How to Set Up Radio (TX16s/T18) Joystick on Windows 10 to work with the Hottest New Simulator: Wings

  • When you connect an OpenTx radio to Windows 10 as a joystick, the wrong driver is selected. This video shows how to correct that problem. After the joystick is setup, I cover how to configure the radio to work with a flight simulator.
    With the radio ready to work as a joystick, I show how to use it in the newly released Wings FPV Racing Simulator.

    I bought "Wings" a couple of weeks ago right after it first came out. I really like it. I am looking forward to more aircraft being added as well as more maps. I just wish they could extend the flying range for long range FPV flights. Setting up my TX16S was easy with this one and it works well with all of my simulators as well.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need a dongle for the TX16s. Just plug USB-C into top of radio, other end into PC and away you go. Wings should see it straight away.

    • @janspoelstra8309
      @janspoelstra8309 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct, you have to use the USB-C port. Getting Win10 to recognize it as a game controller proved quite an ordeal; after hours of increasing frustration, it turned out to be the software on the radio tha messed things up. When prompted you get two choices: 1) USB access and 2) use as joystick. Option 2) was not recognised by Win10.... Googling the issue, I came accross the fact the two options are swapped in the latest software update of OpenTx. No wonder it didn't work. When I picked option 1), Windows immediately recognized it. Go figure...

    Struggling to make this happen. No options shown here are available. Windows can't find a driver. I loaded a LISBUS driver creator. Windows won't allow their driver to be installed. Don't know if this is an update caused issue, A product ID issue or what. I don't necessarily expect you to know either. Has pretty much rendered this radio useless. I suspect no help from "radio master". I haven't given up quite yet. I've heard this complaint on a few forums now.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The radio is known to work with Windows. If it doesn't work in your instance there is likely something else at play. Radiomaster isn't in the business of desktop support. There are a couple of PD things you can do:
      1) Try a different cable.
      2) Make sure you're selecting Joystick. If you're not being prompted for Joystick, change your system settings so you are.
      3) Make sure your OTX version is the latest. In a recent release of OTX they added a unique USB ID that makes most USB issues go away.
      4) Try it on a different computer to validate your hardware.
      5) Turn off any anti-virus while you test.
      I can assure you having connected my TX16s to Windows 10 Laptop #1, Windows 10 Desktop, Windows 10 Laptop #2, Windows 11 Desktop, and Windows 11 Laptop #1 that the radio works fine. You have something else stopping you.

      Appreciate the feedback Steve I really do. I tell my kids the same thing when it comes to money--better 10% of $10.00 than 100% of $0.00 so the logic isn't lost on me. I've only recently started Patreon so I'm still getting my legs under me there and I set the initial tiers based on history. I have a Paypal link on the website and people have been using it for years, so I set the initail levels to bracket the majority of those donations. HOWEVER, I am in agreement with you that it seems more people would be willing to kick in a smaller amount. So I have to look at the tiers and benefits to see how to fit that in.
      Anyway, thanks for the perspective and I am definitely going to open up a cheaper tier or two.
