I love Uril, and it was in a secret lair with awesome monster magazine art recently. Knickknack Ouphe is also awesome in the deck. Mines mostly 1 and 2 drop auras and creature that draw you a card when auras are played lol. I also have colossification, Chandra's ignition, and Nylea's Colossus for fun. All my mana ramp are land enchantment auras and my defensive spells are also auras like pacify just to keep with the aura theme. 😂
The good thing about Ruric Thar is while you lock yourself out of noncreature spells Gruul has very good creatures that have activated/ triggered/ and static abilities you don't miss them as much as you'd think and you can also still get the effects of utility lands. Also one thing people always seem to forget is you can still use cards with the Channel effect as it doesn't count as casting the card so you're still able to get a few noncreature type effects without shooting yourself in the foot
Using the Blood rush ability, as well as the Channel ability on gruul-colored creatures, is *the* way to psych out your opponents. Nothing says 'only using creatures spells' like discarding a 3/3 to give a random creature Giant Growth at instant speed, and then discarding a 1/2 to essentially put a Lure spell onto a creature with deathtouch.
@kristophermichaud4467 I've never used Ruric as a Commander but back when he was in standard and New Phyrexia rotated out (2014ish i think) it was always funny confusing other players thinking you crippled yourself but you still have etbs and bloodrush like you said. I used to run a set of Cavern of Souls just so I could get him out after ramping so I'd get him turn 3 and make the control players rage and scoop
My sister is allergic to you. Also I have to give props for immediately bringing up Ruric Thar, or as my playgroup lovingly called 'The Peepee Poopoo Man'. My first deck was, and my favorite still is my Nikya "oops all creatures" Commander deck, and he is such a good combo disruptor, especially when the opponent is low on health. Hard to pull off a storm count of 6 when it costs you 36 health in the process.
Uril would make an excellent backup commander to Mazzy, Truesword Paladin - giving trample, anthem, and aura recursion to Uril and other aura loving creatures! Furthermore, aura curses go nuts with Mazzy 😎
I’ve actually been running both in my Preston Garvey deck. Preston Garvey’s great because you get to cast twice as many spells per turn if you enchant all your lands to ramp him out quick, and then put a few auras on various creatures. Uril draws the attention away from Preston quite well, and Mazzy helps keep the auras around
Uril is Not really fun imo I played him last week and he comes down and kills a player next turn. Not much interaction possible so it was boring for me (playing him) and the opponents as well. Sick art though

Oh wow, that version of Uril looks so cool! Thanks for sharing that, never knew I existed XD

This is so true! You really don't need those non creature spells with Ruric.

Hahaha, I'm loving these deck names dude.
"The peepee poopoo man" is legendary.
Darn, never knew people could be allergic to glorious mangos :O
I like to hear stories like your experience with Uril
#1 mango in the multiverse
I'll try and add some more stories in my next videos :D

We need some updated uril and mazzy deck techs 🎉

Sounds like a plan :P
If you like artifact decks with an aristocratic spin try Jan Jansen out :P
Nice recommendation! Thanks!
