    We were just discussing what we should do this weekend, stay home and do yard work or head out on an adventure. After watching your video I guess the yard work will have to wait. We love early mornings as well but I get so cozy in the van. Thanks for the video.

    I was wondering when Gordon's baked potatoes would make their 1st appearance of the season. 👍😋
    I've been throwing sweet potatoes on the fire to shake things up. Worth a try. Happy trails.

      A great idea, though now you have made me (Gordon) hungry! We do enjoy almost anything that we cook in the fire! Safe travels! 🚐

    Great Video - last September we stayed at Otter Lake as part of our Kentucky Alleyne trip (thanks to your video that provided the inspiration). There was a pretty bad storm at the campsite and a tree fell in the site beside us. Thankfully it missed the RV but it did freak us out!!

      Just reading about that happening is scary. We are always a bit nervous if surrounded by large trees and it gets windy! Glad you enjoyed the video! Appreciate the comments and Safe travels!🚐

    As you know, I love your videos and have learned of amazing places to camp because of them. I watched this one with a weighted heart as Otter Lake is one of my favourite "lesser known" spots! We discovered it last year and had such an amazing time, lucky enough to be on one of the few sites overlooking the lake and a semi-private beach. We returned this year (last week of June 2020) and stayed for four nights in another lake-overlooking spot. Truly one of my favourite spots, so calm and serene, no cell service, and a beautiful lake. Lots of families and very friendly campers! We also picked up an inflatable packraft after seeing you both out so many times. Thanks for the idea! We love it and are buying a second one. Otter Lake can get a bit windy but when it is calm its truly wonderful. Glad you had a great trip. Always looking forward to learning about your next adventure!

      Appreciate the comment and those beach side spots looked very nice. Calm and serene is what we look for too. This year all of the parks seem very busy though, hearing this from many orhers as well. Still Otter was peaceful. Glad you are enjoying your packraft(s). Perhaps we may cross paths on the water one day!

    Great scenery and a lovely looking camping site, looks like you are having similar weather to us, it’s not been good this week but improving from today.I have a “Husqvana “ too- but mines a petrol driven lawnmower, made in Sweden 😆.

      Our weather has improved and we just had first real week of summer. Let’s hope for more. Your Husqvarna sadly would not fit in the van!

    Thanks for sharing. Did you leave your boat and trailer at the lake. What is the make of that trailer?

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed....as for the trailer we were just having some fun. Our boat is small and light-folds into a small pack...the trailer was just sitting there so popped the boat on it for a quick photo. It did look like it was a good fit however and so we could see it looking like we use it.

    We drove past this park on a day trip last summer. Thanks for showing us what it looks like, definitely a nice spot for a paddle. I am curious about your tires - which ones are they? The tread appears a lot tougher that what we will be getting on our van.

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a nice place for a paddle! When we purchased the van we changed out the tires for Yokohama Geolander GO15’s, recommended by a tire dealer (they gave us a reasonable trade in allowance since the original tires were new) and they have worked quite well for us. They are an all terrain, all weather tire (a legal snow tire snow as well with snowflake symbol). Not as good in snow as a dedicated snow tire of course, but in light snow worked well and as an all terrain a bit better on gravel etc. Would consider buying again, though might prefer a slightly more aggressive tread. These do work well on highway etc.

    • @petefrost1787
      @petefrost1787 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hikenrv wow, that was a quick reply. Much appreciated. I have been asking a few other van owners and this Yokohama tire has come up before. Good to know. Our van will come with street tires so we are contemplating what you did - trading in when they are new. Really enjoy your videos as we are in BC too.

      @@petefrost1787 we used Kal Tire largely as they were only a few km away from the rv dealership. Wishing you safe travels once your van arrives! Perhaps our paths may cross. 🚐

    Mosquitoes in BC look bigger than in Virginia, lol! Very nice editing job! Can you please share the brand and model of your kayak? Do you also have a one-sitter?

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It must be all of our rain! Thanks for the comment and. glad you enjoyed . We primarily use a packraft and ours is the Explorer 42 model from Alpacka packrafts. Very light, packs small and can carry 2 for short trips or 1 and gear for longer. Truly love it! Our other boat is an inflatable Sunny kayak by Innova, again works for 1 or 2. Heavier and much larger so we don’t often take with us.

    Just curious--was that a loon we heard when you were out on the lake?

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we believe so. Tried a few times to paddle closer where we could see it on camera, but the loon would simply move away. Such a wonderful sound on a calm morning.

    Do you always reserve your spot when you go?

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A year ago we would likely have said no, with the exception of a long weekend or a very busy park. Now however we try to as most parks are so busy! Still most parks have some first come first serve sites, but you want to be early at least in summer. BC recreation sites are all non reservation sites, but are also quite busy from what we have seen this year.
