    I don't care what anyone says-- just like I said last year, the Providence is a master stroke of genius. When Franklin says "foreign international markets," I say, "You mean like *California* ?" Because this gun is not a "semi automatic" by any legal definition. It is a *bolt action single shot* weapon-- but you simply in manipulate the bolt with your finger. Simple as pie, and now the fun starts... 9x19 super scary looking assaulty thingie *bolt action single shot* weapon. With a *"high capacity"* magazine (courtesy of Roger T. Benitez' Freedom Week) ... and what can Cali DOJ do? Nothing. Except provoke annnnnnother high profile court case.
    This thing is genius. It is the usual Franklin middle-finger sass to idiotic gun laws, but with a practical KelTec inspired purpose-driven creativity. It makes the recent dialing in of anti-gun dopes' arguments (re: fully semi-automatic) even more muddled and confused. Every time you pull the trigger, it shoots... yet it remains unloaded after the shot. Like a Bolt action, like a lever-gun. Is a lever-gun okay? Welll, what if I can work the lever with my finger? You sure? ....Here it is! "That's an assault weapon." 🤨
    Anyone who doesn't grasp how sublime this is, might just be a wee bit spoiled, taking liberties for granted in the free states. In Arizona, a true gun state (for now), we are neighbors with California... and the monumental stupidity surrounding everything anti-2A there. You can go from Constitutional Carry to a felony and year-in-prison in the blink of a traffic light. It's not hard to appreciate the clever fuckery of this "magazine-fed single-shot bolt action PCC" in the context of California's illogical, irrational insanity... or for that matter, Virginia--- and mažybe your state soon, too. There is no way this firearm does not change the game legally, assuming a good lawyer... IF Franklin can make and sell them at a fair cost (and if not, then they owe it to America to license and/or allow similar actions to be copied and proliferated).
    Bring it to market, Franklin. Price it at $600-700 street and you have a winner. Price it like the Reformation, and you're over before it even starts. Take a short term loss for a long term, historical forward gain.

      I can agree with your entire thought process on why this design is a good thing...totally in agreement. The one thing that will negate any of that positivity is the plus $1,000.00 price tag that would be likely to come from Franklin Armory.

  • @Paelorian

    I love the concept of the Providence. I want one as a suppressor host in .22LR! A great alternative to lever and pump guns for those of us who want speedy shooting without gas escaping through the action instead of through the suppressor.
    The only downside I expect is (non-mechanical) inaccuracy from a long, heavy trigger and an open-bolt-style forward movement after pulling the trigger before the round us fired. It would be hard but not impossible for shooters to master that. However, there is a familiar way they could deal with the heavy trigger pull: a binary trigger! Pulling the trigger loads the round, releasing it fires. The double-action binary trigger. Breaks each action into separate movements of the finger. I'm surprised I've never seen it one a revolver. Pull to cock, release to fire single-action.
    I'm supposing as mentioned in the video that the design works best with a shorter round. Well, it could be an extremely reliable shotgun that could feed shells of any power, but it might have to take short shells. If they're willing to introduce something weird and niche: a 1¾" chamber minishell-only 12 gauge? There are a lot of minishells on the market now, not just Aguila. I think they've been SAAMI approved. It could be a potent low-recoil/low-power shotgun, an alternative to a 20 or 28 gauge, but with very high capacity in a standard size magazine tube due to the minishells. Or even more out there but better suited for a shotgun with an extremely short chambering, a 10 gauge? A 10ga minishell should have at least the power of a 3" magnum 20ga, I reckon, but could fire larger buckshot efficiently if desired.
    If long shells can be made to work alright, how about a suppressed .410? It would be quite quiet and could cycle powerful or weak loads no problem. It would be great for pest control. You hear some little pest making noise around your property, and you can stop it right away no matter the hour without disturbing the neighbors.
    I suppose one thing at a time. Even if it's got a heavy conventional double-action style trigger and during it's long lock time jerks forward before firing, it will be great as the fastest-firing manual action, about on par with a double-action revolver. Such an action has a lot of potential for the development of interesting firearm concepts.

  • @PikeyScott
    @PikeyScott 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    He said the Providence was also side charging @ 5:00 ? How would that work for a closed bolt, double action? Would the bolt lock back in the open position, resting on the trigger break? Thus open bolt? Interesting. Me thinks a fella could have a fun time playing with a shoe lace and key ring...
    It has a fixed firing pin, so a side-charging handle couldn't be safely used to retract the bolt and reciprocate it into battery. That would make the side charger a really awkward and unsafe trigger. I want to see this interesting baby in person!

    • @tehfranklin
      @tehfranklin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does have a fixed firing pin, and the side charger does lock the bolt back at the point of release. However, the bolt locks when it closes, without a gas system to unlock the bolt, the only way to open it is to pull the trigger with your finger, or pull the side charging handle again. I don't know if it can be "slam fired" like the old shotguns, keep the trigger pulled and just work the side charging handle, I didn't think to ask or try it out when I visited the booth. It would be interesting to see if it worked that way.

      Squid Master it’s not technically open bolt. It fires from a closed, locked breech and the firing pin isn’t fixed. It stays closed and locked after firing until you actuate the bolt with your finger. It’s more like a single shot bolt action, where the bolt is ran by the finger with the rearward motion of the trigger instead of with the whole hand like a traditional bolt action. It’s a big ole middle finger to ban states. I love it. If it’s not priced ridiculously, I’ll be getting one(and I live in a free state) just because I like weird actions

Its the only gun I’ve ever fired worthy of replacing the MP5 (mpx is great, but not so much better, than mp5 especially when considering the fine Swiss manufacturing of an APC platform that handles pretty much every type (9,10,45,556,308... so far for us citizens) of round with its hydraulic buffer system.

      Josh K the Providence is pretty interesting. Yes, as a suppressor host, it’d be great, but the real charm is in its middle finger to ban states. It’s not semi auto by any definition. It’s basically a single shot bolt action. The bolt just happens to be ran by the rearward motion of the trigger. I’d buy one just because I like interesting actions, but this thing could be sold anywhere bolt actions are legal.

    I don't care what anyone says, that providence gun is garbage. I don't care if it's the quietest suppressor host in the world, I don't want my gun going off an unspecified amount of time after the trigger breaks, during which time the bolt actuates and spins then slams a new round in and then finally fires. Exactly how am I supposed to have any degree of accuracy with no discernable breaking point of the trigger (also in a heavy double action pull) and then I ton of inertia moving me off the target I just lined up. 😆👎👎
    And I can build a PSA rifle and put a binary trigger and full auto bolt carrier in it for under $1000 and have a lifetime warranty on a gun and all the parts that I know will work... so I'm good on that too. Like that 'firearm' you can't sell anymore though...

      @@WeAreSoBackBros lol, PSA not wanting to get sued out of existence by communist states like yours doesn't make them anti 2a. Also, not a lawyer and wouldn't ever live in those communist states so not 100% sure, but fairly sure all rifles have to be "featureless" in those states, meaning they couldn't sell you those parts legally if they wanted to. It's a free country, but if you're not willing or capable of moving to a free state, maybe you should stop bitching...

      "Any degree of accuracy"....yes, because there are so many Sub-MOA PCCs right now...
      I know, that isn't what you meant, but you also get the gist of what I am saying.
      Also, what do you mean by "and then I ton of inertia moving me off the target"? I mean, yes, there is going to be some inertia from the bolt slamming forwards, but it is no where near the weight of an old open-bolt, blowback...and people were able to make them work on single shot.
      Obviously the Providence is not likely for you, but that doesn't make it garbage.

      @@dposcuro yes, inertia. You'd need to get on target, pull a long double action trigger and wait for the break... then the bolt has to retract the spent round, chamber a new round and fire as it slams it into place. All of which pull you off target and then fire a round at least a second after the trigger breaks. 😆😆😆 garbage.
      Also, calling it an open bolt is inaccurate. However, if I wanted an open bolt, I'd get a transferable Uzi or MAC 10. It's a free country, you wanna spend hard earned cash on garbage, you go right ahead buddy! 😆😆😆

      @@TheJoker-xw8zg Your viewing comprehension, and reading comprehension leave something to be desired.
      1: If you paid attention, pulling back on the trigger unlocks the bolt, and ejects the cartridge. When it passes the break, the bolt slams forward, chambering the cartridge and firing it. It takes much less than 1 second from break to firing. Yes, there is a delay, probably less than a tenth of a second.
      2: I never did call it an open bolt action. I did compare the weight of a locked breech bolt, to the weight of an old blowback unlocked breech, open bolt SMG. The locked breech of the Providence is going to have a very lightweight bolt in comparison, because it does not rely on weight for anything. In fact, less weight will help it close the bolt faster. A blowback SMG relies on bolt weight and spring pressure for a lot, so the bolts are hefty chunks of steel. Yet people were able to get acceptable accuracy for the time from old SMGs firing single shots, on man sized targets out to 100+ m. You make it sound like you expect this thing to be unable to hit anything past 50 yards.
      With a drastically lighter bolt, the Providence will not have that much inertia throwing off your accuracy. Yes, there will be some, I do not deny that. However, for the purpose of this firearm? No one is expecting sub-MOA accuracy from it, just like no one expects sub-MOA accuracy from any PCC as it is.
      Am I saying it will be a great firearm? No. Am I likely to get one? No. I just think people with obviously wrong understanding of things should have observable facts pointed out to them. Feel free to hate it, I don't care. However, just because you don't like it, doesn't make it garbage.
