Idiot leftist. Gen Z does not know shit. Let trump do his work, and shut up while you’re at it. 9/11 was a victory for America. We killed the leader of Al-Qaeda. Dear America, how about we don’t treat women and people of colour as victims, we treat everyone equally.

Christian Moore gen z students know shit. We know what it’s like to hide under a desk or in a closet, hoping no one comes shoot us. All of my friends have a classroom they hope they could be in if theirs a shooting. Mines the chemistry room. It has a chemical room we could hide in and pour chemicals on people. We hear about shootings almost daily and then percede to go on with our days. We know we shouldn’t have to live like this and that no older generation did. Most of us also recognize taking guns away isn’t the solution but we HAVE to do something. But we’re to young. The adults have to figure this out so we can be teens. Today I watched the hallway through the glass door in my classes today. There was a shooting this morning and I was worried it would happen to us. I got very little work done. When we go to school, we’re supposed to be safe but we’re not.

At this point in time, America is no longer the country of hope. It's the country of fear. Of course we wouldn't physically destroy it. However, mentally we have to. If Trump got anything right it's America is no longer the great country it was. However, he was put in office to change that. That's the president's job. He only made it worse. Now we can clearly see it's up to Gen Z to make America great again.

The point was she didn't understand it from what her parents said, but that her school learned about 911 - and hey look as far as gun violence and violence in general not a god damn thing has changed. I gave up thinking anything was going to happen after Sandy Hook. As long as our politicians are bought out by corporations (and the NRA) we aren't going to get any gun reform at all. Obviously that's one of the issues, but weirdly enough, other first world countries have people suffering with mental health problems as well, and yet they don't deal with as many shootings as we do. All of these other 1st world countries coincidentally have stricter gun laws too, it's almost as though that's what keeping these countries from ending up like the US.
Also, mental health has always been a problem in America, in fact, it was probably a bigger problem in the past because back then, people hardly addressed it or treated it properly. However, I don't recall learning about all the shootings going on in the 60s, 70s, or 80s, during which mental health was an even bigger issue than it is today.

He was homeschooled for two years and wanted to try going to school again. Now he’s afraid to be in school and so is my little sister. Children shouldn’t have to be afraid to go to school. They shouldn’t have to be afraid that someone will kill them.

Yes, it’s so entitled to be horrified at the fact that protocol is for us to huddle together and hope for the best in a dark room with glass walls. It’s entitled to say that something needs to change because we’re still dying and they’re just giving the shooter a bigger crowd to shoot into. It’s entitled to want to go to school for an education without having to be afraid, and to think that having preschoolers with their hands on their heads during a fire drill isn’t going to solve anything.
Maybe the entitled ones are the adults, actually able to do something about their own safety while we have to sit in a corner with our peers and wait it out.

My school has changed its protocol luckily. It’s called run hide fight. Basically the hide is a regular lockdown drill but now you pile stuff against the door suck as desk and chairs. The run is if in a safe situation or you have not other options you can run out of the school and find a safe area outside. Fight is if a intruder comes into a room we are in we have the right to throw anything we can at him such as textbooks, chairs, and even scissors. I think it is a good protocol because we don’t have to wait like sitting duck and can protect ourselves if needed.

And it started when I was a kid, hearing thoughts go to Boston, I remembered me watching some tv show and playing with my dog, and the tv switching to coverage of the Boston marathon, and I remember hearing that a guy lost his leg and it was found a neighborhood over, and to avoid the horror of it, my instinct was to turn to humor and the idea of a detached leg flying blocks away from the victim hilarious in a dark, sick way. I felt guilty but hearing the details and gruesomeness of the attack made me automatically switch to trying to see the ironic humor in such a dark topic, and I just cried (more) thinking about a ten year old(around that) laughing at flying, bloodied leg, because they don’t know how else to cope with that imagery.
Of course I cared about the victims, ever since I was little, when ever there was a tragedy, I’d look at the victims, and see their social media and who they were, and I’d look into amber alerts because I want to make sure kids are safe from predators. How could they send us to school, the day the attacker was supposed to come, and just have us sit there, all day and have us LEARN?! We should have been preparing, to protect the kindergarteners, to protect the other students. Then this year, a Gang came close to the school, and we were locked in the building forced to learn how to do Y=Mx+b
We need to learn how to protect ourselves, how to use a gun, that is now a CLASS WE NEED TO SURVIVE. When will we be protected, when will America get off its ass and start making a change, start fighting, showing we are not a country to be messed with!

But then the people that really wanted to fight for something to be done about it kept fighting and joined together, and then they actually made a big difference. Think of civil rights, women's rights, etc, or any other petition or protest that's ever succeeded, which there are a lot of.
Yeah it was hard, and took a lot of work, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. If we keep thinking that no one is going to listen us, that's not gonna help ourselves or anyone else. We have to work hard enough to make ourselves heard, and then work even harder to bring about the actual change. I know it sounds cheesy but it's best if everyone who wants to make a difference works together; if each individual person thinks their voice is too small, then that won't do anything, but if all those small voices come out and join together and keep consistent, they make a big voice. It can even work if it's not a lot of people, but in this case it is, so we have an even better chance. Think of the quote, "Be the change you want to see in the world." 😊

Even if we were to put restrictions on who is able to hold a weapon many people who currently own guns aren’t going to just hand them over simply because restrictions were put in place. Guns will still be as accessible as they are now with gun control. I do believe we should still have some type of gun control set in place, but that won’t minimize the threat.

As someone who is "in the middle" of two generations, millenials and gen Z, there is a very stark contrast in the transitions between what was before and what came after my graduation class. Those before me were more worried about getting out, getting into college, getting away. The graduating class before mine lost four classmates in one year to various tragedies. They were all just ready to move on to the next hard task. Those after me? My younger brothers class? Boycotted the school for two days, held a rally, and lived through several hard lockdowns. Thankfully never because of a shooter. My brother is only 3 years younger than me. My senior year was his freshman year. My senior year was the first time I had ever experienced a bomb threat at school. Was the first year we went into a soft lockdown for the whole day. But those were not the first of anything in my school. My brother has been in more lockdowns than I ever had to evacuate the school due to the fire alarms. And they malfunctioned several times when I was there. But what did my class ever do? As someone who was honestly rather out of touch with my classmates, honestly not enough. Never enough that it was noticed. What has my brothers class done? Clearly enough that I'm hearing about it.
3 years. The political climate has become such that even in college, I am terrified. 3 years, and there is such a stark difference. In this one way, there is a clear generational line drawn in the sand. And in others, it just shows how blurred that line is. I can't say that I can relate to this video. And I can't say that i am part of the America that these children are addressing. Instead, I'm in the middle, scrambling to do better and hoping those who can will make a change for me and everyone after me.

The moment a shooting happens it's like goddamn Christmas for them, they make these shooters famous throughout America and ultimately that's a huge fucking manipulating factor in school shootings believe it or not. Some of us understood, the rest, were like me, wanting to fight for our safety and help out as much as we could. We were prepared for battle, but it never came. We wanted to be safe. I keep my phone close to me for if a shooting were to happen I could text my parents that I love them.
I kept my ringer and phone vibrations off at all times at school not for fear of interruption, but for fear that in a lockdown it will start to ring or vibrate.
Alerting the intruder of where we are.
We sit still while holding our breathes, terrified that it will be our last day.
We see our life pass before our eyes.
We are told that we will be safe where we are if only we stay still with the lights off.
Even though we know that the intruders went to school.
Sometimes even to the school we are currently in, fearing for our already short lives.
    They know how lockdowns work.
They won't think that we're not there just because we're quiet and the lights are off.
    They call us entitled.
    How are we entitled?
How is wanting to live another day, and live without fear that it will be our last entitled?
How is it entitled to want to go to school without searching for places to hide.
How is going to school and not wanting to fear for our safety, and not just our safety.
    The safety of our friends.
    How is that entiltied?
We hide behind desks scanning the room for possible weapons.
Knowing that even if the intruder gets in and we fight and defeat them.
    Others will still die.
That's part of the life of our generation.
Only a small part of our life.
    There are other parts like...
    Feeling like failures.
Being piled with tests even though we already have our work to do still.
Even though we still have homework which we were unable to finish even after eight hours of doing it, because it was midnight and our parents told us that we have to go to bed now.
Some cheat because grades are more important than are mental health, and if we don't get A's and B's we won't get anywhere in life.
Because grades are all that matter.
Also don't forget that Math, Social Studies, English, and Science are more important than creativity ever will be.
So if you are even a little bit bad at any of those say goodbye to an elective like art, music, drama, or dance.
You can't do that so we'll take away the things that make you, you.
We'll also give you uniforms, because you can't be trusted to dress in an appropriate style.
If you dress that way you will never get a job.
You can give your opinion, but they won't listen.
You're younger than them and they have more experience so they know more than you ever will.
    Stop saying things like this!
You're just being an entitled brat!
This is getting to long so I'll end it here.
But this is still on 2% of our problems that we try to fix, but can't because we're "too young" to know anything or to change it.
Even though we're the ones that will be the ones the future expects to see next.

      Peachy fire
In America we’ve had over 300 shootings in this year alone. Nothing has changed. Nothing has gotten better. We live in constant fear. Kids make jokes about school shootings because that’s how often they have become. Many kids are often on the lookout for kids who have the characteristics to become shooters and report them. Our president is more concerned with someone kneeling when the national anthem plays than the future of this country being killed. All we get is thoughts and prayers and no one cares. They are there for their own personal gain and it’s only gonna get worse. There was this one idea where teachers are given guns.
      Teachers. Given. Guns.
That would only make it 1000x times worse. It would literally be a shootout. A bloodbath. A war. And there is the risk of students getting a hold of those guns.
America is called the “golden country.” Or the place you want to be, maybe compared to other countries. But our country has many dangerous issues that aren’t being resolved. You’re lucky you don’t have to live here.

      @icebear326 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

julia m honestly I don't think our country is that bad. We have our problems like school shooting, terrorists, etc. But compared to the majority of other countries in the world we are very lucky because we have a strong government system, a good military, we aren't constantly at war or in turmoil like many other countries, and we have very fair and just laws. I think once we can get another good president like Barack Obama who's main focuses aren't making Mexico pay for a walk across the border, then we can actually fix some of these problems.

    • @aldenheterodyne2833
      @aldenheterodyne2833 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@icebear326 Yup... Very fair laws.
Like dying of preventable diseases because we don't have a healthcare system that every other developed nation has.
Like a disproportionate number of prison inmates being brown.
Like it being legal to fire me for being gay in most states.
Like how the rich are allowed to tank the economy, and we have to suffer while the people who did it. get off without even a prison sentence.
America. Land of the wage slaves, home of the scaredy-cat racists.
I want to fix this country, but it won't be fixed just by putting a different person in. It can only be fixed by razing it to the ground, and replacing it with something else.

Not only in terms of fighting foreign threats, but we aren't addressing students illnesses or bullying or the root causes of gun violence. I look to our neighbors in the U.K. where they have banned firearms. The violence has steadily risen. This time in illegal firearm usage, acid attacks, and stabbings. I want desperately want to end the violence. The fault does not lie in firearms alone, but with how treat our youth and our mental illnesses.

Definitely not something that should be joked about, but it's become more and more common. It's no longer something of fear and hopelessness, but just another passing event in the course of human history. So we laugh about it to distract us from what we may just have to face one day
