun for you all to get tattoos. Enjoy your time. Don’t fret over getting a video out. Time with your family is much more important. ❤
Your Personal Stuff segment was so interesting! Its so heart warming to hear when people have strong loving relationships with in laws. You have something very valuable. 😊
Thank you for another fun video. I'm recovering from Covid and I pulled out my knitting while I watched. One of my favorite things about your videos is seeing your color choices. Love them. Enjoy your time with your in-laws and your children. You're right...sometimes you can't do both.
Thank you for the lovely catch-up on your knits. I always learn lots and feel so inspired! Have a wonderful time with your family. I have a mother-daughter tattoo with one of my daughters and I'm so happy for the experience and love the tattoo. Enjoy!
Thank you so much Cat. How wonderful to hear you and one of your daughters have a matching tattoo. Glad you are happy with the experience and the result. :)
Love the friends from the vault especially the sleeves. The black looks so elegant! I am becoming increasingly annoyed with the postal service. I just mailed out some socks to my dad who lives in a suburb of Melbourne 40bucks Canada post charged for arrival in about 3 to 4 weeks… oh but I could have paid 65 bucks but it doesn’t get there any faster it just gives you a tracking number! What’s that all about? Geez. Also ordered a Christmas Eve cast on from the US in addition to the crap dollar they charged me 20 bucks duty on one ball so won’t be ordering from the US again!! I live for the day when I can just teleport and pop in and out delivering my own stuff. 😂 I loved that Collette pattern too it looked stunning on Rachel! Yes I bought it(of course I did cause I can’t help myself)
That is so frustrating with paying so much for shipping. It is like we live in Antarctica or something. There are plenty of flights coming in and out of Australia every day. And yet say Wool and Co. would send yarn from one end of the US to the other for no shipping cost. It is a real shame. I definitely take advantage when my in-laws come to order and have them bring to me. I recognise how lucky i am here. :)
Love your videos, always excited to see what you are up to, but not upset if you need some extra time in creating a video. Our family is really close and I was close to my in-laws too. Have fun with them, enjoy the family time. Always spend time with your kids when they ask, before you know it they will be moved out and you will miss them. I can’t wait to see your tattoo.
Onother pair of skimmer socks. Progress with all your knits especially the wrap. Dont worry about podcasts until your In law family have gone. You have to do life as you did for your daughter and son. Drops yarns are not available in South Africa. Take care ❤😊
Hi Tash , love your videos and the way you share your knowledge of knitting, I have learnt a lot from you 🙏 . Beautiful makes this week as always, I really like the test knit jumper , I’m always on the lookout for higher necklines . Enjoy your family time, is your husband American or his parents live there? It’s hot here in the Adelaide hills as well, hopefully no fires, Bridget R
Another great podcast. Thanks. Loved how you used a mohair to blur the lines of the gradient. What shade of mohair did you use? Did it match the medium colour of the gradient, or was it lighter or darker? Love gradients, but totally with you on the bluntness (?) when you switch shades. Must try your idea out!!!
Thank you so much Karen. The mohair was more on the darker end. If you follow the link in the Description to my project page, I have the yarn i use linked and so you can take a look at the shade there. I find mohair being a bit darker is a generally better. A tiny bit lighter is ok but same or darker is better for me. :)
I’m new to your podcasts, and enjoying them very much. Did I hear correctly that you walk while knitting? Indoors on a treadmill? Please tell me about that!
Hi Julie. Welcome! I'm glad you are here. I knit while walking outside but always on paved footpaths and not bushwalking. I might do a standalone podcast on how i do it and see if i can rope one of my kids into coming with me and filming. I always pick a small project and either have the ball in my pocket or a project bag attached to my belt loop by a carabiner. It's awesome. I am a born multi-tasker. ;)
Thank you for the explanation. I admire your ability to knit while walking! I’m super intrigued because, while I have loved learning to knit, I don’t want to end up becoming too sedentary in the process.
Hi there. Thanks so much for your lovely comment. I guess maybe it depends on the mohair. The ones I have used are not crazy expensive and they aren't itchy - to me anyway. I think some people are highly sensitive to mohair so maybe that is the case for you? One of the reasons I like to use it is that it creates a heathered effect in the fabric. It softens the colour and for me that is appealing to the eye. But if you find it uncomfortable to wear (yet like the effect), you might be able to try a suri alpaca blend (often more expensive than mohair, though).
Recent subscriber and enjoying your vids, thanks. From your recommendation, i dowloaded Skimmer Socks but there doesn't appear to be any cast on numbers except for the small (i'm guessing). Do you have any advice on this? Many thanks 😊
Hi Sue. I think with toe up socks, the cast on number is not that different for the different sizes. Just the final stitch count that you get to so as to factor in the width you need and the number of rows you do to take into account the length. Hope that helps. :)

❤ "flat out like a lizard drinking"
This Canadian just learned a new expression today! Thank you
It is one of my favorites. Maybe wish it wasnt as I feel this way a bit too often. ;)
I agree!!! Aren’t we lucky to make our own clothes without spending hours/ days looking for a garment that ends up not being everything we’d like! And the quality!!! So much better ! I thank my mother for teaching me both sewing and knitting when I was younger ..

Thanks.
I agree short rows of when to put them in type tutorial would be great
Thank you so much Lisa. Will definitely do a tutorial on short rows when i get some time. And I will add waist shaping to the list! :)
Both your Novice sweaters inspire me to knit one ! ❤❤❤
Awesome! Thank you! It is a lovely pattern. :)

Thank you so much Denise! :)

Knitting is definitely a journey of learning. I love that aspect of it. You dont have to be a master to start. :)

Have a wonderful time with your family this week. These days are so precious and you need to enjoy them. Marking will always be there.
Thank you so much! Yes, there will always be tests to write and marking to go along with them... ;)

Well done with your Short Rows for the Anker. I will definitely do a video though. :)
Leading Men Fiber Arts is my LYS in central Illinois, how fun to see their yarn being used in Australia!

I watched Dramatic Knits for years and it was so lovely to meet Steve in Nashville back in 2015. I love his yarns and he is a really fun person. :)
I remember that too. There was a lot in that book that made me question things that I had assumed or taken for granted that this was the way things were.

Thank you so much Mary. Hoping it all works out ok. It seems to be good. I'll have a better idea when i bind off the neckline. :)
Thanks Tash, have a wonderful week with your visitors. Blessings Gail.🙋🏼♀️
Thank you so much Gail. Hope you had a lovely weekend also. x

Thank you so much :)
Very interested in watching you knit fair isle!

Have fun getting matching tattoos!
Thank you so much Sarah. :)
Announcements go on the community tab of TH-cam to communicate missed, late content or news.
Thanks so much for sharing that with me. I never knew about or used that tab. If i dont record this week, i'll be sure to post there. :)

Ah - there you go! Good thing i changed the name of the segment. They are definitely "friends", not "foes". :)
