Michigan fan here. The last two years there were two stand out explosive games. Ohio in 2022 and Wash 2023/4. Both games had a single common denominator. Donovan Edwards. That guy returns. Look out.

I'd add 2022 Penn State. 400+ yards rushing and a long TD by Donovan. He ended up with 2 scores that day I think.

Problem is when people say explosive for some reason they think of a potent passing attack exclusively... You can be a run first team and still be explosive... "They blow you off the line of scrimmage..." That sounds explosive within itself... If you get 400-500 yard of offense regardless wether it's more passing yards vs rushing yards and vice versa, that's explosive

  • @jivepatrol6833

Anthony Carter was an explosive WR and for me he's the standard at Michigan. Greg McMurtry, Braylon Edwards, Derick Alexander, Desmond Howard and Amani Toomer were awesome too. I dont think we have any WRs of this caliber. The Don on the other hand is explosive when the OL opens up holes. We'll see early on against Texas. Just pound the rock and mix in some passes and burn clock. Wear out the other team and then big plays come in 3rd and 4th quarter.

I agree with your comparison between Alex Orji and Jalen Milroe, and Alex Orji could have some growing pains, but the difference between Michigan and last years Alabama team is, Michigan has other options! Davis Warren showed what he can do in the spring, and some argue he should be the front runner. Kirk Campbell said, Warren is a better pure passer than JJ McCarthy. I also would not count out Jack Tuttle. He can throw and is very quick on his feet. Michigan also has Jadyn Davis! So, while there's questions regarding who will be Michigan's starting QB, I would argue Michigan has better options than Alabama had last year, because the backup to Milroe last year was a lacrosse player! lol

As far as Urban Meyer’s comment, he is just trying to motivate the team. They recruit well but don’t develop the recruits well. And with the portal now it evens things out. The bottom line is that Ryan Day is soft! The Buckeyes will under perform and lose to Michigan again! Maybe to Oregon on the road too.

Here's some facts about Michigan's offense that tell me they'll be good:
    1. The O-line is projected to start a fifth year senior, three fourth year seniors, and a junior. Most of them have a few years of experience together. Two of them have started games at Michigan in the past and another is a portal addition who was a starter and a captain for Northwestern last season. They also have two guys projected as backups who could start. This will be a very solid unit once again.
    2. The running back room is explosive and deep. Donovan Edwards is on some Heisman Watch lists, Kalel Mullings has experience, and there are four or five guys competing for the third spot.
    3. They have one of the best "big-bodied" receivers returning in Colston Loveland, who often made plays from a split wide position last year. They also return Tyler Morris at WR. Despite not being a starter last year, Michigan would not have won the Rose Bowl if he hadn't outrun the entire Bama defense for a TD in the first half. Factor in Semaj Morgan, Frederick Moore, Amorion Walker, and the expected rise of Marlin Klein and the potential passing targets look exciting to me. The Don should get his share of catches once again too!
    4. If Alex Orji, Jack Tuttle, or Davis Warren entered the spring portal they would've been highly coveted by some other programs out there. There is a nice mixture of experience, as Tuttle has started multiple games in the Big TEn and Orji has gotten PT the last two years, and raw talent. They should be well coached and prepared and it's not like they'll be asked to do too much other than hand the ball off. Worst case scenario is that freshman 4-star Jadyn Davis has to take snaps but he looked good enough in the spring game to not scare me too much if that's the case.

We all know how explosive Donovan Edwards is. We got a sneak peek at an explosive passing game in the spring game with Davis Warren throwing for three 35+ yard passes( 2 of which were touchdowns) in his 9 passing attempts.
Davis Warren and Donovan Edwards as a tandem will mirror Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk's greatest show on earth in Ann Arbor this year.

Ohio State is ALWAYS “Talented.” That has never been in question!
The issues for them are coaching, complimentary football, and culture.
Coaching: Ryan Day has been allergic to power football, especially line play, and he has also been notoriously risk averse, especially against Michigan. Will that change this year? We’re told Chip Kelly will be calling plays. Ok. Why should we think that’s an upgrade? That needs to be explained.
Complimentary football: The Buckeye defense has improved. But the fact is because they haven’t had a consistent power run game, and haven’t committed to it (see Ryan Day’s allergies above), the defense, which is not a slow grinding death like Michigan’s, but rather a quick-strike-blitzkrieg-get off the field defense, will likely spend too much time on the field against teams that can bully them (Michigan, Oregon, et al.). They’ll tire and putter out down the stretch (Missouri and Michigan both wore them down) Problem.
Culture: Ohio State recruits a lot of guys from outside Ohio who don’t end up caring much for the program, and instead see it as a finishing school for their NFL careers. This didn’t change in the offseason in the sense that much of this “all world” roster is “bribe and bling,” i.e., guys paid a lot likely for one year. Yeah, some guys came back, but lots of guys left too. We’ll see how that turns out. A few things remain sure, however: the O-line is still unproven, the WR room is now unproven, the QB room is unproven, and we have no reason to believe anyone was developed in the off season.
      We shall see.

Michigan still has Edwards and a loaded RB room. They reload at the offensive line, not rebuild. While they did lose the best QB they've ever had last year, they have an eclectic QB room that if utilized correctly, can throw in enough looks and wrinkles to keep opposing defenses on their toes and honest. Defensively they should be a top 5 to 10 defense. Michigan isn't taking a step back this year guys. Sorry to break it to you all. It’s not going to be last year's Michigan, that's for sure. But this team 145 will be able to compete with anybody. I don't know if they are going to win it all this year or not, but they will compete for the BIG 10+ title, and give everyone they play some serious competition. So, maybe they will take a sideways step, but not a step back.

@@LockedOnBIG10 no, I heard analysts stating all season that they were going to lose to ohio state, I heard they’d get to the playoffs again and choke. Last year was finally a year Michigan was predicted by some to win the Big 10. But that was it. I heard all last year that Harbaugh couldn’t win the big one. I didn’t hear 1 analyst give Michigan their props and predict them to win the National Title besides Desmond Howard. I heard plenty of ohio state or Georgia. Even Oregon. Michigans schedule was too soft so they’d lose to penn state on the road because they hadn’t been challenged up until then, then I heard they’d lose to ohio state. Then it was Alabama that was going to beat them in the Rose Bowl even though Michigan was favored. Then it was “Michigan’s defense has never seen an offense like Washington” and that Penix & their 3 wideouts were going to take it to them. That was a joke. They’re disrespected all the time as if it was a fluke they got to where they were but that next challenge was going to be the one. Media crapped on them with this “sign stealing” bullsh*t, that from what I hear, the report that is coming out is going to have Michigan fans laughing at this nonsense. That little to no punishment is coming and it’s “much ado about nothing.” Harbaugh’s phone and computer was searched, the NCAA President came out and said Michigan won fair and square yet still I hear the riff raff out there talking about an asterisk, still bringing up this nonsense like that’s the reason Michigan won. Again everyone bashing Michigan before there was even a conclusion. The Big 10 even punished them before their was a conclusion, just because the crybaby coaches pressured spineless 🤡 Tony Petitti into punishing them so he did. They get very little respect coming into this season. Yes they lost a lot but I don’t hear people doubt Georgia when they lose a chunk of their team or same with ohio state. They just “reload” but Michigan is a question mark. If anyone proved winning as a team can beat just signing every 5 star you can it’s Michigan. Same culture, same style, plus a bunch of players who got playing time last season stepping up this year. They won the National Championship and still don’t get the benefit of the doubt that they can repeat or even win the Big 10. Pretty much everything I have read has them finishing 4th. 🤷 so yeah, they get disrespected all the time. You’re a Big 10 guy sure but it doesn’t stand out to you as much as it does when you’re a fan of the team and that’s the stuff you read and hear from the media.
