    Nice vid. 1:35 the stump's cross section looked polished- cool. Glad RT helped you out on the generator. Thanks for the river shot;) Happy New Year!

    Merry Christmas from West Virginia. Always a pleasure watching your videos and I am hoping the new owners of Roadtrek will get everything fine tuned because I still prefer the layout of their vans to some of the others.

      Merry Christmas and thank you for the kind words! We had the issue fixed today....turns out it wasn’t the underhood generator, but rather the Balmar regulator (as we understand it it effectively controls the voltage and current )which has now been replaced. Sean at RT was helpful in resolving! Wishing you all the best for 2020! 🚐

    The orchestrated score makes it seem like a Disney movie. 😁 The white stuff is usually called powdery mildew. It’s a fungus.

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With one of us named Miki how can there not be a bit of Disney magic at work! And you are right, the fungi is also called “hair ice’ and it typically only exists during a humid period just below freezing on rotten wood. Melts once it warms up! Appreciate the info! Best of the season! 🚐

    A very pretty part of BC, stunning weather despite the cold, I expected to see a lot of snow on the ground at this time of the year- we’ve just got back from a visit to the Christmas Markets in Vienna and it was dry and a little cold but no snow. Merry Christmas to you both.😁👍🍷

      Snow is rare, except in the mountains here...where we typically have a lot. We have friends who were in Germany visiting Christmas markets...so lovely. Wishing you a Merry Christmas 🎄 and a Happy New Year 🎊! 🚐

    BC is so beautiful. I have to get out there some day. The landscape is so different from my home. (Coastal Massachusetts) I've had issues with my under hood generator as well. Check the Balmar Regulator. There are two fuses that come off of this. (On my Carado Banff it's located underneath plastic engine protector driver's side) When my under hood generator does not charge my battery system, it's usually one of these fuses have blown. Good luck!

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the advice and we actually used it! Turns out however the regulator had to be replaced, but we will keep on eye on the fuse issue for the future. And yes please do visit....and let us know if ever any questions if you do travel this way! All the best for the holidays! 🚐

    Best wishes for the Holidays. Did you get a recall notice for Promaster due to possible seizing and overheating of cooling fan? No remedy as yet.
    Thank you for another great video.

      Thank you and Happy Holidays as well! 🎄And yes, we received the recall notice ...with a note that they will follow up when they know how to fix. Good news is that very few problems have actually occurred (at least according to tidbits we can find on social media), so we doubt it will be an issue for us.🤞. Appreciate the comments!

      Thank you and Merry Christmas 🎄! Our fall had some challenges and we truly love our van so looking at other options didn’t move forward....but we will still look (best part is looking) at some options. One option is simply to lift the van...you can add 2 inches with a simple lift kit and tires could add a bit more. Traction has been less of an issue than clearance for us, but AWD or 4x4 would be nice. Appreciate the comments!

    Had my Roadtrek 3 years now. Had to have our volt start generator replaced 4 times. It has become so unpredictable that I bought a generator and carry it on a rack on the back of van. Biggest mistake I have ever made getting the volt start. Have wished a thousand times that I had just gotten a propane on board generator. With all issue with Roadtrek warranty, now everything is out of my pocket. I will never recommend Roadtrek! Love the van but very unhappy with all the issues and now they will not cover anything after the $1,500.

      So sorry to hear of your ongoing challenges! As it turns out this time our alternator was fine (and is actually covered now under a warranty by Nations who manufactures it), but we did have to replace the Balmar regulator. Sean at RT service was very helpful in the process, though they don’t cover any of the cost after the $1500 for the models made before the new owners. . Hoping that this resolves issues for quite a while! Wishing you all the best for the holidays!

    Great video! Thanks. It seems that there are issues with the lithium batteries and under hood generator. I’m now hesitant to buy a travato KL . Would you buy a travato K (onan generator) or go with the travato KL pure 3 system? I will be using the rv daily in the northeast and never plugging in. I’m really having a hard time deciding! Help! Buying soon! This is my house and I don’t want to be taking the lithium system back to the dealer for issues.

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and glad you enjoyed! Very hard to answer this question; certainly for us the lithium and charging system have been the biggest challenge over the last 2 years (one battery replaced under warranty, one Underhood generator and today it was the Balmar regulator (controls voltage and current)), but most often everything runs well. It is also as much about where you would have serviced as we think many dealers may not have much experience with this technology yet (some more than others), whereas the Oman and AGM batteries are well known and reliable, but of course the generator will be loud if you need it. We would be surprised if the K doesn’t charge when you drive as well, just not nearly as fast as having the underhood option. Not sure this is correct, but believe that is how it works with the Pleasure Way vans, which have lithium batteries, but still use an Onan generator. Tough call, and we would likely be challenged making the decision, though we do expect the technology has improved quite bit in the last 2 years . Not familiar with this system but don’t expect you would have many issues.

      Hi sccphilly,
      important to know that you need to keep lithiums above freezing to charge them. You can discharge usually down to -4 F and actually use them to run items in an RV. There are several methods to keep lithiums above freezing, with the easiest being housing them inside the RV and keep the RV warm. I use 2 LiFePO4 batteries and they charge fine using a standard alternator, 200W solar or via my generator. The alternator is the most efficient and quickest way to charge them. HTH. Buy brand name LiFePO4 batteries and you should be good to go. Cheers, Steve

    Lithium batteries aren't just battery...they have electronics in them that sometimes fight with the vehicle electronics. Check out this guy: th-cam.com/video/__5aCCZZqDU/w-d-xo.html hopefully he has some insight that pertains to your issues.
    We are in the planning portion of our Yellowknife, NWT trip this coming late summer/early fall and we will be doing that with an 8 year old WalMart deep cycle battery that still tests out great.. Just saying...
    And best of the season to you and yours, here's to a wonderful 2020, eh?
