Have the Sharky II 6000 that will see it's first saltwater fishing this winter. I have the Penn Pursuit 8000 IV, Eccoda HS 8000 Hornet and Daiwa Tournament 2600 Whisker as well all on different length Ugly Stik surf rods. Should be interesting to see how they all perform. In my Navy days I wore out several Daiwa and Pflueger reels.
Great review of the reels Chris! The Sharky II 3000 looks more comparable to the Battle II 2000 in size and line capacity. Would be nice if manufactures collaborated and set uniform standards on the numeric sizing of their reels.
Sharky II is $22.71 USD from Kastking website at this point! Heck, the Sharky III is only $38.22! This is just one more review that's has me saving for an order of a KastKing sharky II 1500 UL and also a 4000 series as well as a sharky III baitfeeder in 4000. Heck for $22 I might as well grab myself a 3000 also for my all around fishing outfit. My reels are old Quantum energy PT I bought maybe in 2005? And the Diawa is grinding from freshwater kayak fishing. New bearings? $40 from Bocabearings.. HA! I'll just replace them all for the price of about 1 reel!
And,now, folks, we have the KastKing Sharky lll. Have you looked into that one, Chris? I bought a Penn Fierce ll 2000 for my light power set up and I love it. Yes, it costs more than the KastKing reels but I like it's solid build even if that makes it heavier. Also, I have had great respect for the Penn brand ever since I owned a old baitcasting reel way back in the caveman days of the early 1960s. Tight lines, Sir!
I had a Sharky III, gave it and the Lamiglass it was on to my Dad. It wasn't a bad reel for the $. Caught quite a few decent fish with it. I need to check out the Penn Fierce but just picked up a Shimano Stradic Ci4 so I'm broke for a bit, lol.
Want to start inshore fisbing. Looking to get ugly stick Inshore select 7'6 MH rod with kastking sharky 3. Thoughts? Also is the reel size on kastking the same as shimano? Is a 4000 kastking the same as 4000 shimano?
Hey. Sounds like fun. I think right now thr Sharky III is out of stock (should be back in stock soon enough). Another option would be the Kodiak, which is a true saltwater reel and it is really really good. I have a 2000 and a 5000. Not sure how they compare on capacity to be honest, the Kodiak 4000 can spool 196 yards of 12 pound mono. Hope that helps.
