    Some farms do it for there rations. If he is feeding his oats to his dairy cattle then he gets the grain and also straw for bedding. My grandfather grew wheat and oats because he mixed oats in his rations for hogs. Wheat he grew for the straw and manure ground.

    Not trying to be critical but wouldn't have been a better idea to take the combine out of the drive shed to unload the oats and avoid all the dust inside ? Just saying , but good video though keep them rolling

    I am curious; do you use then same combine for wheat, corn, oats and beans, just different heads? Or are there specific combines? Thanks, love the vlog.

    I believe it was 13,000 and 2300. Or maybe it was 8,000 and 2300. I didn't receive the slips and I only looked at the scale when I left.

    Another great video. I hate backing up those trailers with a steering axle like on the grain wagon. I was wondering how you got paid for the oats that you sell? Do you just walk in and they give you cash or a check?

  • @HowFarmsWork

    Wonder why the grain elevator doesn't just weigh the tractor and loaded wagon? It would seem that once you weighed the whole rig again the smaller weight could be subtracted from the larger weight and you would have the figure for the weight of the oats.

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I did at 2:00, but the weight of the tractor wasn't required because the resting weight on the hitch is constant.

      You guys just seem to have a good relationship and a good farming operation too. My knowledge of farming comes from selling JD parts and also from watching the farm operations on my Uncle's 3000 acre row crop farm here in East Central Georgia. I tell you that so that you will understand my questions better and understand my perspective. Corn, cotton and peanuts are the three main crops on the farm. Those crops are what I know a little about. Subsoilers are prevalent over deep bottom plowing for planting. I know you have corn because of your videos but I'm also sure that I won't see you guys in a cotton or peanut field. As always I look for your videos daily. Thanks for posting them for all of us.

      +How Farms Work that platform is called a scale and down here in Tennessee that what we call it.

  • @awd3264
    @awd3264 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Any body who wants to understand why what crops are planted on a dairy farm might try goggling dairy farm crop rotation.
    Oats besides being used to sublimate the food rations allows you to plant next years hay crop at the same time as you plant the oats. You can't do that with wheat.

    im not trying to tell you guys what to do because im not a farmer . but wouldn't be less expensive to by a semi with a 35 foot or 45 foot uloading trailer so you can haul all of your different type of grains then you aren't driving the tractors with the trailers on the road and having a less chance of getting into a accident just my 002 worth
