I was going to add to my other comment, but let me throw this out here. I was a Park Ranger for 6 yrs. We worked very remote areas. Many times the reason you may encounter some guy out in a remote area is because they are making, processing or growing something nearby and they dont want you to discover their secret. Most of the time they dont want to have a confrontation (that may bring authorities), they just want you to move along to somewhere else. I have seen cameras and signaling devices guarding areas where they are doing their activities.
I used tell visitors to just stay alert and if something looks or feels "iffy", pack it up and go.
Also, there is never a time when a person by themselves in any remote area should not have "protection" on their person. And dont feel bad about doing so. The first line of defense is staying alert, avoiding and leaving if anything comes up. That will handle 99% of any issues.
    Stay safe.
Edited to add: If someone does approach you out in the wilds and you cannot leave before he gets to you, do NOT let them close the distance on you. Most victims mindset during an encounter like this is "this cant be happening". Do NOT fall into that pattern thinking. It IS happening and you are going to have to deal with it.
Stand up, hold your non-dominant arm out towards them with your palm facing them and yell, "STOP! DO NOT APPROACH ME! Anything you need to say you can say from over there."
If they continue to approach you should repeat your warning as you access your protection in your dominant hand pointed downward.
When he see's that and continues to close the distance gap he should be considered a hostile threat that is forcing you to take action.
There is nothing he has to say that cant be said from 50+ feet away or more.

I watched a law enforcement training video that taught the very real danger of edged weapons. While most of us assume that someone who is 20 feet away from us isn't an eminent threat, the video proved that an experienced law enforcement officer could NOT draw a weapon and shoot before the person could attack them with a knife from that distance. Don't be fooled by distance. Also, keep in mind that a Taser is a distance weapon that can be used to incapacitate someone from a distance, as can tear gas or pepper spray. Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

I am a older man and I travel and camp in places like that. That would make me leave the campsite too. 2 things I would think would help setup a second chair when you camp. As far as your stalker I would learn how to check your rig for trackers, maybe have someone with knowledge check it once and a while and train you. As I watch this I thought about you having your new rig in Tecopa for the fundraiser. That could have been a place a stalker could of tagged your Jeep. Be safe, leaving was the right thing to do. And do regular practice with it. Not only target but defensive training, keeping/creating distance, kicking etc. Practice out alone with a tree & an empty gun even. If you have an automatic know how to clear it fast. I prefer revolver because it's so dependable. Don't hide it under so many clothes that you can't reach it fast. Or IMO worse if in a purse. Depending on state & laws, you can conceal or open. Consider taking the course to get ccw certified. Not good in all states but most.

There is a great book called “The Gift of Fear”. It’s a study of real crimes and interviews with surviving victims and a common element in many is that the victim subsequently realized there had been signs of something “not right” before the attack and they ignored them. All humans and animals have a survival instinct to detect things out of sorts and one should not ignore them.

Ive been a lone female nomad for 13 years. Prior to full time nomadic life I had already traveled the US extensively, alone. NEVER have i had any trouble because of one thing....common sense.
Traveling alone, especially as woman, do not EVER go ANYWHERE where there is not anyone else camping, a house or business within shouting distance.
Hang out on a clothes line a few large mens shirts, have a second chair sitting out and a pair of mens boots by the door. Avoid letting others see you are alone and dont even tell your camping neighbors you are alone if possible.
Ive have made this comment many times to other nomads. Its not other travels you need to worry about to much, its the locals. They know the roads, the BACK roads, where people hike and camp, where the cops are and where to bury a body.
Be smart, don't take chances, predators are everywhere.

Have a smaller carry weapon on your body .. you might get approached while away from or at least out of the jeep ... A face covered out in the middle of nowhere sets off alarms .. if approached don't even engage with talk of any kind .... .. Was that the only way in ?? he might have known it and moved out to wait somewhere along the road ..... Certainly hate to see you have to deal with something like this .... could you get plate number ?? And more zoomed camera shot ?? .. Hard to relax while always having to be on guard ...
... on a more positive side .. if it wasn't for the face mask ,, he could have been planning on that camp site ,, but actions prevailed... as you did leave the site with your firearm on the seat .. Do Not stop for Questions of any kind ....

If you have a known stalker, have you notified the police, yet? That is serious and dangerous. Someone mentioned getting your vehicle checked for a tracking device, I'd get your phone checked, also. Someone wearing a mask sitting and staring out in a remote site where you are camping is not a coincidence.
If you don't have trail cameras, I 'd get a few and put them up so a license plate or someone's identity can be proof to give the police. You must take this seriously and take precautions to be safe first. Personally, I'd be wearing my Glockster in full view.

I am so relieved that I live in a pretty safe country for the most part - snakes and crocs aside! I’ve travelled the US solo and slept in the back seat of my vehicle more than once, but there’s something about travelling remotely in your country that sets my nerves on edge. I never could put my finger on it, but it’s there, it’s everywhere, it exists. I too experienced something creepy on a later trip when I was travelling with my young daughter. We pulled into a deserted spot to set up camp for the night, and had just rolled out our cooking gear when I noticed a black truck entering the site. Like yourself, he sat there and watched us before starting to edge his truck towards us. Acting on pure instinct, I threw everything into the back of the vehicle and we hit the road as fast as our vehicle allowed on the dirt. INSTINCT kicked in. NEVER, EVER ignore it. Stay safe and be aware, and as others have suggested here, keep your weapon on your person at all times. 🙏👀

Maybe because I'm 65 or because I raised 5 boys totally alone which involved a ton of camping and rockhounding and being out in the middle of nowhere all the time doing the things we liked doing, but i refuse to be treated like a prey animal by a holes like that creepy jerk. I (and you) have as much right to be out in the wilderness alone as anyone else. I feel safe around nature and every animal, but not humans. I got myself a firearm and learned how to really use it so I'm comfortable and I don't pose a danger to anyone else. But nobody should mess with me or try to threaten me or whoever I might be with, be it human or animal. That's just wrong and is denying your right as a human being to enjoy the world around you. Our gut instinct is there to warn us & it’s better to be safe than sorry. I camp at actual state park campgrounds & such (we have no blm land in my state) & if I’m camping alone & a lone dude pulls up & I get the eeby geebies I hightail it out. It truly does suck sometimes being a single female tryina live the life you desire in the USA. I am glad you posted this. I wish more people would post these so that people are truly aware of how that lifestyle is. It gets romanticized entirely too much on the socials imho.

There are other similar videos on TH-cam, but statistically this type of behavior is rare. You're in far more dangerous territory in any given city, in any country, than out on public land. That doesn't mean that sociopaths and psychopaths don't exist, and once they have their chosen hunting ground, that's probably where they will remain. Remaining aware of your surroundings and making plans for every eventuality (disaster planning, essentially) are good ways to help you remain safe. The element of surprise raises the odds-and in situations like this, women need to stack the odds in their favor as much as possible. Adding a short, 20 ga shotgun loaded with #1 buckshot to the camping repertoire would help a lot when the adrenaline is flooding thru the body, especially after dark.
The rest of amexna's comment I agree with.

Your situational awareness keeps you safe. Deterrence will also keep you safe. When setting up camp, you could put out 2 or 3 chairs to make it seem like your not alone. Open carry like others suggest is an option too. I'm guessing he was looking around for other people that may be with you. If you had packed up your chair before you got back in the Jeep, he prob assumed you were leaving and he had lost his opportunity. Many crimes are born out of opportunity. Again, good situational awareness!

Folding chairs don't take up much space. That is a good idea, putting out an extra chair or two. I will do that when I try camping next year. When I first moved into a small cottage with no back door, alone in a part of my town that was a weird mix of gentrification and homeless, I quickly notice that homeless people were okay with hanging out around the cottages now and then, so I said a pair of men's used work boots next to the front door mat as if someone had come home and taken them off and left them out there. I didn't have any trouble with people sleeping on my little porch after that.

Hello from Long Beach, ca. This my 1st time watching one of your videos. I would love to travel and camp, but am too afraid for this very reason. A lot of men are getting harassed these days as well. I'm 56, and love nothing more than Rock hound and hiking, and I have no problem defending myself, but we shouldn't have to! A friend got perimeter alarms for her camp, and always hides a trail cam up high in a tree just in case. Check to make sure you don't have a tracking device on your jeep. Enjoy, but stay safe. P.S. be yourself, and speak your mind...don't worry about what your readers think...if their loyal, they'll appreciate your honesty.

You may need a small set of good quality binoculars to see them clearly. We are all running into sketchy B-Cluster Narcissists.

Have you had your Jeep put up on a lift and searched for a tracker device? How else would he find you? Or, perhaps he's tracking your phone. Can you check your phone for tracking? You're smart; stay safe.

I’m glad you were aware of your surroundings, I am 75 next week, I live in Australia, and 12 years ago, my husband passed away, I put my trekking gear in my tiny car and set off, I wouldn’t do it now, my age firstly, but times have changed my dear girl. I am sorry you had that experience, he may have tried to intimidate you to move on, so he could move in. All the best, and I am happy envious of you and your journey. Such an inspiring and mystical area and he took all the fun away! I'm also an outside girl and sometimes I seek some solitude as well, some people scratch their heads, but we all have different things, so don't let this stop you being you. This kind of incident makes me want to carry more serious protection, but it's not "I try" stopping me either:) I've learned to double up on tents and lighting, extra chairs and wasp spray. I kinda moved on to behind solid walls. Good ideal is a large pair of mens boots outside any door. I think a good invention, is a movable passenger seat mannequin of some sort. You did all the right things and you're doing great work Thank You

There is absolutely no reason for a man driving around alone in a pickup truck, on a sunny and dry day with windows down, in a big ol', unpopulated and remote area, other than a nefarious one! This guy is trouble and he doesn't want to be easily identifiable. There is no reasoning this away. He's a creeper. By the way, I love that you chose the kind of vehicle that, if someone blocks your path out, you can simply make a new one. He was trying to get a good look at you without you being able to get a good look at him even if you had binoculars, thus the mask.

Been on the road 9 years solo and have no desire to camp Utah solo. There's just something about the area that my intuition says, stay away. So I heed it. In 9 years, I've only had two instances on the road where I felt I needed to move along. I rely on my spiritual protectors to keep me safe. I call them in the minute I set up camp and sleep well every night. Good on you for following your gut. Leave the bad energy of that experience behind in the dust. Don't carry it with you.

    • @JCee67
      @JCee67 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

That's very interesting because I have had the same feelings about Utah too, and have for several decades now. It's also area with many dogman reports. I realize there's many people who choose to deny their existence, while many more have no awareness about them. At any rate, that whole area has an intensely unsetteling energy about it

Smart to move. I do not think you have bad luck, I just think there are more crazies out there. When you are walking around I would carry open, most times that will be a huge deterrent because they will usually look for an easy target. You also might want to get another chair and put them both out. Also, get a pair of old hiking boots from one of your guy friends and put those out as well.

I'm glad you have protection. I recently watch another female like yourself who has a channel like yourself,i think she also has a show on the Travel Channel. She had come bk to her land & this guy comes walking up saying "oh i've been looking for you". She said her property wasn't that easy to get to. She also said another guy came all the way to South Africa to propose to her where she was w/the Travel Channel. She was upset & shakin jus like you. The only difference is she didn't have any protection. The world is full of ppl like that. All you can do is protect yourself, mayb take some jujitsu & have a plan, keep your head on a swivel. 2 diff males campers 2 different places got killed this year camping. 1 was Montana & the other was the Appalachian Trail. Be careful out there.

If she did do that, she would be setting herself up for a lawsuit. First, let's say she see's him and then takes a video of him, saying something like, 'there he is again.' No matter what, he could sue her for defamation of character or liable and slander. In both cases, if he could prove that he was targeted with out proof, that's grounds for a law suit. Even worse, one of her subs engages with him and he is injured or worse, then she too could be arrested for conspiracy and worse. The only way she could show him is without saying a word, she could pan over the horizon... and capture his image. I forgot to add, getting him to court may be the only way to her in the same room. Or he could become enraged.

    • @jackib8589
      @jackib8589 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

@SparkyTuttle I agree about the defamation ONLY if it's not him. She needs to get one of those dashcams that records 24/7 from the front and back and then she can also add someone she trusts, like her aunt to that dashcam so that way her aunt can bring it as well. I've been stalked twice in my life, it's Not fun and I take it seriously, I've been thrown through a wall twice leaving me with life long neck issues. She needs to step up her security if she wants to enjoy her travels. I'm not one who sugar costs I'm telling as it is. Lots of nomads go missing and unalived. I think her fans would agree with my opinion. She needs to find out who it is for sure. CARRY that thing on your hip and get a German shepherd, the most protective and loyal dog ever. Sorry for the rant but that's my opinion.

I live in the southwest corner of Utah. I was visiting my late husbands grave, it's fairly remote in a pioneer cemetery. I was placing flowers and looked up and there was a man standing on the cliff looking down at me. Hands straight down at his sides. I felt uncomfortable and turned to leave and he started walking down the hill. I booked it back to my car. I'm a very fast runner for my age now due to younger days as a runner. Still..I now don't go out there without a weapon.
