I enjoy your realistic reviews. You can tell that you're never trying to sell us on anything, only showing us what we need to know and setting our expectations appropriately. I think that is why your channel is successful. I have the A17 as well but not the pro varmint version. Your group with that ammo is actually better than anything I've tried in mine.
Happy New Year to you! One thing... it's not just because of your subscribers that your channel has been successful, it's because of YOU! The content YOU provide is so non-bias, straightforward, accurate and enjoyable. I get excited every time I see a new video! Keep on keepin' on! And THANK YOU.
Thank you, that means a lot to hear! I’m glad you enjoy the videos! I do try to just call stuff like I see it, sometimes I might get something wrong or change my mind about something at a later date but in the moment I am just being real.
Happy New Year to you, too, Buffalo. Probably THE best firearms channel, and I've watched just about ALL OF THEM. He's not arrogant, he has zero EGO and never pushes a product or company. Just honest opinions and honest reviews. ONE of the biggest reasons why I love this channel is because he uses firearms that almost all of us can actually afford to own and shoot, unlike 90% of all the other channels that only show expensive ass guns that only the 1% can afford. KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK BUFFALO 😊
Dang man, I just went up a hat size.... LOL Seriously though thanks for this comment. I just call em like I see em. Sometimes I might get something wrong but I'd never intentionally mislead anyone. It means a lot that some of you all actually see that in me and value that in today's world.
Hearing you say " but I'm just not motivated to do that" made me laugh hard enough to have tears in my eye's. Thanks for making my day! We're here because of you brother.
We like straight to the point reviews without all the fluff. The recoil pad is a nice touch as it helps prevent the butt from sliding around on one's shoulder
Also from slipping on the floor when you rest a rifle on something while it's standing on the butt pad. Whose had a nice rifle wearing an expensive scope slide and fall because of a hard, slippery butt plate? ✋🏼
That is respectable performance for a semi auto. And the velocity is awesome! Hornady, CCI and older Federal run 2650 ish in my 917V and Ruger American Rimfire standard 18” so that A17 is cookin! Accuracy looks good for a semi auto. Enjoyed this one! Take care!
I bought a Cooper model 57M in 17 HMR a few years ago. It is extremely precise, it has a wonderful trigger and is overall quite beautiful. I have had good luck with CCI 17 grain VNT ammunition.
Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate your comment. I just try to call it like I see it, sometimes I might get it wrong but it's the way I see it at that time.
It's a bit of a disappointment to have Savage NOT listen to the rifle owners who have complained about the difficulty of loading that 'bear of a magazine'. I guess most of us are so used to loading up other magazines similar to this one, and with little problem, that we do find issues with the Savage copy ( copy in tyhe real sense and meaning of the word here ) I did call Savage Canada (a few years ago) on my difficulty in trying to load up the mag. but they didn't seem to give me much hope of having a look at this problem./ end result, I've been buying competing rifles, ruger american rimfire, marlin ( when I could ) CZ , Chiappa etc. Thanks Buffalo, for this video and I always find your content to be enjoyable AND informative,.... all the best of my good wishes for the New Year 2025.
Thanks for this comment my friend. I agree 100% about the magazines. I sped up the part where I was loading them because it takes me so long to get them loaded. They could definitely do better than that. Especially since the other company has it figured out.
@@buffalosoutdoors I am pleased that you agree, makes me feel I am correct when others agree. However I do like these Savage rifles and it's a darn shame about those magazines.
Good to see another Buffalo video. I haven't really found the purpose for a .17 caliber round, but still look at the rifles. It isn't something that you could really suppress, as I haven't seen sub sonic rounds for it. Where I live, quiet is good, so I am always looking for either a .22 rifle with a threaded barrel, or replacement barrels for other handgun calibers when I get the hankering to buy some steel.
I had no idea that Lab Radar LX existed. I was hoping it would be cheaper than the Garmin - which I also can't justify spending $600 for. Looks like it reads very well.
It reads a lot better than my chronograph. I’m going to make a video showing some of the features it has but I have to learn them all first 😂 I’ve only had it since Christmas. Thanks for stopping in my friend. It’s always appreciated!
@@buffalosoutdoors Impressive it read those tiny and fast bullets so well. I heard the big differences between this and the Garmin is this will give you bullet coefficient readings. Maybe you can figure out how to show that. Perhaps deform the noses of some .22lr and see if you get different readings from non-deformed? Just an idea.
Always enjoy your videos. Don’t always watch them all the way through, but I genuinely enjoy just hearing you say hello. I’ve looked at these a bit, both the 17hmr and 22wmr. I ended up getting a Bear Creek upper in 22wmr and have actually been pretty darn pleased with it.
I purchased a bca chf 16" 7.62x39 upper pared with a psa complete lower(my 1st AR) shoots good. I chose it because I won a PFI 1x6 bdc for caliber or 300blk, from Halfmilesniper's channel...win scope , had to buy rifle...lol
@@buffalosoutdoors Dear Buffalo, I bought one of BCA's new bolt-action AR uppers in 350 Legend and am very pleased. After sighting in my scope I put 3 of my hand-loads in the same hole in the middle of the bullseye at 50yd. It was pouring that day (as it does for 10 months straight) in the western Soviet of Washington so I didn't feel like getting soaked to set a 100yd target --- some day soon. BCA's customer service is excellent. Love your channel.
As a recent subscriber to the channel and someone who grew up not too far away from you, I love your channel. You know what you're talking about and every video I've watched has been a great learning experience. Happy New Year, brother!
I love my A17. It shoots damn well. right around 1/2" 10 shot groups. Thanks for showing us yours. Mine is just the sporter model, in the pepper laminate stock. I prefer those much more than the plastic stock Savage uses. Yours is very nice, and I like the heavier fluted barrel. As for the ammo, mine does not like the A17 ammo, but dotes on regular old Hornady and Federal plastic tip ammo.
Happy New Year, Buffalo! And I hope it is a great year for you and your family! With all the rimfire cartridge development in recent years, such as the .17 Winchester 'Super Mag', I'd love to see someone come out with a 6mm (.24) or .25 caliber rimfire with 60 gr. or 70 gr. bullets. Seems like the .17 Winchester Super Mag, which is based on a .27 caliber nail gun cartridge, could just as easily be necked up to .24 or .25 caliber. It would be a great choice for larger varmints (raccoons, foxes, coyotes) Just wishing out loud. 🤷♂
Thanks. I am hunkered down here at home. I've got a prepper streak in me so I have enough supplies to keep me from having to go out for a while. Thank you for your comment!
Thanks for noticing that. The added pressure of getting all the cameras arranged and focused, then crossing my fingers that one of them doesn't shut off definitely shows up in my groups sometimes.
I feel I'd generally stay away from .22wmr pattern semi-autos (.17 hmr and such), due to the historical issues they've had with case blowouts, difficultly in action reliability, prone to fouling related malfunctions and so forth. It's just a rifle casing that wasn't designed for gas pressure cycling in general. I'm a big .22wmr advocate in manual actions (single, slide, revolver, bolt, lever), it's such a capable and versatile cartridge with double the reach of a typical .22lr, the cartridge packages very tidy, reaches into self defense territory, doesn't cost a ton, and primers are generally more reliable than the LR.
You too! Hopefully it’s not as bad as they’re saying! I am replying to this at 9 pm on Sunday and we still have power here. I'm over near Cave Run Lake.
Some years back not to long after the 17hmr came out i bought a H&R single shot . Install a Bushnell elite scope .Was a very accurate rifle. With Hornady ammo it would cut a wood screw into at 50yards . Unfortunately someone broke in my home and stole it and some other items.
Happy new year from toasty hot Australia. Love ya work Buff and thank you for taking the time to put these videos together. I can't be playing with a semi auto or a pistol so I live vicariously through you.
Happy New Year from Kentucky! I love hearing from folks from far away places, that's the magic of YT. It's a shame you can't enjoy the semi autos there, Australia seems like such a wild and free place on the surface.
Great content, Buffalo. I look forward to your videos: many of my favorites sadly are no more. Just makes me appreciate your channel all the more. Cheers!
Happy 2025, Buffalo! Thank you for making this presentation. You getting a half inch group with a marshmallow trigger, puts a smile on my face. It's good to know about the magazines being interchangeable. That's really convenient.
Happy New Year to you and your family. Congratulations on your success with your channel. I always look forward to your videos. Stay warm and safe on this cold weekend.
Thanks for another great informative video. Great little rifle. I have the A22 & taking it apart is simple also. Mine had the factory grease caked up on the bolt assembly. Runs great & pretty accurate with most ammo. The 17HMR round is very accurate & fun. Stay safe cause it may get slick tomorrow. 👍🎯🙏
Thanks Bill. I am enjoying the .17 and you know I like anything 22. I am hunkered down at home. Being a bit of a prepper I have enough supplies that I don't have to go out for a while unless one of the kids calls and needs me or something like that. Stay warm and safe my friend.
Happy New Year, sir. My Ruger .17 bolt action with bull barrel is so fun! My ammo bill with a semi-auto, with 3 boys, 😖. Keep them coming!! You’re the best pistol shot since Wild Bill or Doc, I would bet my check on it!!
Another great video Buffalo, thank you. I see you're not the only one that doesn't have a gushing opinion of the Savage trigger. My nephew has a .270 that has one. I wonder if a Timney trigger wouldn't be a great improvement on those rifles. To me a trigger is the heart of the gun.
If it's anything like this one, I'd say pretty much anything aftermarket would be an improvement. I do not like this trigger at all and I'm no trigger snob.
My Bison friend I can't believe it 197k subs! When I subbed there weren't many but I knew you'd catch fire. I'll bet there's 140k worth of old wheel-gunners just like me subbed lol. Stay Golden my friend. Cheers from up north 🇨🇦
@ you’ve earned the love and the respect being given to you big fella. We know you’re humble but it’s ok to rip out a yippee kyeyayyy when the camera is off. Sure wheel guns were around since dinosaur days. But wheel gun power was needed, resulting in a safer planet for us all! Be well and Happy New Year 🥳
Always thought rimfire guns should have a last round bolt hold open as dry firing is a no no. I can't shoot and count at the same time. Great video as usual.
The "Old Hill Billy "is my favourite channel. Thanks for your great reviews. I am looking forward to 2025 reviews .Happy and healthy New Year to you and your family.😊
Happy new year man . I love 17's , my mate has got a savage .17 on a bolt , proper tack driver , We cant have semi on anything other than .22lr . 17 is so safe in comparison to the .22 for ricochets on stoney ground the way they fragment .
Nice review Buffalo! I really like the delayed blowback feature which must be reason for flawless semi auto cycling you mentioned. I need to use only 40 grain ammo on my takedown KMS PPK 611 22 wmr to avoid cycling issues. Still wont sell it though as it is basically a BRNO ZKM 611 22 wmr made with same tooling machinery purchased from BRNO by a company now based in Slovakia. I may buy an A17 or A22wmr though:)
Great channel you have here. I see now why you have the scope mounted a little high. I prefer mine as low as possible. In my mind I've convinced myself that you have less hold over or under when sighted in at 50 yds and shooting at different ranges if the scope is low. I try to keep our sprinkler irrigated hay fields free of Richardson Ground Squirrels with my .22 LR's. Its an impossible task, but I try. I think I've seen you shoot better 50 yd groups with a handgun!!! I enjoy following your channel, thanks.
I usually try to mount my scopes to a height where I can get a good cheek weld on the stock but I did have to take into consideration the access cover on this rifle. It's not terribly high but I would prefer it just a little lower. The offset between line of sight and the bore certainly plays a role in point blank range and as you mentioned hold under/over. I wasn't real proud of the group I shot in the video but I that's what that rifle ammo combo does. I might shoot a half inch group or I might shoot over an inch. So I figured that was a good group to show since it was in the middle. I am glad you enjoy the videos and clearing a field of ground squirrels with a 22 sounds like a day in paradise to me.
Thanks for another great video. I have a Savage A22 22lr in the Boyds thumbhole laminate stock (Wally World special) I like the rifle. I haven't shot it in awhile but I don't remember the trigger being as bad as yours. I'll have check it out.
nice video. I've had a couple of the A series. You can get the Jard trigger that drastically improves the trigger. In terms of the ammo I found the A17 will happily take other ammo. like you said it's not a match gun, however 100+ on the ES is a lot and if you were trying to take some small varmint at 100, well it could turn into an inhuman shot.
I think a thermostat from the auto parts store would drastically improve the trigger... lol JK.. I have fired a few rounds of other ammo in it, just not enough to really come to any conclusions. Especially since, for my purposes, I don't really have a reason to go chasing benchrest accuracy that wouldn't improve my actual in field abilities anyway (I bought this for groundhogs and where I live 100 yards is a long shot). That being said I understand those who do. I'm not here to disagree. I may even do a follow up video once the weather turns and do an ammo test just for the fun of it. If I get the time.
Happy New Year....That is one nasty round for those little critters....Very well detailed info and not many semi's our there for this round....Good stuff....
Always love your content Buffalo ! For the longest time I wanted an A17. Then I came across a B17 deal that I couldn't say No to. I wasn't thrilled about that the "best" ammo for an A17 was that CCI stuff you used in the video. That ammo is fairly expensive. Why is it that stuff cycles better than the other options available for A17? So I like the B17 better for the reason that the ammo isnt "brand specific". My wife & kids love to shoot my B17 for the low recoil & the fact it's a bolt, teach them to take your time with each shot. Also you are absolutely right on the mags. They are a pain in the ass loading. Not a big fan. I tried making the bigger capacity mags fit but they don't make a B17 mag in that configuration. Even tried to "modify" an A17 mag to run in a B17. No luck. My B17 trigger doesn't seem to have that spongy creep that your A17 did in the video. It is considered a "budget" rifle hence the cheaper version of the accutrigger maybe ?? Thank you for all the great content and and time you put into making these informative videos.
What a great comment. Thanks for taking a minute to leave it here. I commend you for getting the wife and kids involved, I wish more people would do that. I don't have a B17 but I do have the B22 magnum. The trigger in the B22 magnum is better than the one in the A17 for sure. As for the magazines it is frustrating that Savage hasn't done anything to improve them. I sped up the part in the video where I was loading the mags because of how long it takes me to load them.
The 3-inch gong bit got the wife mid-coffee gulp. Bravo Buffalo! 😂 Happy New Year, and thank you for all of the great content over the years! If a guntuber could be the equivalent of comfort food or a favorite shirt, you'd be it! (That's from the missus 😁)
@@buffalosoutdoors I came across your older reviews on it. The beowulf is such a great round. It just doesn't receive enough attention and gets overshadowed by all the new rounds
I have the same rifle. Mine likes the Winchester 20 grain bullets. I felt the trigger was horrible. I put in a jard aftermarket trigger. It’s much better , but kinda expensive for what the rifle is.
I looked at the Jard triggers after some others mentioned it and I am sure it's a great trigger (just about anything would be an improvement 😂) but I am not serious enough with this rifle to start sinking that kind of dough into it. If I were I'd definitely bite the bullet and get one.
Well I got my Buffalo fix. I can start 2025 in earnest now! Loved the line about separating varmint ghosts from their physical bodies LOL I hadn't heard it put that way before!
Hey brother Buffalo, Happy New Year! I am very curious about the new 22 Sharp and whether you will be doing some comparisons for us this year. I am definitely looking forward to seeing your videos, as I always am!
That cartridge is on my radar. I'm waiting to see if any other ammunition starts being produced before I get on board. Also I'd like to see some other choices in rifle brands become chambered for it. It is interesting though.
Happy new year to ya Buffalo, n your family as well, darn good plinking as usual, lol, my rifle of choice would be the 22 mag, cuz I've never shot 17 hmr yet, but I've shot a ton of 22 mag, of all the guy's I know that shoot 17 hmr, have gotten problems with their rifles, jams, misfires, poor accuracy, but I've never experienced that with a 22 mag, I stick to what know shoots best for me ,maybe one day, a 17 hmr will come along on my travels, oh well, stay safe, shakyjake out.
Thanks Shakyjake! I like .22 mag too. There's a lot of crossover between what the .22 mag is used for and the .17hmr. I am sure I didn't need this rifle but it was one of those things I wanted to try. All in all I'm satisfied but there is a lot of room for savage to improve on this one.
I enjoy your realistic reviews. You can tell that you're never trying to sell us on anything, only showing us what we need to know and setting our expectations appropriately.
As always, very thorough and well done video.
Thank you!
Great content, Buffalo. I look forward to your videos: many of my favorites sadly are no more. Just makes me appreciate your channel all the more. Cheers!
I appreciate the kind words... and I know what you mean, many of my favorites are gone as well.
Not a 'Hillbilly' but the true heart of America.
Thanks for the kind words. Happy New Year.
May you be blessed this year and happy new year also👋👋👋👍🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
Thank you! I hope 2025 is good to all of us!
Happy 2025, Buffalo! Thank you for making this presentation.
You getting a half inch group with a marshmallow trigger, puts a smile on my face.
It's good to know about the magazines being interchangeable. That's really convenient.
Thank you. That trigger is definitely a bottle neck in terms of wringing accuracy out of the rifle. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Happy New Year to you and your family. Congratulations on your success with your channel. I always look forward to your videos. Stay warm and safe on this cold weekend.
Thank you. I'll be hunkered down here at home for the next few days. Happy New Year to you and yours as well.
Another home run video Buffalo. Even with a creepy trigger, I think it’s a good gun
Thank you! It could certainly use some improvements (trigger) but overall it's expected it to be.
Happy New Year Buff, I've been on the fence for a while about 17hmr....you definitely present it very well
Glad I could help!
Happy New Year, sir. My Ruger .17 bolt action with bull barrel is so fun! My ammo bill with a semi-auto, with 3 boys, 😖. Keep them coming!! You’re the best pistol shot since Wild Bill or Doc, I would bet my check on it!!
I felt that when you mentioned "ammo bill". lol I appreciate the comment. Thanks and I hope 2025 is good to all of us!
Thanks! I can't believe it either. I really can't. I sure do appreciate it though. Wheel guns are where it's at!
@ you’ve earned the love and the respect being given to you big fella. We know you’re humble but it’s ok to rip out a yippee kyeyayyy when the camera is off. Sure wheel guns were around since dinosaur days. But wheel gun power was needed, resulting in a safer planet for us all!
Be well and Happy New Year 🥳
Happy New Year. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us.
Happy New Year to you!
Happy New Year to you as well. Thank you for providing quality videos. I'll be looking forward to the next one.
Thank you, I appreciate the support!
Always thought rimfire guns should have a last round bolt hold open as dry firing is a no no. I can't shoot and count at the same time. Great video as usual.
I agree with you. I prefer the last shot hold open feature.
Another good video. That's the way to kick off 2025 with great content!!
Thank you!
That's a nice two stage trigger you have there.
Sometimes it's 3 stage. Sometimes it's even a 4 stage trigger 😂😂
The "Old Hill Billy "is my favourite channel. Thanks for your great reviews. I am looking forward to 2025 reviews .Happy and healthy New Year to you and your family.😊
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the channel. Happy New Year to you and yours as well!
Happy New Year to you and yours!!! Thanks for bringing us this one. Been debating about getting one. Great Info!!!
Happy New Year to you too! Glad the video was helpful. Always appreciate your comments here and on FB brother!
Happy New Year Buffalo from one Hillbilly to another. That's a sweet .17 HMR, thanks for posting!
Happy New Year Hillbilly!
Happy new year man . I love 17's , my mate has got a savage .17 on a bolt , proper tack driver , We cant have semi on anything other than .22lr . 17 is so safe in comparison to the .22 for ricochets on stoney ground the way they fragment .
That's a good point about ricochet. Happy New Year to you too!
Very nice , lots of informative stuffs , and lots of camera views .
Thank you! It's a lot of work setting up the cameras but I enjoy the process of bringing them all together. Thanks for noticing.
That's a cool piece!
Has a butt ugly forestock but is deadly accurate and easy to dissassemble and clean:)
A great honest review! I like it and I think it shoots well. Thanks for a great video.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Nice video. These are so tempting to get one. I wish the trigger was better, because I know I would end up getting a JARD
I wish it was better too! Maybe they aren't all as bad as the one on my rifle. The Jard is a great option but they're spendy. I'm tempted.
Happy New Year Buffalo! Great video as always. Thank you Sir for all your hard work and time.🤠🇺🇲
Thanks for tuning in my friend! Always good to see you in the comments! Happy New Year!
Happy '25 Buffalo!
Thanks, Happy New Year to you too!
Thanks for another great video. I have a Savage A22 22lr in the Boyds thumbhole laminate stock (Wally World special) I like the rifle. I haven't shot it in awhile but I don't remember the trigger being as bad as yours. I'll have check it out.
Let me know. This is the only A series rifle I have.
Love your content, keep em coming sir.
Thanks! I'll do my best!
Id like this in 17 WSM!
Happy New Year Big Buff.
Thanks and same to you!
Happy New Year Buffalo and Thank you !!!
Happy New Year to you too! Thanks for watching.
Happy New Year to you too Buffalo.
Thanks! Hope you're having a good one so far!
@@buffalosoutdoors Buffalo I would absolutely be interested in seeing the results of an ammo showdown... if you get time!
👍👍appreciate all you do Buffalo and hope you have a great 2025.
Thank you! And same to you!
Happy New Year....That is one nasty round for those little critters....Very well detailed info and not many semi's our there for this round....Good stuff....
Thanks for the kind words. Happy New Year! Always good to hear from you brother!
@@buffalosoutdoors 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Happy New Year, and thank you for all of the great content over the years! If a guntuber could be the equivalent of comfort food or a favorite shirt, you'd be it! (That's from the missus 😁)
HAHAHA! I'm glad somebody got that. I almost didn't put it in the final edit.
Happy New Year buffalo! I hope we get to see a lot more from you this year👍👍😁
I'm hoping to get back to posting weekly. We shall see if life cooperates! Thank you!
Thank you, buffalo!
You're welcome! Thank you for watching.
Thanks again for another great review. Happy New Year!
You're welcome! Happy New Year to you too!
Happy New Year to you and family ! Look foward to your awesome content in 2025 !
Thank you I hope 2025 is good to all of us!
I really enjoy your videos and reviews. Would love to see some more on the 50 beowulf I know it's a throwback
I still have my 50 beowulf upper. I might see if I can put something together with it. I haven't used it in a while.
@@buffalosoutdoors I came across your older reviews on it. The beowulf is such a great round. It just doesn't receive enough attention and gets overshadowed by all the new rounds
Hey there Brother. Just keep doing You.
Thank you!
That stock is nice!! 🎉🎉
Thanks! I agree, it's a nice stock.
Love you brother don't change❤🎉🎉
I don't know how even if I wanted too! Thanks!
Great review and love your content. Keep it up !
Thank you!
Well I got my Buffalo fix. I can start 2025 in earnest now! Loved the line about separating varmint ghosts from their physical bodies LOL I hadn't heard it put that way before!
Haha! Enjoy 2025!
Happy New Year !
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Buffalo! Keep up the great work in 2025. See you at the next one.
Happy New Year to you too! Thanks for watching!
It's been about 12 months since.... a good ol' fashioned sodie pop killin. 😆
I'll have to fix that! 😂
Happy new year 🎆 😊
Happy New Year!
👍 Good review Buffalo 🦬, as usual.
Best wishes for the New Year….😊.
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
Happy New Year from Frankfort
Thanks! I was over in your area last week!
Just keep on freeing up the ghost from the physical bodies 😂😂 Just love that comment, I'll try to remember and use some day myself
Glad you liked that! Sometimes I say stuff and then later when I'm editing the video together I think to myself "you shouldn't have said that" 😂😂
Happy new year to ya Buffalo, n your family as well, darn good plinking as usual, lol, my rifle of choice would be the 22 mag, cuz I've never shot 17 hmr yet, but I've shot a ton of 22 mag, of all the guy's I know that shoot 17 hmr, have gotten problems with their rifles, jams, misfires, poor accuracy, but I've never experienced that with a 22 mag, I stick to what know shoots best for me ,maybe one day, a 17 hmr will come along on my travels, oh well, stay safe, shakyjake out.
