- Reckless Abandon is how I start a painting; it's the first step in the Whole Artist Mastery philosophy and painting practice. In this video, I demo Reckless Abandon and share a few other things that help me let loose and explore possibility in a first layer of a painting. #oilpainting #abstractart #paintingprocess

Watching you paint was very exciting for me. I have been so disappointed with my efforts imagining I should begin with a pre conceived structure. I feel liberated after watching you paint and listening to your advice. Thank you Marianne
So glad to hear this Eraine! Hope you are "recklessly Abandoning" in paint now... Cheers to your artistic practice!
Throughout watching you paint I was stuck on the very first step, with what colours to start and then of course you go on to explain that, thanks for another informative and engaging video.
And thank you for your continued interest in the WAM YT channel!
It was enjoyable to see you starting from the white panel. For me, the choice of music makes a huge difference in my mood. I like the jazz piece you chose; it was background music, relaxing and non-invasive. I liked how you used the scraper to apply the paint very quickly to a large area. Thanks!
So glad you found this useful. Music is key to my practice, especially in the first phase of a painting that I call Reckless Abandon, as is the scraper / squeegee more often than not. Thank you for watching and for commenting!
Right at the time (at the end) you were about to begin talking, I had seen an arch of like a flower trellis with in the blue. Medium or Copenhagen like blue. That's above the white clouded area. Embraced by the warmth of the sun's rays and gleams highlighting the clouds that gently yields the darkness. It's gorgeous just like the music notes are played to ease the viewer into the genuine artists vision. How beautifully displayed.
" Whisps in Solitude", is above the puddles of tiers that make up one's life.
Hello! Somehow your comment fell off my radar screen :-)
You words regarding my "Reckless abandon" painting are so expressive of your personal vision of this piece. Very illuminating for me! I love hearing what others see in my work and how that contrasts with what I see. I rarely see "things or places" in my work so it's always fascinating to be told by others that they do see things or places. Many thanks for your lovely comments about my work!
Fascynująca praca! Podziwiałem Cię podczas pracy. Cóż to za żel dodajesz do farb na palecie?
Thank you for your comments! Are you able to send again in enlgish?

Hi Charles, glad to know painting contributes to your wellbeing and enjoyment of life. Me too! Many thanks for commenting...
I think it looks like a sun rise or sunset during a storm, with distant mountains. To me it looks finished, but it is your painting, so continue with what it needs.
Love what you see! And it already is different... stay tuned!
Great, love to see what you created.@@mariannemitchellwholeartis9922
Do you follow the fat over lean rule? You seem to put thick oils paint on immediately. Please could you let me know if this is ok and also what is the gel that you are adding to the paint?
Many thanks.
Hi Rita thanks for checking in here! I do not follow the fat over lean rule. I concluded after some research that it was not necessary to do so, unless of course you expected to be the next Rembrandt and have your paintings be around for 300+ years! I use Gamblin's Solvent Free gel. Cheers to your painting practice...
Hi Marianne - Excellent video thank you.
You asked for thoughts on WAM Wednesday topics and I wondered if you could cover how to bring emotions into the painting. Rothko believed that he could make people feel the emotions that he was feeling - and the fact that people sometimes cry when they see his work suggests that is correct. Do you try to bring your emotions into your work and if so is that a "thought process" or does it just happen whilst you're painting?
Hi Jane! This is a great topic and question about emotions in painting... a very long answer I have and a very short amount of time! SO... new YT topic in the queue... stay tuned!
I noticed that early on your painting rhythm didn't match the music rhythm. The mood in the painting changed too. This method is something I used to do and still do. I love just going with my intuition and no thought or direction. That is how I live my life. Just taking it as it comes and try and create something with whatever comes out. I'm still pulling old paintings out and continuing the painting but in a different energy. Reckless abandon. I like Acrylics more because the dry time is more controllable. I use a lot of matte medium when I paint because it creates that translucence.
Hi Bob! A late reply here as I've been on the road for a bit... thank you for sharing your process here. The music I was listening to in my ears is different than the music you were listening to while watching me paint! Your comment brings a thought that the music I am listening to should be the music the viewer is listening to as well! I was listening to the Allman Brothers, Van Morrison, and Rolling Stones... and more!
Eh.
