I played Junior curling in Northern Ontario decades ago. We made it to the finals to represent at the Nationals. There is more to this game than meets the eye. The ice conditions dictate how much "broom" you have to give. That means where you place the broom for the shooters to aim at. It also depends on how fast you are throwing the rock. The ice conditions often change as the game progresses as well. I played at this one club where frost would force the people playing the first draw of the evening to throw "peel" weight in order to get the rocks into the house!! After about 2-3 ends the temperature would rise due to the people on the ice and it would be normal conditions the rest of the night. yeah these guys make shots that the average curler would have to attempt several times to even get close to these results.
What are you talking about?!? It’s a fantastic spectator sport!! And trust me, us die hard curling fans know exactly how talented our boys and girls are!! 😊👍🏻
i think if more people could try playing it, more would understand what is actually done there, right? and maybe if we compare it to beginners, we may get some clues? :)
Ehh I’d go easy on the physical. I’m not saying these players aren’t in great shape, but this in no way compares to pole vaulting, long jumping, shot put ect…. Ive seen some chunky curlers, never seen a chunky 400m
There's a reason curling is one of my favourite sports. These shots are perfect examples of that. This is a game entirely of skill, one that requires focus and accuracy beyond what you see in almost any other sport.
The video saved my life. I was ONE more sleepless night of insomnia away from chemical burn kisses and making soap with my pal Tyler in his house in the industrial section of town.
What an amazing video! I love watching curling during winter Olympics and that was just so much fun to watch. Thanks for sharing these awesome moments.
The most underated sport of all time. I've tried it. It's freaking hard. I'm better at golf and no one disrespects golf. Add in boccii and bowls if you want. Curling is harder. Love it.
Yeah true a lit people who have never tried it will say it's easy and very simple and will often say it's barely a sport but that just not true I requires a lot of skill and is quite difficult to understand
Yeah... exactly. It's hard to keep balance. Really hard. Slipping and sliding around. The rock sorta feels heavier than you and it's frustrating if you feel you given it too much weight.
Golf isn’t a sport. There is no direct contact with an opponent. Curling is a sport because there is direct contact. The stones are an extension of the player and can be hit by the other player. In golf this doesn’t count and the ball gets dropped.
I just had a clinic with my coworkers this afternoon and it's so incredibly fun to do. Just the satisfaction of finally getting a Rock in the circle is worth all the while. I can only imagine how satisfying it is to play one of these amazing shots. Mesmerizing
Definitely inspiring shots. What is missing, though, is a note telling us whether the shot helps the team earn a win. Great shots by themselves are interesting, but great shots that lead to a win are definitely more enjoyable.
Not many people on the Internet realize how much skill this game requires. Everyone thinks the sweepers are doing all the work, mostly because they get all the screen time. In truth, the sweepers make the stone go a little faster and have some influence on the stone's path, maybe 15% of the game. However, the person throwing the stone has to line it up just right, or no sweeper can make a remotely passable (much less actually good) shot out of it. Every time I play, the only time a stone doesn't do what its supposed to is because of a bad throw. It takes skill to throw a good shot. Then there's the skip (the person holding the broom at the far side), who has to precisely tell the thrower exactly where to aim, and how hard to throw the stone. He/she also has to know when exactly the sweepers have to sweep, and he/she has to effectively communicate this to the sweepers. These precision shots in this video are a result of careful planning and very precise execution, not some stroke of luck. Players who have years invested in this sport often can't do this well. I see why some uninformed people might think that it's not hard to play curling, but trying to throw just once WILL humble you, I would put money on it.
I just moved to Northern Minnesota and was invited to be on the company Curling Team. I absolutely love it. I am terrible, but I throw lead and have a former Olympic Coach as my skip, so I think we should be ok.
Just started an intro course - I'm throwing too hard; need WAY more practice; tough not to get discouraged and tougher to improve without being able to practice.
Yesterday I played this game for the first time in my life. I love it. Spent five hours on the ice. The biggest issue is the applied force, it is very difficult to feel distance
My dad was a curler for a while. He told me that proper etiquette for congratulating the opposing team after making shots like these is to say "Nice shot, asshole."
Casi me dio un ataque al corazon de lo arriesgado y emocionante que es el curling ademas de la excelente condicion fisica que deben tener los participantes
I dont know abything about the game but i get the basic, but what are the rules with the kicking? Like once an opponents stone gets pushed off, are they just allowed to kick it out of the way? I saw a few where they did
Team only scores at end of round. Only the team with their stone nearest to the center gets score. They also count each matching stone that is closest for more points as long as the opposing color isn't between them. That's why you'll see them knocking the opponents stone away even if they are already on the bull.
@@danc1197 That makes a clearer picture for me, thank you! Nowww, if I can only remember that for the next Olympic curling session 3 years from now LOL.
I know nothing of curling I’ve never seen it in person or tried it before but out of curiosity I’ve been searching for clips to try and see if the sweeping actually does anything and after watching this whole thing I still can’t really tell
Curling ice is finely pebbled rather than flat, which is part of what allows stones to curl. Sweeping very slightly melts the surface of the ice, which causes the stones to run farther and straighter.
9:29 so question about the rules here, the red stone went of the circle and hit the wall, but it seemed to have enough momentum to return to the circle. Why is he allowed to kick away before it returns to the circle, seems illegal to me.
What really made so many of these shots possible was precision in communication between teammates like " *AAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!* "
Underrated comment
No man ever made women scream with joy like a well guided and placed rock.
Kkkkkkk
4:04 i'm sorry what? that was literally perfect
Yeah, while the rest were good, that was one where the stone only touched the other colors while leaving theirs intact, no idea why is it so low.
I was about to say . . . "That was not possible . . ." I like your comment better.
Yes very satisfying lol
How do you even call for that? Amazing!
My jaw dropped lol. Amazing

I first saw curling in the Winter Olympics and I have been fascinated with it ever since ...it is so amazing and awesome!!!! I love it!!
I'm not a big curling fan but FINALLY a video that isn't composed of at least 80% football and baseball...there may actually be hope for this channel.
I know it's not an amazing spectator sport. However, the skill of these players is incredibly underrated.

50 Great CANADIAN curling shots. Even at that, where was Pat Ryan's raised triple in the world final Vs Norway? Easily top 5 on any list.
I wish that curling were available in the portion of the US where I live.
Love it
Can we see a sequel with non-Canadians? :)
There is non-canadians in this tho..? Canada are good at curling that's why there is so many incredible shots by Canadian players
No.
I love this game for several reasons one of which is that politeness is key
This probably one of the most enjoyable things to me at this point.

Super nice collection! Thanks!

Yeah, the thumbnail is really misleading. They missed out some great shots from players who are from other countries.
Yeah, I would have expected the USA 5-ender to win Olympic gold in 2018 otherwise
The uploader was too busy making useless copyright disclaimer waffle to mention that.

I have an idea, a$$whipe. Tell a Major League pitcher he has to throw a ball that lands ON home plate. See if he can do it.
i immediately had to go to #1 because there is only one shot imo that it could be. i was wrong but i was pleasantly surprised. great video
What amazes me the most is the footwork coordination of the people doing the sweeping and how they don't hit anything with the broom they use
