I absolutely second this. I can already smell another "not a AAA garbage" absolute win of a game and CAN'T wait to play it! Mom once told me that the best food is the one made with passion and/or love. My dad told me that games are the same. And you my man have it all!

I like the idea of docking to nav beacons to activate them. Maybe you could unlock a "remote access/hack" module so the process is a bit quicker or doesn't require docking in the late game. Along those lines, maybe the module could work to counter weapons or PDWs (hack *some* incoming missiles, briefly deactivate or distract PDWs). Chaff or decoys would also be interesting... Can't wait to see more!

It would be really cool to have an upgradeable fire control system for the ships. Do you want to be able to control more missiles at once? Will you sacrifice accuracy for volley size? I think some cool logic around sacrificing a pod for more fire control to improve missile logic would be sick. Especially if you guys include some sort of countermeasures or counter-countermeasures. Missile tech can get so in depth.

Great progress and I love that your posting so many devlogs. Heres some feedback: I know constant speed missles make it more predictable for pdcs, but then it makes it very easy to escape from. Just flying away would render them more or less harmless, the missle should follow the same rules as the ship and should be able to accelerate and decelerate to catch up to the target. Would be cool if there was custom missle pathing for outplays for players wanting more depth.

All this asteroid talk reminded me of a fun gamedev fact from Halo 3. IIRC every rock in the mission The Covenant is one rock, scaled up or down and rotated around, to save memory.
BTW the game looks great and these updates have been really fun and insightful. I just finished watching the Expanse, so I'll be following you closely haha

Honestly watching the ship maneuver to pick up cargo made me really want to play the game. I think the nav beacons need the same sort of feel, maybe the nav beacon's grav field needs to be calibrated when you first find it? There could be some interesting ways to implement that into the gameplay loop
This is starting to feel like a hard sci-fi version of Star Sector. I am really looking forward to how it further develops!

It's interesting seeing how you're currently in the stage of creating the missiles' ideal pathing in laboratory conditions, where all of them change vector in lockstep with the player ship's movement. They look like a synchronized swim team performance. :D But it shows how the homing pathing is calculated.
I'm assuming you'll work in minor path randomization and smoothing/curving later so that the swarms will look more jumbly as they home in. Instead of all repeating "one of us" in unison currently. XD
For the nav beacon you could add a mini game like fixing a circuit board ect

This has just turned into mainly a start citizen channel, peace. Never ending beta game.
So a couple of suggestions:
First, I love the PD guns, just think the projectiles should be more tracer-like than individual point particles.
Forget my second point, I see you've already done that.

Subscribing. This looks like a type of space game I would want to play. Does not have the high learning curve of Space Engineers, and a very good level of gfx quality to give you that immersion you are looking for.

Let it be known the screenshots of that base were wear made on almost no sleep and suck I will build a better cooler base soon!
also the new missiles look cool also I may take a run at the volumetrics the fact the hole game is basically on a flat plane may mean a 2D volumetric grid with some basic raymarching may work way better then a full 3D grid and faster

@@Scraggsly I agree. Different game, OP was cheap, many likes on it even more sad. But LevelCap would say as much himself, admiring the ambition and achievements of CIG every time he comments on the project.
For me, his own little game project gives him an immense credibility when commenting on SC, compared to dildos whose only "expertise" is that they played shitload of games. Or even modding some of them, because that also mostly only scratches the surface.

Having to dock to download data from a beacon sounds rather dumb to me. It's a beacon. It's got a transmission system built in. You should be able to download it. Maybe you need to get close enough, but dock? Makes no sense.
