i'm not 100% sure if this is what caused the failure.. but exedy's instructions that came with the clutch states to be very careful when you install the trans... do not let the weight of the trans hang with the input shaft partly in the clutch splines when installing the trans. When i was installing mine, i used the cherry picker to carry the weight of the trans until it is fully seated to the engine and bolted down. extreme psi has the cheapest price for the exedy twin also at around 1500 currently... or maybe your friend can try the new act twin disk for around the same price. I did alot of research on the exedy twin clutch and seen alot of people pulling their disks out with floppy springs and splines.. exedy blames it on install error as stated and that's why they send a warning instructions with the clutch.

My evo has a Exedy twin which I’ve been running for over 2 years now with a lot of beating and launch but never have a rattle issue. Noise didn’t occur after a month later. He was thinking of getting the ACT twin disc but later down the road
Even you install the thing right. But the driver don’t know how to drive twin desk still will explode. Have mine for almost 3 years now. Still running like new.
That sucks! Had something similar happened to evo after an act clutch install 500miles and a knocking sound coming from the tranny which was a flywheel bolt backed out. Can your buddy just order a new clutch setup and send the old one in for warranty then sold? That's what I would so the cars not apart and down
exedY from what ive been hearing/reading etc, has been lacking in quality control. Dont know if its just certain setups or what. A trend the past few years possibly because my ACT extreme clutch went after around 60k miles, cant complain there, but the throwout bearing broke and one ear was bouncing around
Dude dont drive it like that you'll end up damaging something else....Plus post this on the Facebook forums blasting them and I'm sure someone can reach out to help
