A battalion is a unit size of anywhere from 300 to 800 soldiers. Considering ghouls work in packs i doubt they would ever consider attacking such a large force. In retrospect I think it more likely ghouls would attack stragglers, small fireteams (not sure what the medieval terminology for such a unit size would be) or maybe if there desperate a full platoon at best.
I think there is a case to be made. Ghouls aren't smart we know this, but alghouls could get a pack together that is rather large (say 100) if enough dead are around. So let's say a giant battle was just waged, and a battalion of 500 soldiers is going through the field trying to bring reinforcements to the forward camp. There 100 alghouls around feasting on the corpses. They surround the battalion and begin ripping into them. Regular soldiers might not have trouble with only a couple of alghouls but many at once all using that weird hedgehog spike power will be very tough for even many to bring down. Alghouls are fast, strong, and smart, and could probably have a chance. The problem is there probably won't ever be 100 alghouls in a single location as they, like most monster in the third witcher installment, are dying out, being hunted to extinction, and with witchers like geralt, they will most likely be killed soon enough. As long as they don't learn how to use a pitchfork that is.
You're actually incorrect about there being only the Spoon Wight in the game. There is ONE other wild wight that can be found in the North-East of Toussaint, guarding a Place of Power of Yrden.
There is also a third wight. That third wight is located in a cave, Just North of the tournament grounds. And you will actually run into it during the quest: “Warble of a smitten Knight”. When you follow Vivianne at night time. When you follow her at nighttime, She leads you into the forest and to a small pond. But, The quest leads to a cave, Which is a shortcut through the Hill and the cave lets out, Right above the pond that she’s heading too. In the cave, Lives a wight which will attack you, If you haven’t previously explored and encountered/ killed the wight who lives in the cave.
Would love to hear more about the folklore and/or the mythology behind the real world inspirations for these creatures in the witcher universe. Quality video as always, keep it up!
I must wonder what kind of a world were these things pulled from. like a rotfiend, that world must be extremely fucked up in order to produce these undead looking exploding incredibly hostile creatures.

The word you keep looking for is decomposer. An animal that eats rotten meat. ie alligators will often bury their prey under a log while it rots so they can eat it later
I want to think some necrophages are parasitic in nature, eventually growing a form based on the corpse they infect and outside stimuli. Drowners, Mudnixers and Vodniks would be people who died in the water, get infected by the Drowner species of parasite, and that parasite eventually grows into a Drowner/Mudnixer/Vodnik after eating their fill of the host, the type of Drowner they emerge as depending on the amount of food they eat in their juvenile stage. Ghouls and Alghouls would be people who died of attack/wounds, the parasite using the corpse as food and a chrysalis to eventually base a form off of. The more intelligent the corpse was in life, the higher the chance of it being an Alghoul. Rotfiends, Devourers and Scurvers would be humans dead from disease. This parasite would propagate inside its corpse, reanimating it over time and preventing further decay. However, due to the development of rot, their gas production would be phenomenal. Depending on how many parasites are made will make either a Rotfiend or a Devourer. The same mechanism would happen in Toussaint, but a speciation/mutation would make them different. These are just ideas that may play a part in creating certain Necrophages, since many of them look like the corpses they eat.
Love it!! Foglets ARE annoying bastards...They do have the necrofiend's ability to gather in groups of 3 or 4...Axii stuns them if you're at an early level. Rotfiends are absolute BITCHES if you don't get ready to back off, the explosions hurt if you don't back off in time or if you're 3 or more levels below them you'll be killed very easily. Quen is brill for them if you're on PC, you're also gonna need to keep lots of raw meat handy.
Probably my fault, but I always end up thinking a Foglet is an Ogroid when I'm fighting it. They just always make me think more of Nekkers for some reason.
I have been wondering is how do these Necrophages even reproduce as some of then are look to decomposed to be able to reproduce which is why i believe that they were fomer humans at first but got cursed but was disproven by the games themselves so where are these things coming from then?
HaiseKuromeru the water hags are speculated to be female downers. The hags may be similar to some lizard species, as in, some reproduce sexually (water hags) others asexually, without the need for a male (grave hags). Alternatively, downers and ghouls may have no sexual dimorphism or reproduce using their extraordinary regeneration (like a person-shaped sea star)
HaiseKuromeru rotfiends seem to be a product of something supernatural, because they're actually decomposing. Or, alternatively, they might be a kind of humanoid animal that uses rotten flesh and waste to protect it's tender body (like a hermit crab, but with dead things instead of seashells)
I am of the opinion macrophages are less their own creatures and more possessed corpses. In a world of magic it isn't unthinkable that certain kinds of spirits can claim a corpse and change it to suit the needs of the spirit. But they are all united by a desire to eat flesh.
I love that necrophages live so close to villages in velen ....like anybody can get killed if they just walk around 100m away from a village Yet the people and kids are merry and happy and are only worried about nilfgardiaan soldiers
Getting back into the Witcher after the show premiered. This is an awesome channel. Very informative and well edited. The only problem I have is with the strange audio quality. At the very least you should be able to tell the difference between a ghoul and an alghoul.
Alghouls tend to have blackish marks bellow their eyes and longer spikes down their back
By markings, like unto the panthera tigris that in Zerrikania dwells. And by the sickly paleness of its visage.
It’s harder for newer players, for me I’d noticed some had a different name but not nearly as obvious was the pact enhancement it gave to its allies.

Well the crones turned the barons wife into a water hag. So I wonder if this means that hags should really be classified among the cursed ones.
There are a few creatures that cross the line between two classes, I think a lot of them are generalized though by folklore.
