Caller discusses doubting Thomas in scripture and makes assumptions about people accepting evolution and what he calls Darwinists. The hosts then talk about the evidence for evolution. The discussion bogs down on the peer reviewed science, the caller calls just claims, whereas the hosts point out everyone can replicate the claims and the experiments.

@@paulieforsythe4801 I’d have to rewatch, but if I recall they outlined the basics, if he’s seeking more in-depth information then he should be asking people who are qualified. While I’m passionate about science, evolution isn’t relevant to atheism and the hosts aren’t experts.
Further, he really just kept repeating him self, he didn’t engage with any of the information, he just dismissed everything and asked what the “proof” was.
The world has moved on, we understand evolution at an intimate level and it’s helped propel science and medicine. This man benefits from it, even though he doubts it.
This guy is not a doubting Thomas. He’s a child making childish arguments.

His whole incredulous argument in a nutshell is basically, "I don't understand, so not true".

The apologists do that exactly so they can create a false equivalency to make scientific discoveries look like a religion.

C: But these are claims, I'm Doubting Thomas, I want to see the actual evidence.
E: Ok, here's the methods they used so you can replicate the findings.
C: But I don't have the skills to replicate these claims you've made. I'm Doubting Thomas, I want to put my fingers in the holes.
E: Well, we could go and look at the fossils, if that helps.
C: Sure.
E: Here's a piece that's been dated as around 300 million years old.
C: Why is it in a glass case where people can't touch it? I'm Doubting Thomas, I want to touch it and find out for myself.
E: Surely you understand that this is a fragile piece of prehistory and an untrained person could irrevocably damage it.
C: But I'm Doubting Thomas, is your Darwin afraid I'll find something?
E: I guess a small inspection could be allowed. Here, touch it but make it quick.
C: I tried to find a hole to put my finger in because I'm Doubting Thomas but it crumbled into dust.
E: What?! That was a priceless fossil with years of research to be gained from it!
C: I'm Doubting Thomas, you can't judge me for trying to find things out and being reasonable, isn't that what your science teaches? Are you against science?
E: Oh this is gonna net me so much trouble.
C: Guess without evidence your Darwinism is now bunk huh. I could show you my church and the truths we hold. The actual hard truths, none of these fragile cyanseez.

It’s spoiled entitlement. He’s been told everything revolves around him and his personal feelings, so he feels entitled to have that same god-like authority!
When you mention they actually have to DO SOME WORK they get angry because they’ve never had to do any work! So they assume that like them, everyone else is just making everything up as they go!
When you ask them how they think the device they are using was made by being a “doubting Thomas” they just ignore it because they just see the practical applications of science as technology are just simple toys that were created through magic one day!

As Matt has pointed out many times, if you have issues with evolution then why are you calling an atheist show? The fact that they equate atheism and evolution is a perfect example of how their thinking is just wrong from the start.

He's like - "I have this book and you have your books. Both books are same because I am fucking lazy and stupid to read your books, so I am just going to half-ass my understanding of your books and dismiss them"
It’s interesting, isn’t it, that, even though he doesn’t explicitly admit this, he is dismissing out of hand everything the opponents offer him as “just claims; I can’t see the evidence myself” even when methodologies and replicability literally disprove this argument-yet he expects us to suspend the same level of skepticism against his ultimate argument which is Christianity, and which really is comprised of just claims, with no replicable methodologies.
The difference is that he gets passages from his book read aloud and 'interpreted' to him every Sunday, whereas scientific papers he'd have to read and understand himself.
@@ZhangK71 Also, scientific findings he doesn't agree with are 'just claims', but what's the bet he'd change his tune if there was a scientific study *supporting* something he believes (say, the flood, or or anti-LGBT or anti-abortion or whatever), then suddenly that paper would be irrefutable proof.

@Tyler B. Atheism is simply a response to an assertion or claim of theism. Atheism is the null hypothesis which asserts that an affirmative proposition must meet a burden of proof before the proposition can be accepted as true. The theist is making an affirmative claim, and with any affirmative claim, the null hypothesis states that the affirmative claim must not be accepted as true until such time as the person making the claim meets his burden of proof with the provision of sufficient evidence.
Except Chris hasn’t personally put his hands on Jesus’ wounds, has he? So he’s believing a claim he read in a book just like any “Darwinist or whatever you want to call yourselves.” Sure, no hypocrisy there. Or passive aggressive dickishness.

I always love when their own logic is thrown back at them, and they have no response.
One has no evidence, the second does. One requires belief, the second requires evidence. You believe whatever you want, and you’re right, I don’t care.
That’s not logic, it’s just saying that people who believe in gods have absolutely no way to demonstrate it so they have to rely on ignorance of reality.
This isn’t a personal issue. It’s factual. Problem is people who believe in gods do so because they’ve been told to, so they’re too lazy to actually do any fact checking!
The caller boiled down to “this is hard for me to understand so I’m going to rely on ignorance and obedience to dogma!
Meanwhile if evolution wasn’t real we would have the field of modern genetics. But again people who are proud to say that they’re sheep don’t care about the facts of a matter, just about how they feel.
People have said “they don’t care if the world is flat or a sphere” while they demand that everyone believe it without doing any work. People don’t believe in gods because the ones who say we should utterly refuse to even attempt a demonstration of what a “god” is because it’s personal to them.
So it’s a caller saying he doesn’t care about what’s true.
The incredible thing about Evolution is that it DOES NOT require my belief. It doesn't require ANY belief.
This is a great example of conflating two different forms of "believe."
Chris doesn't understand the difference between facts and claims. But he is sure that regardless of if it is a fact or claim, he feels far more comfortable with his willful ignorance.
Because he thinks he "can't be wrong", he knows all "the truth". 😂

We don’t need a society full of people that can all understand scientific papers and the wherewithal to replicate the results.
The serious problem is the segment of society that don’t have the wherewithal yet actively reject science in favour of nonsense, while having done nothing to properly investigate the topic.
Not knowing something is no problem at all. Knowing nothing and believing you know more than all the experts and actively rejecting demonstrable facts is the height of arrogance.

The irony in him asserting everything is a claim yet thinks a 2000 year old book which is full of claims, is sufficient evidence for his god. You can’t make this shit up.
Yeah he's either lying or confused about being some virtuous and honest person requesting the necessary evidence before accepting Evolution. He's saying he's taking the position of Doubting Thomas and wanting evidence, but that's just a façade because his real objective is to make his point that there isn't any actual evidence for Evolution and that the host's are hypocrites who are biased and they should stop disrespecting believers by demanding they meet a standard that the hosts don't impose on themselves. Those rejected peer review papers, who does the caller think it was who found the flaws and got them rejected, it was other scientists following the peer reviewed paper and discovering flaws in it which they then revealed most likely in another peer reviewed paper.

Doubting Thomas wanted to see the holes in Jesus's hands and the piercing in his side as convincing evidence. Scientific, peer reviewed papers provide exactly that. They provide the best available verified evidence.

Nah I dont think he's lying, he's just kinda dumb. There are many people who simply DO NOT UNDERSTAND scientific methods and principles. They never had any education in the field, and they're too lazy or busy to go learn it. I completed a B.S. in Psychology, not an advanced degree or anything, but it was a real eye-opener for me in terms of understanding REAL and VALID methods of investigation and truth-seeking. If I hadn't done that, there's a good chance I would be just as clueless as Chris here.
I think some people may not be aware that evolution is the most tested and scrutinized theory ever!!! Mainly because of religions being so desperate to falsefy it. So I guess thanks to theist for making it the most tried tested and true theory in all of the sciences making it the cornerstone of biological sciences. Thanks "theist"& religion, we owe u one.😋😋😋

The Bible portrays Jesus responding to Thomas by acknowledging his insistence upon evidence as valid, and then directly providing physical evidence. Apparently every Christian since disagrees with Jesus.
Jesus immediately follows up with the statement: "Blessed are the gullible," or something to that effect.

We do have Doubting Thomases in regards to Evolution. We call them scientists.
He claims to want to put his fingers in the holes but when they told him he can actually do the work that proves Evolution he says he can't do that. But yes he can he just doesn't want to.

The hosts could have handled this call much better by giving examples of science that creationists do believe, like the germ theory of disease, atomic theory, gravity, plate tectonics etc., that is also similarly based on claims of scientific testing.

Using the terms “Darwinist” and “Evolitionist” show one thing - you’ve done utterly insufficient reading into the topic you want to discuss. If the caller is going to be this lazy, I’m not sure I’d waste my time on them until they’d lifted a finger beyond just calling in.
Saying that, I’d have definitely dropped him by about minute 5 as, by this stage, he’s shown such a blindingly obviously level of dishonesty that he can just take a running jump. He’s just another theist lying for his so-called god. It’s pathetic.

When Matt explains how if the earth is only 4000 years old - evolution is impossible - Chris responds saying that is just a claim. No - it is a fact - evolution would be impossible in that time scale - and it is exactly what young earth creationists are arguing for.

EVOLUTION EXPLAINED SIMPLY...
This is how it works:
Picture a long wall with photos hanging on it. The first picture is of YOU. The next picture is of your father (or, feel free to substitute mother/mothers) - who certainly resembles you, but not exactly. The next picture is of your father’s father (your grandfather) and then a picture of his father, and so on & so forth - picture after picture of successive fathers.
Now, this is a VERY long wall stretching for miles & miles - covered with photos successive fathers and ALL of them ancestors of YOU.
Walk down along the wall 20-30 generations and you’ll notice that the people pictured all still strongly resemble you generally (though maybe not so you’d necessarily recognize a “family resemblance”). And, while you’d certainly call them “human”, but you might notice that they’re typically a bit shorter than you and your father. But, obviously, they’re still pictures of “people”, and if you had a time machine and travelled back to meet that generation, you (as a modern human) would certainly be capable of successfully mating with others in your ancestor’s town or village.
Now, keep walking down that wall of YOUR fathers for about 10,000 generations. You’ll notice that the pictures no longer resemble YOU as much as they used to. You’ll notice that the subjects are typically hairier than you and maybe a little hunched. If you travelled back to this time, you may not be able to successfully breed with members of your ancestor’s tribe or group. This circumstance WILL be true at some point along the wall.
Keep going down the wall looking at successive pictures and you will reach a point where you would find yourself wanting to call the ancestors in the photos “apes”. They will not look exactly exactly like a modern apes (who, themselves, have evolved independently to fit their environments, even though photos of THEIR fathers might converge a cousin of the ancestor who’s photo you are currently looking at - and WILL eventually converge at some ancestor of YOURS).
Now, here’s where I blow your mind. Keep going down and down along this wall of YOUR ancestors past several MILLION of YOUR fathers’ fathers … and you’ll be looking a photos of FISH!!
At any given visible span along the wall in any direction, children will resemble their immediate parents and definitely be part of their species. But, over great distances (in time & generations), the minor differences in traits from parent to offspring will add up to such a degree where the some of YOUR ancestors are clearly across a species barrier from you, and eventually whole Genus, Family, Class, Phylum, etc … barriers get crossed.
There is no place along the wall that you could rationally draw a line between two adjacent photos and claim that a new species started with THIS specific ancestor of yours.
Each child is part of his parent’s species. You can ONLY tell that it happened gradually across a wide, WIDE band of your ancestors when you compare photos that are miles apart on the wall.
So, there was no Adam & no Eve. No “first human”. No baby that was a “human

Darwinism IS a word. Darwinist IS NOT a word. Darwinism is not even used contemporarily now, except by dishonest asshats trying to denegrate evolution by putting it equal to the original incomplete theory with all its flaws from the 1800's. We've grown and learned so much since the Darwinism of the 1800's to the point where it's not applicable to use the term.

This is why when anyone uses that term I don't take them seriously and I know they're being dishonest. And when they use the term "Darwinist", the are without a doubt propagandists and literally incapable of having an honest conversation. It's the equivalent of coming up to us and saying "so you believe in :air quotes:EVOLUTION:air quotes: huh?". You've already shown yourself to be an uneducated imbecile, not worthy of conversation.

Yes, scientific communication is a claim. One that follows some protocol, but still a claim. But this is this is quite simple. You can: A) ask a scientist to make the experiments while you watch; B) get a proper degree and scientific career, then replicate the experiments as published.
Don't argue with stupid people. Try going and genuinely studying evolutionary biology. His whole linguistic approach demonstrates that he's already decided it's a belief not evidential. It's going to be extraordinarily difficult for this man to remove himself from his intellectual inhibition.
Maybe Matt should shut down any call about evolution, big bang theory, or any science in fact, if the caller doesn't make it clear from the get go how it is related to the subject of the show i.e. the reason to believe or not in a god. This is called the "atheist experience", not the "theory of evolution experience".
At no stage in the preceding discussion did the caller even come close to understanding the concepts of "peer-reviewed," "logical fallacy," or even "science".

That’s one thing that drives me crazy is trying to get theists understand that my atheism has absolutely nothing to do with the theory of evolution. I grew up in a very Christian family who made sure that I never learned about evolution in school. I had read the entire bible over and over again by the time I was an adult and it is the Bible itself that caused me to stop believing. From countless obvious contradictions in the Bible, to immorality and slavery in the Old Testament, to every apologist having terrible arguments, one day I realized that not only did I have no good reason to believe the Bible, but I had plenty of reasons not to.
