My favorite thing about skellige was how much more respectful the people were towards witchers compared to the people of velen and novigrad. Truly felt like a safe beautiful place.
I love the cultures of Skellige. It has a lot of inspiration from Nordic and Celtic culture. This also includes inspiration from the Viking culture. It’s just like how the nords of Skyrim have a lot of inspiration from the Nordic cultures.
Yeah, I found there are one or two in the distance while taking shots, but otherwise there aren´t any being full manned. It would be awesome to have trading ships coming in to dock and offload cargo
The lore in my head is that there were and are but there isn't as much diversity b/c of the greater natural competition in water (sharks, killer whales, sperm whales, etc) than on land.
Oh yeah, those are amazing XD It's also interesting to see how older generations have more southern (ROI) varieties (Madman Lugos, for instance, is pretty much a Dubliner) and younger folk sound more Northern Irish. And in the larger picture, Temerian people speak Midland English and Redanians more Northern English dialects (Radovid's accent is pretty much Yorkshire English), so the accents/dialects in the Northern Kingdoms and Skellige mirror the variational linguistic situation on the British Isles, which I absolutely love
The temple on Undvik is a peculiar place. It's Elven, and I question why it was built in the middle of nowhere, when even the jarls of Skellige knew enough to 'fit in' with the landscape, look at Kaer Trolde, built to fit in the mountain, not out standing in the middle of nowhere with no protection!
Different from the Northern realms, they are not bound by non-human issues or Mages. They will never submit to the Imperial rule as well. I remember reading the GWENT info about how scholars on the mainland conclude that the reason for failing to conquer Skellige is because of weather, Skelligers think that is the best joke they ever heard. lolll
God damn, your intros are amazing. Feels like I'm about to watch a 2 hour epic movie, except I'm watching a 15ish min video on something that's actually interesting. Love this as a lore channel, other ones I've watched is just someone reading from the wiki, where as you write a script. Such a massive difference.
Thank you so much, It´s really great know people appreciate that and like the videos. And yes, I do take info from the wiki but I don´t often copy and paste thanks for noticing the script though and the intro, it´s the hardest part to get right xD
I would say that Skellige has the best representation of a Nordic based culture in a medieval high fantasy setting. I would even say that Skellige looks more accurate to Nordic culture than Skyrim. There is a common saying that “Skellige did Skyrim better than Skyrim did Skyrim”
Culturally skellige feels very viking. As a norwegian it makes me smile when i hear words like "ragh nar rog", althing, freya, hemdall (heimdallr) and going on raids. But their accents makes me feel like i'm on ireland and it looks pretty irish or scottish in nature. So it's a mix between celtic and norse culture and folklore, i love it.
Just want to say bravo to the supreme editing of these videos. Better than any other Witcher lore videos I’ve seen. Better than most TH-cam videos for that matter. I hope your channel grows much larger. People need to see quality work in action.
Skellige is basically a remix of viking raider culture and scottish highlander clan culture. While Iron islands is pretty much just viking raider culture with some modifications. Skyrim is just basic pre-viking era nordic culture.
the thing is, Skelliga is fantasy vikings done right with all their falls and merits while still fitting in the universe they are set in. Iron Islands are bordeline larpers. Like some reall life Nordic anachronism who somehow survived to war of roses. To short it up. Goth is hurting my Europen historic sensibility because it is a war of roses stretch over a continent yet with the limitation of the British Isles without being half as diverse as reall medieval Britain.
@@ChodeMaster Nope. In the game it's an equal 50/50 Norse and Irish. In the books it's far more Irish. But to the ignorant of medieval Northern European cultures, which is most folk, Gaelic aesthetics, names and more are indistinguishable from Norse equivalents.

Vikings with northern Irish accents nice climate decent people who aren’t complete assholes. To hell with Tousant of idd were Geralt id permanently settle there specifically in Unvik. Don’t know about any of you but when I first played the quest the Lord of Unvik traveling to this wild island I immediately fell in love. The visuals are stunning the music amazing the brutal geography and the sense that you are exploring a uninhabited undiscovered frontier surviving only be relying on local available supplies is perfect for the Witcher mindset. I would set up a new school of the wolf build a new fortress in the middle of on the island to train a new generation of Witcher’s and Witchereses. More than their training and mutations the natural geography would help mold and develop their strength and endurance through survival and struggle. As part of a final test I would send young Witcher’s to survive for a few weeks in the wild to travel as far as the eleven tower and slay a decently powerful beast. If they survive and bring back a trophy to prove their success they pass and begin the Witcher’s path already possessing the practical knowledge of what this kind of life brings.
I heard both versions, and I have no idea which is right or wrong anymore, even in game the pronunciations change from character to character so it´s really confusing xD

I agree, they were much more welcoming too and didn't care so much about names but more so about what you could do.
So many monsters in Skellige, they probably came to rely on and respect Witcher’s.
@@WitcherGerd true same with toussaint
The only thing upsets them about Geralt is him not entirely respecting their customs
I *love* Skellige and their People.. Their Behavior...
It's so nice there, and the Music.. Beautiful..
It´s a really wonderful land, anything based off of vikings and Celtics culture tends to be awesome

mostly celtic
I hate how we don't really see boats moving around the sea and how there isn't much sea monsters besides sirens

skellige is by far my favorite land in the witcher
Skellige has the vibe of Scandinavia and the Vikings.
imo more like the irish

love the atmosphere skellige gives off. The only sin it has is that the whales aren't interactable!
Absolutely incredibly beautiful. The mountains, hills & ocean is stunning

No problem man :)

I would completely agree with that, they really showed the people, the culture and not just a stereotypes.

Ooooh, Skellige!
Svalblod and the Berserkers next?
Possibly, I´m looking into the next video currently
Anybody notice the similarities between skellige and the iron islands?
That's what I was thinking as well

So Scottish
Hey brother been following you for a while. Keep up the good work!
Will do brother, thanks :)
I can’t wait to see what you have in store
Thanks, I´m in the process of putting it together :)
How did you film these shots? I take stills with Ansel for fun, but this is incredible and well beyond what that can do. Beautiful work!
You need to get a mod which enables the console commands, then you have a few hotkeys to enable the free flying camera :)
Awesome as always
Thanks :)
Skellige has a lot of Irish influence
More Norse if anything

Good video, lovely shots as always!
One mistake though:
Tuirseach is pronounced as Twirsach.
Thanks and crap, I´ll fix that next time xD
LukeSparow I just played this bit - it’s more like tweer-sech in the English version.
It's not as someone who speaks Gaelic natively it's pronounced tirr-shochh
The intro music makes so fucking nostalgic fuuuuck

The whole of Skellige is based off of Celtic and Norse (vikings) mythology.
