I simply got an extra lens cover, cut a hole in the front and I simply used sticky putty to fix an ND filter to it and use it like that and it works great...
I just got one of these yesterday. Excellent lens, sharpness and depth of field is incredible at all apertures. I'm old school enough to remember when manual lenses were pretty much all that existed, so no problems for me using the Rokinon 14mm. On my Canon 5D, I can use Live View for focusing using the camera's LCD or the 5" Feelworld monitor (which has a focus peaking option) that I normally use for video work.
Having to manually focus doesn’t bother me but you need to have good vision imgs.love/RokinonLens or wear your glasses/contacts. I use this for weather, architecture, landscapes, family portraits, and sometimes even birth photography. I need more equipment for astrophotography but that is on my list.
Unfortunately mine just died after 6 years. I loved this lens for landscape and Astro. Worked great on my Nikon and adapted to my Sonys, but something came loose inside and the barrel shifts back and forth. Camera shop advised that this lens is sealed and isn't manufactured to be able to repair internally. I am about to buy another one though. Still cheaper than $2k for the Nikon version.
If you want to use this lens for videography, there's a cine version of it with smooth aperture, for no clicking and smooth lighting. Optically it's the same lens.
Thanks for turning me on to this lens. It looks like the picture quality is great for the price. I will use it for still photography so it being a manual lens doesn't bother me. It's not the kind of lens for sports or fast action so taking a little more time for manual adjustments isn't a problem.
Never tried astro-photography hmm.....you really should, take a picture of a dark night sky with an 400 iso and a 5 to 10 min exposure with a polar aligned equatorial mount and BOOM, the beautiful milky way in all its glory, yet completely invisible to the naked eye....incredible!
It is AWESOME for astrophotography. I've been using it mostly for that. Super sharp, but it has some distorsion and vigneting, which I'm ok with. Try it, you'll love it. Oh, and very nice review.
I just bought (used one) SAMYANG 14mm f/2.8 for my SONY ZV-E10, and I'm trying to make some settings for vlogging... 1st problem I had is about that lens is not compatible, and I fixed it, after that 2nd problem is like when I move from a side to a side (while filming) the image kinda late, and now It works properly (happened for like 5 min) . So I would like to know what could it be, and what settings You recommend for vlogging on my SONY ZV-E10 with this amazing lens. Thank You.
I have this lens, was going to sell it when I got a 16-35mm lens but then looked at used prices. FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR worth more than $200 CAD to me so I keep it and never use it. But when I do use it. WOW.
Not bad with an APSC format either... I shoot with both full frame A7iii and crop sensor A6600 - the Samyang gives me a very useful 21mm equivalent on the crop camera and the corner sharpness actualy improves...
I loved your review and wanted to say thank you! I just bought the lens instead of getting a zoom. I don't really need a zoom. But id didn't want to sacrifice the depth by getting an F4 lens. So thanks again. You are a top geezer. A TOP geezer

@@nhqbill Yeah, if I shoot in darker places I might go up to iso 800 and the lens at f2.8. If I’m outside or in a well lit place I use iso 400 and use the lens around f4 to get a sharper image. Try not to go much higher than iso 800, as the image might get grainy... ;)
Fantastic Review as always! I recently purchased the Samyang 14mm RF mount with auto focus and it has pretty much lived on my EOS R for the last 3 weeks on all my architectural shoots. I ended up reviewing it in real world scenario on my channel.
I normally hate manual focus but I did try it a few times on my old Panasonic GH5 and the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 lens using manual focus mode and focus peaking and it was easy with focus peaking. I now have a Nikon Z6II and have this actual lens in my wish list already it is a lens even a while ago I was looking to buy simply because the reviews of it were excellent and sample photos were truly lovely. I'll be using the lens mainly inside museums because some museums are small and so a very wide angle is needed. I know this Samyang lens has a field of view of 115 degrees on a full frame camera.
Yeah, I use it a lot on my older Sony 6300 with focus peaking. My 1dx mk ii hasn’t got peaking, so I usually use an external monitor that has peaking. Anyway, I’m very happy with the image quality of the Rokinon and use it all the time! I’m sure you’re gonna crush it in the museums ;)

I have a question about this lens. When the f stop is all the way down to 2.8, you can only film it with a specific subject in front, right? I recently purchased this lens and tried to do some budget real estate video with it and when I’m filming indoor, I have f stop 2.8, everything is extremely out of focus. That’s what confusing me about this lens...
Hey Teddy! Sounds strange. I think it might be a focus issue. Even though you shoot at f2.8 it should be in focus. The focus pull is very long on this lens, as I mentioned in the video. Also, the infinity focus might not be where the focus ring stops, but a few mm before the stop. Try and investigate this and let me know if it helps. :)
Cool video!!! I'm torn between getting the 14mm or the 18mm 2.8, never had any lens wider that 24mm so I don't know how is it going to look like, any thoughts on this? Thanks!
Thanks! They’re both pretty wide. I can only speak for the 14mm, which I use more often than I thought I would! Also, I’d imagine the 18mm would be more similar to a 24mm (obviously). I guess it all comes down to what look you want. The difference between a 24mm and 14mm is enormous, but that’s why I fell in love with it ;)
Thanks for the reply! I guess I'll have to find a way to test them both to decide! Do you feel it is difficult to frame with the 14mm? Since it's so wide? Used it for landscapes? Does the sky and ground look way too big?
@@idharudharkibkar5717 Well, it depends on how much you move the camera. It’s up to you to keep it the same distance and many vloggers actually prefer to keep it on manual so the lens doesn’t keep on guessing what to focus on. With some practice, manual focus might be the way to go ;)
