- Sweden’s Niklas Edin, the six-time world men’s curling championship, made what is being called "the greatest shot in curling history" at the World Men's Curling Championship.

Sweden, who were trailing by two points to Norway in the 10th end, needed to score two points with their last shot to force an extra end. His attempt, made with huge amounts of spin on the stone, is an unusual sight at the top level and successfully levelled the scores by the finest of margins.

You know it's something special when your wife texts you at work to tell you about a curling shot she just witnessed (which mine did).
I called my mom to tell her to watch this shot. I said it was the most craziest shot I ever seen in my life. I never thought that was a possibility =D
The fact it was made against us in Norway is so typical Sweden......
Vi elsker er fortsatt, men lag Edin är lite speciella, det måste tom ni erkänna. Klem
I watched this live and thought it was a joke shot at first. Then everyone in the room was yelling at the television when we realized what was about to happen. Edin is a legend!
That was the most amazing shot I've ever seen. And I'm not sure why.
Love how authentically delighted Sander is. You speak for all of us; buddy!
I bet you’ll see more of this high tech curling in the future,I curled on Ed Werenich’s rink in high school and shot making like this is something you just dreamt about.
Curling; one of the sports of all time
hahahahahaha i love that
How can you call this sport?😂
@@dverschoor84 because its peoples skills at hand eye co-ordination competing against one another? i know youre prob joking tho ..
Super Edin! Greetings from Brazil!
This is why he is the best curling skip in the business
Niklas Edin... du är bäst!
Spinin' Edin! Wow what a shot indeed!
Unbelievable!
Proud to be a swede🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪❣️❣️❣️
I have no idea what happened, but huh, cool I guess.
Sliding into her DMs like ... 0:01
It's first time I see something like that. Literally. Unbelievable
Question- Is it still the greatest shot if he only scores 1? I can't decide.
They got 2 points
if the shooter rolls too far we'd still be talking about this but i wouldn't call it the greatest shot of all time. of course he has to go for 2 but in a situation where he only needed 1, he'd just go for the easy draw. the pressure of NEEDING 2 adds a lot to this shot
@@felicianilsson9069 We know. The question wasn't how many did he score?
I’d say it would be in the top 5 shots if he rolled too far and scored the single. But scoring the deuce definitely makes it the best shot I’ve ever seen.
Only thing that I can think would have been an even more dramatic shot would be if it was in the 10th in the gold medal game and he was down by one with the hammer. Win or lose on that shot….
He shot it with calculated precision, yet with childlike creative freedom. I’ll admit I thought it was a circus shot when he was about to release, but instead it was sheer brilliance !!!!
why is it called curling when it goes straight?
If it went straight he wouldn’t have made that shot.
@@boreopithecus did it curl though or ricochet?
Did it or not ?? If u find out post it
Wikipedia says 'Players induce a curved path, described as curl, by causing the stone to slowly rotate as it slides.'
And on second viewing it does curve so I need to open my eyes before posting. Anyway, a fascinating game originating in Scotland, also known for its whiskey, so maybe after a couple of drams it really really curls. Lang may yer lum reek.
I wish i knew what happened here haha
The yellow team got 2 points for their stones being closer to the middle
also, they had to get 2 points, being two point down. Thats why he spun it, because without the spin, 1 point would have been the maximum possible
the only option was to spin the stone in order for the red (which was in best position) to move backwards
jävlar, grattis Sverige.
Jude carlingham*
Was it merely the greatest shot because it twisted around its own axis?
jude bellinghham classic
i dont understand
Riveting.
Lol
I don’t understand
I've seen this 10 times this week. Same as the snowboarder falling into a tree well. Can we all just post other feeds and make money? Thanks youtube
This is a terrific shot, one of the best of all time. But circa 1987, Patrick Ryan from Manitoba, Canada shot a triple-raise takeout to win the Brier (national championships). There isn't much footage online, but I don't think this shot beats it.
This was an impossible shot
HAHA little Norway Will never beat us at anything🤦🏼😂❤️🇸🇪
Inte ens i längdåkning längre sedan dophaug la av😂😂😂😂
@@skiti934 😂🤦🏼
Förutom längdskidåkning, vilket är allt som betyder något.
Men playing with stones.
quite the achievment
Expensive stones.
I don't know about the best shots ever. But: when I was 15 years old (or so) and living in a town of about 33,000 people, a guy from my home town by the name of Bud Somerville won the World Curling Championship. Seems pretty cool for a guy from a town of 33,000 people.
Niklas Edin is from Örnsköldsvik which has a population of 33k as well.
@@eriknelson6429 Well, then: Well done by him!
@@dougamundson6836 well done by both
@@eriknelson6429 I HAVE to agree. Thanks.
Well a fine shot, but best in history? Gimme a break. Consider Al Hackner's double takeout in the 10th to win the 1985 Labatts Brier.
E E - Epic Edin
It's a nice shot; but seriously, I have seen shots just as nice over the years.
The announcer must be quite young.
Russ Howard said the same thing
Dude, no. This shot is revolutionary. Nothing tops it.
@@michelpoulin4095 Commentator Russ Howard, former world champion and 2006 Olympic Gold Medalist stated on the live TSN broadcast that this was the greatest shot he had ever seen -- not that it was just a nice shot. In his World Championship dominance over the past 10 years, Edin has shown himself to be the G.O.A.T., especially after coming back from last year's nagging injury to beat Gushue in last week's World Championship match.
Ummm....no. The extra spin made it very dramatic, but the shot was not complicated, or risky, or game winning.
Next.
Ummm...no. It's extremely complicated, because a stone with that much spin behaves completely differently from a normally thrown stone. It's like a pitcher trying to control a knuckle ball when the baseball has been thoroughly greased.
@@joepod Explaining curling to a curler....interesting.
If it's so easy, have you ever tried it and succeeded? No, didn't think so. Cheap shot from the cheap seats.
@@grantranalli6080 How much did you pay for yours?
Do you actually curl? If so, you'd know this was a difficult shot. It took me a dozen tried to achieve the split Rachel Holman threw. It might take many more to accomplish Edin's shot. Try his shot and let me know how you make out. I'll wait.
Not so special. Just a trick shot that came off.
This "sport" ranks up there with ribbon twirling gymnastics.
They couldn’t be more different.
Still beats american football at least.
@@thehoogard At least the risk of severe brain trauma is considerably smaller.
@@thehoogardthe best athletes in the world play American football, this is barely even a sport imo lol you cannot compare the two
@@trinidad510 You meant 'best athletes in the US play American football'. I'm not surprised an (presumably) american confuses the two though.
