I watched a video by a very famous photographer recently where he was asked about portraiture for beginner photographers, and he used a 100mm 1.8 lens in his explanation. The only thing I thought throughout the video was: what new photographer is going to own that lens right off the bat? Your video is much more sensible, and it deserves more views.
I agree, I just got my nikon d3400 and been watching videos all over TH-cam for like an intro for beginners and THIS IS THE MOST USEFUL AND INFORMATIVE ONE.
This gentleman needs his own television show. The clarity about how he explains the most complex things is almost an art form. Let me go and get my kit lens and leave some of these expensive lens home🤣😎. Lol
He is probably not that much wrong in some cases. I had for years a 18-55mm kit lens (the time before IS or STM was in them!), all the other lenses i had were prime macros, a telezoom and so... not really a lens which could replace the "standard" focal range of the kit. So despite having a few more expensive lenses, i often used only the kit lens because the other ones had more or less special cases i didnt need at this events. But looking behind - i guess its still (next to a fast, cheap 50mm prime) somehow needed at the point you know you like photography that you search as fast as possible for a kit lens replacement. Doesnt have to be any 24-70 L or so, but at least something with better IS and proper USM, bigger aperture (with probably more blades) and if possible better imaging quality than the kit. I personally still am looking (since nearly 10 years, lol) for a proper "universal" lens with a useful variety anywhere between 15-80mm and GOOD imaging quality, upgraded already twice (first to a 28-105 USM, then a 28-135 IS USM) but these lenses are barely better than the kit lens (when it comes to image quality, anything else is "superior" like superfast AF, more zoom, bigger aperture, etc)
Nice to see someone not telling the beginner to invest in lenses but to improve by investing in taking images to build experience & understanding. Clarity of explanation, even after 30yrs of semi-pro photography I felt I understood stuff even better!!

@@RobertRodriguez19 It really depends on what you want to shoot as to which lens you invest in next. For wildlife photographers, a good telephoto lens is key. The intense of an Aperture is not to regulate blur background. It's about letting more or less light through the lens onto the image sensor. Of course, this effects the background when focusing on subjects within the infinity range. I was missing the explenation of the focal length in relation to croped sensors, useful for beginners to know. But all the explanations are useful for an everyday hobby photographer in every case, because not everbody wants to learn all the technical things behind it. Thumbs up

For portrait photographers, perhaps a 35mm or 50mm prime lens would be useful. For landscape photographers, perhaps a wide angle lens. I think its best to decide what kind of photos you want to create and then choose a lens which can get you doing just that :)
@@PhotographyPro thank you very much, I think the 50mm would a be my choice since I would be doing portrait photography. But there would be cases where I might need to shoot kind of landscape thanks for your recommendations 😊
@@RobertRodriguez19 You are very welcome! A 50mm lens can also work well for a more close up landscape shot so it does sound like a good choice :)
I'm really love this guy personality 😁
It seems that I've been a newbie photographer for about 8 years now hahahaha... I love the way Mark takes the time to explain what's happening inside my camera and now even with this short video, I think my pictures are going to turn out a whole lot better.
With that being said I'm going to join up just so I can better understand the photo jargon and also what my settings are for. I only have an Olympus e-520 but it's been great for what I've been doing so far.
Thanks Mark your patience in teaching is second to none and I look forward to seeing more instructional vid's
Merry Christmas from Vancouver Island Canada everyone.

Merry Christmas!
Thumbs up
This video is just an advertisement. Anyone who wants to learn more must buy the course/book the guy is selling.
Finally! A video I can watch with one eye :D

I get good images with my kit lens all the time.
Thank you for taking your time with us beginners.
I have a Pentax 18 TO 55 mm and it's amazing , great for everything.
This was absolutely amazing. Thank you for this educational video.
I want to say thank you for uploading this video. I have been using a point and shoot for many years and now I have just purchased my first DSLR nikon 3500 with a kit lens 18 to 55. I have been watching other photography videos and the were featuring this lens. However all they could do was talk down on the lens because it was so "cheap". I am still learning photography and this camera was a big investment. Those videos made me feel pretty low for buying such a lens. Your video was so much uplifting and I felt good again for getting the camera. The camera will be here in two days and I'm very excited. Thank you again.

I'm very happy since I discovered your TH-cam channel and great videos. I got a Panasonic lumix dmc fz50 as a gift and had no clue how to use it. After using a simple Nikon COOLPIX for years I was left in a total blur.
Since I learn from you my camera isn't on Auto mode and became my best partner during outdoor shootings. It's really fun to apply what I learned. Thanks for making things simpler. 🙂
Finally, found the best tutor 😍. Loved the ideas shared. Thank you !
Who else wants to test these but have no kit lens left
But you can now buy these used for VERY reasonable prices. YAY
Bravo, young man. Educational in a very soothing approach.
Just bought my first DSLR bundle the other day. This video helped tremendously in understanding key concepts and functions of the kit lenses that came with the bundle. Thanks, and here's a sub.
That's great to hear, Christian!
Very lucid and clear explanation. Helpful indeed for any level of photography.
Easy to understand, you explain it perfectly
Hiii!!!! I think this the only channel that gave me the best. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
"You don't have to get the most expensive lens."
Every photographer on TH-cam : buys the most expensive lens possible then complains about the qualitiy.
Thank you bro
The way you explain things is really good. Thank you

You are a perfect teacher as well😍
Glad you think so!
The Nikon 18-140 kit lens is an amazing tool capable of stunning results be they nature , portrait ,automotive or even airshows , it really is a dream lens ,which covers what was an old fashioned ,full frame super-zoom (28-200 mm ) , lens range .IMHO, For those who own a APS-C format DSLR Nikon camera , there is no other worthy option in terms of cost and versatility .
Good teacher ! Tks so much .
This is one of the best videos I've seen on this specific lens. Thank you!!
