  • Canadian Cycling Magazine heads to Simcoe County in Ontario for a two-day, 160 km bike packing adventure on rail trail. Along the way, we visit the Elvale Spring, Balm Beach, Midland, Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons, Em’s Cafe in Coldwater, Orillia's Mariposa Market and Unity Market Cafe & Studios in Barrie.

    Nice video... do you recommend 32mm on a road bike to be sufficient to ride this trail and also trails in the region?

    I'm going this loop tomorrow 8am. Wish me luck!

      how did you make out ?

    • @URSoulSurgeon
      @URSoulSurgeon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevebarratt3158took me 8 hours. I didn't eat or drink enough, so I bonked. It was 3 degrees out, so we froze. Especially on the north side along the lake. A good learning experience.

      @@URSoulSurgeon Well Done, the cold adds a real challenge to it ! We stop 3 times drink a lot of water, and eat. I have found starting in Barrie ( north side ) and going counter clock wise a little easier on the mental game, the last 10 k are slightly down hill. See you on the trail !

    Nice video! Good route to travel light. Did you camp?

      You can definitely camp! Awenda Provincial Park is just a short trek off the trail and approximately halfway around the loop. cyclesimcoe.ca/explore/simcoe-county-loop-trail/

    Hi there,
    What do you do to eliminate the risk of a bear attack in camping in Canada?

    • @HollowRoadProduction
      @HollowRoadProduction ปีที่แล้ว

      This trail isn't in "bear country" here, and doesn't require any camping outside of cities and towns. It's a very safe ride!

    What size bike did you use for the Rondo AL? I am 165 meter in height. What size you recommend?

    can this be done in one day?

    • @CyclesimcoeCa
      @CyclesimcoeCa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it can! Lots of folks ride the loop in a single day. Experienced riders will ride it in approximately 8 hrs. Email us if you have any other questions - cyclesimcoe.ca/contact.

    not bikepacking at all since it's not self-sufficient. The idea of bikepacking is to access remote areas by bike that wouldn't be accessible otherwise (without an overnight trip). But this looks like fun and perfect for a family ride!

      I agree with you. Strapping a seat bag, sleeping in B&B and going gravel riding on some rail trails is not bikepacking.

      Gatekeep a little harder please, someone might actually have fun if you don't
