Michael Baughman I think depression is more complicated then anger turned inward but I do agree, it’s a great part of it. Also, it’s very individual and a very dark hole once someone slips and falls into it.
It's how authoritarian dictatorships work, turn the population against itself and then they become more afraid of each other than what the government is doing. Very apt topic.

Fdr was working tirelessly to protect the livelihoods of Americans on a civil rights level.
It was assurance that so long as we were willing to work, his policies would find work for us.

But, the sentiment is applicable in a wider context in that fear of difference; of the other; of what we don't know or understand should be a starting point to learn and enlighten our minds and adapt to new challenges rather than resort to despising or hating or withdrawing into isolation.
Fear isn't something only applicable to one context in one instance but is a universal and natural defense mechanism.

However, I know I'm not the only one who has no hope of actually escaping it. You know what the my nightmare is, having to try and figure out how to bring my wife, or mother, or cousins, or aunt from the brink of despair after a rape. Watching them descend into hell and knowing that no matter what happens, they will never be the same person they were before when/if they come out of it. That is something to be afraid of and worry about. That is what men should be worried about and not being falsely accused of rape.

Other times they are sincerely warning you about something frightening so you can take action to protect yourself, your loved ones, your neighbors.
Whatever Star Wars might have said, fear is, in and of itself, just a neutral alarm bell that must be interpreted to be useful.
For a very topical instance: all these fools who think masks and social distancing are an attempt to scare the population into some kind of subjugation, believe exactly what you just said (and now those states are causing spikes during what should be a period of relief before the fall second wave.)

My brother told me that my meds are a placebo effect, my mom told me that she was on meds a long time ago and then got pregnant with me and had to go off of them, and she said that she, “ Just told myself that I didn’t need them,” and my dad told me that I checked myself into a hospital because I wanted attention and I didn’t want to have to do chores and stuff. Some people- even those we love- just have their heads up their asses.

Honestly, don't cover tracks, go to another state, let them come for you. Then fight the case on the basis that the law is over reaching when it says you can't do something that is legal elsewhere. It would be like going to Colorado legally smoking pot then going home and getting arrested by your local police department because it is illegal in your state. You didn't break the laws of where you were at the time you performed the action, so no crime was committed. Fight it all the way to the Supreme Court and force a decision to be made on whether your state laws apply when out of the jurisdiction of those laws.

Witchcraft is a practice. You can be witch and not a wiccan. Take voodoo practioners for example, you wouldn't call them wiccan, but you could label the practice of voodoo, a form of witchcraft, but could also stand as a religion all it's own. Also you generalize witches as uniquely women. Again witchcraft is a practice, of which, any gender can partake in. Witch is a non-gendered term. So you can be a witch but also identify as a man. Although some male witches prefer to be recognized by other terms such as magician, wizard, or the ever controversial term of Warlock. Women may also chose to identify as any of these terms. Any labels a magick practitioner may choose to go by typically goes part and parcel with the form of witchcraft they choose to practice I.e. Green Witch, Astral Witch, Eclectic Witch, Chaos Magician, Weather Wizard etc. In summation, to each their own. Merry Meet and Blessed Be.

Edward Bernays explains how easily some are manipulated by fear. The conservative brain has a larger amygdala, and therefore more likely to have a primitive fight or flight respinse.

I'm half mexican in Canada and BC of the ties Canadian conservatives have to Americans I recently started hearing the fear mongering about immigrants more and when I respond "I'm mexican" I get the classic "I'm not talking about mexicans like you I'm talking about those other mexicans."
In Canada and America immigrants specifically those from brown countries are witches. Me being white I'm suddenly not a witch when I tell them I'm part of their witch group BC I don't fit the mould.
I really wish my teachers had done that witch exercise with my peers. Maybe my relatives wouldn't be going through their own Salem RN if they had.

I normally only put sources for things that are really hard to find online. When I first started, the logic seemed sound (encourage people to fact check everything). I may need to revisit this policy.

But what Alabama just did is make it so that if the state cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a person committed rape, whether that be because the state contaminated the evidence or violated procedure in any way that would lead to one person on the jury deciding there is reasonable doubt, the victim would go to jail. How is that a reasonable response to this?

My understanding is it should function that first, the accusation of rape fails for sufficient evidence. Then, if the defendant accused has evidence to a claim of malicious litigation, they can reverse charges.
Keep in mind, it sounds harsh to threaten a person with 10 years for lying, and it kind of is... But a false accusation of rape, if inflicted, *carries a life sentence on the sex offender list* which decides where a person can live, work, and who they can talk to. It is a harsh life, and deservedly so. Sex crimes are some of the most heinous violations of trust that can be committed inside a community. If a dog bites once, maybe they'll bite again.
The sad thing though, is that actual rapists, which can be loved members of the community, tend to have an entourage willing to lie for them to create an alibi. So the odds are stacked against victims.
At the very least, measures should enable the understanding that two people absolutely do not want to see each other.
It's a difficult case to charge somebody when the only proof is a first account testimony.
Of course, it would be possible to have cameras everywhere and such; almost everybody carries a wireless microphone and camera in their pocket these days. It'd be a huge shift to live in a world where we know we're always being watched. Two sides to that though, we have the freedom to be better people, because hurtful actions are intervened on. But we also feel the strain of occasionally being reminded that our only secrets are in our minds.

I can't think of the concept of fear and paranoia without thinking of Michael Moore's movie "BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE". He touched on the "fear of the other" very well. Too often, we fear too much the things we shouldn't and don't fear enough the things we should. Never let up fighting for "... a more perfect union".

Guilty as charged, Jan - I'm a Trekkie, thank you very much, and yes I've been part of most of those groups at one time or another (excpt the Renfaire - such a rip-off), but I've also been a lot of other things too. I'm kind of a conundrum that way. Just when someone thinks they've got me figured out and pigeonholed here comes some wacky non-sequitur that throws them for a loop. Go figure.
@@janeenharris3074 Renfairies (never heard them called that) are people who go to (or work at) the Renaissance festivals. Scadians are members of a group called the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and are medieval reenactors. Basically the Renfaire lets you watch the fighters and the shows for a few weeks during the year and the SCA lets you become a fighter and be part of the show year round.

I used to be skeptical on clicking on your videos but I'm glad I came here. You seem like a very wise man and it's good that people can hear from you. I often think we should have let the South cecede from our union.
That would be like feeding the cancer in an already unfortunately ill country. We have to fight the good fight. Who wants them to secede and enslave more victims? There are southerners still threatening black families with brutality and slavery.
What are the actual statistics on the rates of false accusations versus genuine accusations of sexual assault? I've seen a few different figures and they all seem to indicate the majority of accusations are genuine, the numbers seem to hover between 4.5 percent to 5.2 percent of the total accusations being proven false. Further, the figures I've seen for the number of rapes reported in general range from 5 to 33 percent of the total.
This means that at the most, if the numbers are accurate -of the 33 percent of the rapes that are actually reported- 95 percent are legitimate reports.
It scares me to think about the other 67 percent or more who never step forward for whatever reason.
I'm not a woman or a victim of a rape, which makes it very difficult for me to understand the circumstances in which a woman or a victim of a rape might not want to step forward. I would prefer not to go with generalities and vague cliches to explain the phenomena. To that end I tend to defer to the experiences of a coworker who was violently raped in her teens and how she chose not to come forward for the reasons she did. Those being the knowledge of what was waiting for her at home, at school, and at the police station in the form of societal condemnation of her.
I will say false accusations of any sort are a problem. I just don't think they are a pressing enough problems to go the extent the state of Alabama is courting.

I looked into this hard. Realistic estimations using real science range between 2 and 9 percent. The one I thought had the best methodology was 6%.
The 2% stat comes from taking that study and accounting for the 67% of unreported assaults. The problem is that figure comes from a self reported study. They're notoriously inaccurate. While most data backs up the figures from it, I as a general rule don't buy studies on controversial topics using that method of getting data.
@@BeauoftheFifthColumn It's a shame there isn't a more definitive study on it. However, its an equal shame that even if such a thing were to exist, I highly doubt it would have a meaningful impact on the "conversation" as it exists today.
I too have a difficult time accepting self-reporting and anonymous internet surveys as useful collectors of good data.

Regardless of the actual number of false report incidents, albeit undeniably minuscule, the fact remains that this proposed law exacerbates the true tragedy manifesting in this vile deplorable act - under reporting! This bill breathes life into the primary threat abusers tell their victims - 1) No one will believe you, and 2) You'll be in trouble if you tell. Anyone who proposes such a flagrantly deleterious legislation is either woefully ignorant, or a violator; neither of which should be in *ANY* position of power!
