      No idea... we dont have that type of facility available close by and I'm not driving an hour or 3 to find out. Any suggestions?

      107 mph. 65g Hzrdus shaft trying my best to hit it straight rather than far..

      Currently in lessons about 105mph but that's really trying to hold back and work on technique.
      My 7i was at 97mph when I started lessons, now it's about 89mph.
      Don't go quite as far, but do stay on the planet

    Ive moved to a Mizuno from a Ping G400 with a counter balance shaft. The mizuno shaft is lighter but feels heavier, as coach said. I was a bit perturbed at first but I like it now Ive hit it a few times.

    I use a 50 gram shaft in my callaway great big Bertha. I struggle to find and that works for me better. I have similar speed like mark. I completely agree with the lighter driver theory. I have been using one for the last 5 years.

    I experienced the same feeling of "heaviness" when I purchased asset of Mizuno JPX EZ Forged irons with the stock graphite shaft, which were Orochi 65 grams. Clubs felt so heavy I had to slice the grips off and replace them with counter-balanced ones, which helped a bit. Interesting that I have 65 gram Recoil shafts in a set of newer Mizuno JPX 919 Hot Metal and don't have the same "heavy" feeling with them.

    Love it ,after having a fitting,lesson ,handcrafted shaft ,tailored head. He picks up a Mizuno with a ultra light shaft he's never used and smashes the crap out of it ,straight up the fairway! Golf eh? Bet you no one will buy a Mizuno driver ,even after it's got coach "fairwayfinder"Lockey owning the par 5!

    Great video Mark, I would have liked to see Mat loft down to 8 1/2 degrees on the Mizuno. A question for you if you don’t mind. I noticed Mat’s smash factor was sub 1.40. Is that due to miss striking or that the GC quad wasn’t picking it up because of no dots on the club face?

  • @erich9882
    @erich9882 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a small data set but I am curious, Coach, why do you choose to use a counterbalanced shaft which, presumably, provides less clubhead feel and therefore less consistent delivery in its current setup compared to the Mizuno. Do you feel you could gain consistency from going away from counterbalanced or adding weight to the current head to get some better sweetspot awareness throughout the swing?

  • @henrysmit3061
    @henrysmit3061 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, why is Rick Shiels hitting the ball further on monitor with lower club head speed, is the lighter shaft shorter or is the diffrence in launch angles. Why use a lighter shaft, seems he has to put in more effert to get simmilar results. Interesting test would be on caurce.

    Congrats on 300k Mark, well deserved. So, from looking at this vid and Coaches comments on 39g shaft feeling heavier as not counterbalanced...the next step surely is a 39g counterbalanced shaft then?! Great vid 😉

  • @davidabrial5328
    @davidabrial5328 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lovely boy, fast, but why is the efficiency not higher on that centered smashed ball with the mizuno ? Not striking it up enough ? Or is it the small 2.3° in to out path ?

  • @grahamtomlin3272
    @grahamtomlin3272 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A question, is the counterbalanced shaft causing a problem for Coach, it appears that the lighter non-counterbalanced shaft is allowing the club head to catch up so that he's presenting a more square face to path?

  • @benjaminsmith7060

    There has been a shaft around for some time. I used to use it for long drive. It’s called a 44magnum by aldila. All flexes in 40 grams ( except the tour x at 50g ) It’s quite impressive. Definitely worth checking out.

  • @troymiles469

    What is the difference in swing weight between the 2 clubs?

  • @bad79z
    @bad79z 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Matt is a skilled golfer, and you 2 have proven over and over that flex means nothing. People can respond to overall weight and swing weight. Maybe the way something feels but we adapt. You put any shaft in our hands and we will hit good shots and bad shots. There is no magic formula that fixes a swing. Point he face where you want the ball to start and swing as hard as you can and try to hit the middle.

  • @danam1596
    @danam1596 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just watched Rick Shields hit his driver. His club head speed is on average 6mph slower than Matt’s but he gets more distance (5 to 6 yards). Is this down to launch angle or spin maybe? If so there must be improvements for Matt surely?

    Very interesting stuff! I have often found I have less face control with a counterbalanced setup. It feels like I have less awareness of where the club head is. I gotta wonder if Coach is experiencing the same thing here? The lighter weight part is definitely interesting too but could the better results vs his current gamer be more a factor of swing weight?

    Help me out here - I kinda thought speed was only half of the equation. Transferring energy from your club to the ball comes from the momentum of your club, which is speed multiplied by mass. Are we saying that decreasing the weight of the shaft increases the speed of the swing to the point where more energy is being produced? And to take the analogy of reversing a sledgehammer a step further, a person could swing much faster with the sledgehammer reversed but couldn't drive a nail worth a darn. What would happen if you reduced the shaft weight by 20 g but put 20 g of weight on the clubhead? DO IT COACH !

  • @MrLeftyno1
    @MrLeftyno1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    i found I picked up 7 mph club head speed with a 39 gram shaft but the spin was very high, so dynamic loft was greatly effected, but a stiffer version could work for me.

  • @michaelmolloy7067
    @michaelmolloy7067 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It seems more of a swing weight test than a weight or flex comparison, it would be interesting to find out the swing weight difference. Especially since there is a clear disparity in face control.
