Just want to clarify/reiterate that NOT ALL the servers in this list are pay-to-win! Only the ones I directly mentioned are. So as for the other servers on this list, please show kindness if you decide to join them. Thank you!
The commerical usage guidelines are very vaguely/poorly written, but when they mention you can't sell things that give a competitive advantage in game, the reason pay to win servers are allowed is because they aren't considered competitive. And what Mojang deems as competitive, and has actually blocked servers for in the past, is if they offer real money payouts. If they don't have those, then in the eyes of Mojangs guidelines they aren't considered competitive, and thus are allowed to be pay to win. They really should rewrite the guidelines to be clearer. I also applied to get my server on this list, curious to see what happens.
I'm starting to genuinely question where Minecraft is heading. I've seen so many games fall to bad practices, greed & terrible decision making... I hope they don't go down the same road, but it's almost inevitable.
Fun fact, the badge with a hammer on it is a server that was, "recently reviewed by the Mojang Enforcement team and are found to comply with the Minecraft Usage Guidelines for running the server." They were not only reviewed by GamerSafer, but also Mojang, and every server listed includes the badge...
@@vulpzin it take ONE guy to look at their scummy website to know they are greedy within 15 minutes, how the hell a billionaire worth of team cant even check it more than once
not really I've seen this crap before, it just some Minecraft server listing group where your server can be shown in the top 10 like other Minecraft server list or etc.
Another concern is that the creation of this Official Server List feels like Mojang is trying their hands on taking back control of the servers & make everything Kid-friendly - "Game Safer" as a name should ring some alarm bells. If the Official List became the go-to for most people, 3rd party Server Lists will slowly dwindle in popularity. Then, the servers will have to make their server kid-friendly to gain access to large potential playerbase. Kind of like how most websites don't risk getting delisted off of Google.
This would be a GOOD thing. third party server lists are awful. They engage in terrible practices that just harms the community. You clearly know nothing
I understand your concern but imo third party server lists are trash. Anything that doesn't have shady promotional deals is better than them. Still though, the best way to get a list of good servers is to be active in the community and ask other community members what servers they play on
I laughed when he said their name is "Game Safer", ofc it is. I wouldn't be surprised if they had an old name and Microsoft paid them to rename, just so they can really drill in the message that "Everything is safe guys!!1!" (This is most certainly not true, but I like to imagine it is)
This isn't entirely a Mojang issue, its a GamerSafer issue for allowing them on the list before Mojang collaborated. But now that Mojang has tied themselves to it calling it "The OFFICIAL server list of Minecraft" it makes it FAR worse. It's just now there's 2 groups that aren't properly vetting the servers with something as simple as checking the servers website for if they follow TOS.
By the sounds of it, GameSafer makes a provisionary list of applicants, and they hand it over to Mojang who then does a final verification. Mojang either know exactly what's getting in, or they don't and are letting them in anyway. Is ignorance preferable to malice, because it has to be at least one of those that Mojang is culpable of.
the worst part is that they *technically* obey the TOS because they are super vague, (as seen in themisterepic's comment) so this might not even be fixed
the fact that this is a list officially sponsored by mojang, for children, that contains p2w servers. The servers are still p2w regardless over whether or not they technically obey an incredibly vague and malleable ruleset, or whether or not "competitive" is interpreted differently.@@game_time1633
After looking into this myself with the server "OP blocks" according to the website it has been assigned the "Builders Benchmark" Badge and this is the description provided for this badge. "Servers with this Badge have been recently reviewed by the Mojang Enforcement team and are found to comply with the Minecraft Usage Guidelines for running the server." and after looking at EVERY P2W SERVER sal showed in this video. every single one has the Builders benchmark badge meaning according to the site it was reviewed by mojang and allowed to exist on the site. i wish it was ignorance but this really is telling another story.
Nothing wrong with servers monetizing themselves. Servers cost money and developers have to eat. Even hypixel with its massive playerbase shifted towards 'p2w' a while ago.
Mojang knows. Mojang has known and Mojang continues to deliberately turn a blind eye because the bulk of their MC-related income comes from accounts associated with P2W servers. People that buy the $80 tier are also buying $7 skins on the daily. The Venn Diagram of people that pay for advantages in video games and people that pay extraordinary amounts for cosmetics in video games is indistinguishable from a single circle. Mojang knows and has known for decades. You can't even say they don't care, because they DO care. They care very much that these P2W servers stay not only in operation, but at the top of traffic, because those servers bring the money players.
@@RonkleyI don't recall hypixel doing P2W. I'm pretty sure that the stuff you can buy is either purely cosmetic or a rank that really only effects hub stuff. I don't recall any competitive edge that would be available to purchase in stuff like bed wars and sky wars to my knowledge. Can you please tell me how hypixel went P2W I would like to know.
@@Ronkley Whether you think it's morally ok or not, the facts are that it's against the usage guidelines and Mojang doesn't seem to care. If they want to allow this, they should change the usage guidelines. And stuff you pay for in Hypixel doesn't give you a competitive advantage.
Another frustrating thing with the server list is that there seems to be no confirmation about any of the inputted information. For example, some server spam every tag there is just to show up in search results more. Like if you want to find servers running 1.2, you can't, because it's just filled with servers that have applied every version tag. Sure, there are some plugins that allow you to join servers in different versions. But that doesn't mean that the servers should be allowed to advertise that they actually *run* those versions.
I'm forever grateful I got to experience Minecraft in its prime during the early 2010s and not have to put up with the kind of bullshit Mojang has been pushing for the last couple of years

Another way of going under the radar is to disable and hide all the P2W elements for the duration of the review, and once they're officially on the list, they can put it all back online.
When I saw LoverFella's server on the list... I have no words. They literally, officially support and approve of servers that literally break their rules and guidlines... when will this circus end?
I think Mojang says that you can’t sell things that gives a competitive advantage, and these servers *technically* aren’t competitive, so they just turn a blind eye.
My server explicitly allows swearing, and they allowed us (Hotdog Water) on the list. In my rules, which are linked on the findmc site listing: "Swearing is fine, just don't be gross." Wonder if they overlooked it or if they condone it.
@@JakeLaMtn why would they go about the many nuances of free speech when they can go the lazy way and just ban all bad words? It's not hurting their bottom line, and this controversy pretty much blew by. Like most things with Mojang/ Microdicc, they don't care.
I commemorate Mojang, for continuing the trend of 'Well Respected companies randomly becoming pieces of shit for no reason at a specific time in 2023'.
They fell off with the player reporting, splitting an update that was already split to begin with, continuing doing one of the most hated things by the community: the mob votes...
Haven forbid even a single server has plugins that add not-approved weapons but servers promoting gambling to kids or with pay-to-win ranks that give access to op items and commands. This feels like something that will be fixed later but it shouldn't be up to the community to fix Mojang's lack of judgement when they allow something they take seriously like servers following their rules and guidelines
Wow, just wow. It is (or at least was, I did not check it recently at all) clearly stated in Minecraft's guidelines, that you are *not* allowed to sell kits, items, etc. which give you regular items as rewards like diamonds. And literally the kit you showed us had 32 Diamonds as a part of the kit.
What I'm most disturbed by is the "3 Hour Death Ban" which sounds like if you kill someone they can't respawn for 3 hours, which is more than enough time to grief them and let their stuff despawn
I wonder... If Mojang is brazenly allowing P2W servers on their official browser, is it because they just don't care? Or is it because they cut a deal with those servers to get a cut of the profits? I don't know which one is worse tbh
I find it unlikely that they are getting a cut, they can most likely get in trouble for that. There are sooo many servers out there some are going to slip though the cracks. Or they don't have pay to win get approved then add pay to win later that is the most likely option since the serer owners are greedy af lol
This has been a thing on Bedrock Edition for years, where all of the pre-loaded servers are Pay2Win lootbox servers, who give Mojang a large % of their income for the privilege of being pre-loaded

There's a report option that takes waaaay to long to use. They basically want us to collect all the evidence of what the servers doing wrong, compile it with links and at least one screenshot, and who knows if they'll even look at the report. Love doing all the work they should be doing, but I'm not being paid for it.
Well, think about it, they can't enforce the rules on thousands of servers effectively and efficiently. They don't have enough manpower to deal with it all, so it is better to just accept pay to win. Reality is often disappointing, but there's nothing you can do, and the money isn't worth it to hire new employees to take on the role of mojang support.
its 100% because owners who applied to this needed the additional players to join. hypixel def does not need to join to "official" server list. Tubers like you&techno help hypixel to advertise their server for free and hypixel is biggest server on minecraft, so they dont have to join to these.
I am comparing something like hypixel which is kinda pay2win but it isn’t ridiculous to literally any server that has crates that can be opened using keys purchased with REAL MONEY.
So now you and the AntiP2W crowd have a hit-list. We remember what a debacle MCBans was (god bless TeamAvolition and give them ice-cream); so now we move to make sure, just like with MCBans, that being on the community list puts a target on your back. Being on the community list is not worth the headache of dealing with dupers and griefers. Being on the community list is *terrible for business,* and server ops would be better off on their own.
OPBlocks in particular is even worse, because they have something that is against the Minecraft TOS: Pay2win in crates/loot boxes (the crystals.) The whole ranks thing is a grey area that the support staff will tell you is "Actually Okay to have." But as soon as they're included in loot crates/boxes, Mojang really doesn't like it. As it goes against the whole gambling thing. The Loverfella server also is one that does this too. Another issue is that one of the servers is abusing tags. It has no English description whatsoever, but says it's English.
whats even crazier is i've seen people defend it as not p2w, saying stuff like "just because there's ranks doesn't make it p2w." Now granted that statement was directly in the actual server itself, but like idk how you wouldn't think its p2w
It would have taken one Mojang intern an afternoon of quickly checking all the server websites to remove like 95% of the pay-to-win servers on the list, smh.
It’s worth noting that some of the p2w servers don’t give an advantage over other players when it’s not competitive, so I don’t think they would count against the guidelines(but something like that /near command definitely implies that there’s a good, competitive use to seeing other players)
@@lulmanlulman if the server doesn't have pvp, p2w doesn't exist because there is nothing to win. Just to clarify, I doubt that the servers in the list are pvp off anyway, so it would count as p2w
@@13kpf There's more to competitive gaming than just pvp, don't know why you're assuming just because something isn't pvp that you can't buy a competitive advantage over players. If a server is centered around making money and you pay IRL money to make more money than a regular player reasonably could, that's the literal definition of buying an advantage and being p2w. There is always stuff to win, there's quests, leaderboards, player shops, competitive build competitions, pve dungeons, etc. P2W isn't exclusive to PVP.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the TOS states that you are not allowed to gain any COMPETITIVE advantage. The key word is competitive here. I spent maybe a good 5 minutes logging onto servers with "p2w" ranks, and warping to any pvp zone. If you try to do /heal or any commands that may give you an advantage, it will most likely prompt you with something like "this command is not allowed in this zone". This is the case for 90% of servers with the op commands, they are not allowed to be used in any type of pvp or "competitive advantage". There is no rule against having op commands for non competitive things that won't effect anyone else. Hypixel Skyblock for example, had to remove the Colosseum (the pvp zone), because they started to introduce ways to convert irl money to in game currency, in which they removed all "competitive" aspects. I'm not saying that there are servers on this list that are actually p2w (like faction ranks), but it feels like the majority of these servers sell ranks that won't give the "competitive advantage" and go against TOS.
Sal, I don't know if you've been informed, but the official server site is literally down right now, like "this site doesn't function and it doesn't look like it was taken down for maintenance" type of down. Wow.
Servers on this site are user submitted so its not a case of Mojang endorsed but Mojang (and/or gamersafer) arent moderating the site properly. If you look the site doesn't even list Hypixel on there because the owners have to list it themselves and bare in mind this site opened 4 days ago. It's almost the same system as the bedrock marketplace there are so many servers that it would be impossible to manually verify each one so they let users submit them and are probably working on a team to go through and remove the really bad ones after the fact
If that is indeed true, that's still a fault against them since a large, decently staffed moderation team should probably be something you should be gathering and implementing alongside the creation process of hosting site so it would be ready to go immediately on launch. That they didn't apparently think this was a top priority reflects badly on them.
ohh so users can directly post servers without moderation on that list? no? so? gamesafe did a sht "job" and its not an argument that its only 4 days old, it must be safe from day 0!
probably both because Mojang/Microsoft is just blindly trusting gamersafer and gamersafer is probably doing the bare minimum on verifying if those servers even comply with the TOS of Mojang because if you remember when Mojang killed a Minecraft nft project then you clearly be confused right now with this news
Even if this is the case, P2W servers already have badges next to them saying they’ve been “manually reviewed” (just as they’re “manually reviewing” reports…). So it’s either negligence, blatant lying or they’re being paid off by the server itself to be on the list
Since this is official that means the FCC can get involved! Call the FCC and report that Mojang is doing this as this is a violation of COPPAA and will likely get Mojang shut down if they refuse to comply with the law.
there is one created by the same dude who created orespawn who just went mad because they couldn't legally make people pay for his stupidly overpowered mod to be ported into new minecraft, and now that dude is creating minecraft clone with his biases and conspiracies. althought they havent posted progress in 10 months, so it probably has died too.
as bad as it is that the servers are pay to win, it shouldn’t be mojang’s place to dictate what people’s servers have in them. mojang does not run these servers and don’t do anything to directly help the servers. the only thing they did for those servers was make the game itself
Yo Sal you missed this line just a few lines up in the Usage Guidelines "Asking for donations, so long as you don’t offer the donor something that only they can use However, you may offer all players server wide rewards if donation goals are met."
Only last hope we can have is that they want those servers on the list and then ban them permanently so they can at least keep track of the bad guys... but then again, it wasn't even supposed to be on the list to begin with so they already failed at that task which is just stupid and sad :(
3:32 They have lovercraft???? So much for child safety 💀💀💀💀 Reminder: This server sells ranks called "slobber" and "licker" and there's been leaked DMs showing that the owner is really weird around kids
IKR It’s so weird (but, unfortunately, not surprising) that a guy, who’s audience is underage, makes ranks connected to DJs Plus his server is littered with basically gambling because of those keys
Game Safer works closely with an unsafe server that has had a history of malpractice, and possible endagerment of children. They also advocate for a global ban system to allow any servers connected to them to be able to possibly globally ban a player from many servers.
Something has to be wrong with the vetting process. There's no way a server that has an $80 booster pack with efficiency 100 tools and player proximity commands is considered fair gameplay to a $0 run. It's either that or ACTUAL GAMBLING within the servers. Most don't even bother to list the chances of each drop, so you could be throwing money at an item with a 0.007% drop rate.
I was in The Horizon’s video with the minecarts about MineSuperior. I got banned after spending approx $2k over 4 months (I’m an adult, am retired and can afford it). I complained about the amount of gambling being offered to minors and that they were opening themselves up to a lawsuit. Because of this, I was banned for “threatening legal action against the server” and perm banned. They also banned my nephew’s account because we played on the same IP. They are 100% trash, and I’m disgusted that Mojang did NOTHING to penalize them when I made several reports to them about it.

Greediness has a limit. Beware of its consequences. Also mojang or this "company" is avoiding the responsibility to keep everything in check. Its just sad.
I love that mojang, with all the infinite resources of minecraft, outsources an official server list instead of making a solution themselves. It feels very in-line with mojang's behaviour but still feels a bit weird.
0:10 WRONG. I know what corporations do. They make money. Why would mojang not approve pay-to-win servers and get a little share of their exploitation? This is just 100% logical in a capitalist world.
And this is the actual most important difference between Terraria and Minecraft. Minecraft’s dev team is either silenced by Microsoft or just doesn’t consider what is good for the player, just the bottom line. Meanwhile Re-Logic takes a stand against a platform they don’t even use (Unity) when that platform tries to make an extremely negative change, by donating to that platform’s competitors. No one asked them to do anything, they just saw a future issue and immediately said no. This is why I predict Terraria will be the longer-lived game. Terraria was always designed to just be fun for the devs, who are also gamers. They test it themselves and see what works and is fun (along with other testers). And when the community asks them for stuff, they listen and actively consider it. Compare that to one incident, Minecraft chat reporting. The community was completely ignored, and since that system was implemented there have been people who have had major issues with it, just as the community said would happen. The devs asked us to trust them, and then they failed to prevent the problems the community said would happen. They refuse to add things like Sharks or other fun irl mobs because of idiotic reasons, and the recent mob vote shows a lack of communication that frustrates players a ton. Basically, both games have support, but only Terraria has dev SUPPORT, ya know? Meanwhile Mojang does trash like this, letting P2W servers operate because they don’t (or can’t, depending on who you ask) actually care about what’s good for the player.
They're literally letting the community do the rest of their job just as you're doing in 5:01. There's no way they are that ignorant. It's gotta be their way of saving money and manipulating people into doing this...
When Microsoft bought Mojang we all knew it was going to go this way. I can’t even log into my account I bought in 1.2.1 because I don’t want a Microsoft account. The game has been problematic since 1.12/1.14 and it’s only gotten worse since. It’s never going to get better and I’d be surprised if it doesn’t get worse. The hey day of minecraft is over and it’s not going to get better.
For those not happy with the current state of minecraft, I suggest giving minetest a try. It's free and amazing. One tip: install mods for a better experience. The base game is very barebone like early minecraft but it comes with the modloader out of the box.
I distinctly remember this being opposed by Mojang back in 2013/2014. It came with a whole slate of other EULA changes but selling items on servers was a distinct callout. Oh well, guess they need to breathe new life into the 3rd party server space with their clampdowns on free speech

@@shardmawif that's the case, the next drama would be great lol
All servers mentioned in the video are following the usage guidelines from what I know. So I'm confused what issue ya'll are having.
the fact that this is a list officially sponsored by mojang, for children, that contains p2w servers.
"Servers with this Badge have been recently reviewed by the Mojang Enforcement team and are found to comply with the Minecraft Usage Guidelines for running the server."
and after looking at EVERY P2W SERVER sal showed in this video. every single one has the Builders benchmark badge meaning according to the site it was reviewed by mojang and allowed to exist on the site.
i wish it was ignorance but this really is telling another story.
Nothing wrong with servers monetizing themselves. Servers cost money and developers have to eat. Even hypixel with its massive playerbase shifted towards 'p2w' a while ago.
@@Ronkley how exactly did hypixel shift towards p2w?

There is always stuff to win, there's quests, leaderboards, player shops, competitive build competitions, pve dungeons, etc.

I'm not saying that there are servers on this list that are actually p2w (like faction ranks), but it feels like the majority of these servers sell ranks that won't give the "competitive advantage" and go against TOS.
hey Sal, you're legitimately an awesome guy for bringing this to light
mojang: p2w servers is against TOS

Sal, I don't know if you've been informed, but the official server site is literally down right now, like "this site doesn't function and it doesn't look like it was taken down for maintenance" type of down.
Wow.
Mojang do not have, and should not have any say over community servers so this does not matter
Servers on this site are user submitted so its not a case of Mojang endorsed but Mojang (and/or gamersafer) arent moderating the site properly. If you look the site doesn't even list Hypixel on there because the owners have to list it themselves and bare in mind this site opened 4 days ago. It's almost the same system as the bedrock marketplace there are so many servers that it would be impossible to manually verify each one so they let users submit them and are probably working on a team to go through and remove the really bad ones after the fact
that shit makes this even worse

Man, even Mojang employees skipped the EULA and just hit agree 💀
Meanwhile Mojang does trash like this, letting P2W servers operate because they don’t (or can’t, depending on who you ask) actually care about what’s good for the player.

was playing guild wars and was wondering why the music was so loud and then saw the music credits LMFAO
When I first heard about the official list this is exactly what I was worried about
i want to live in 2014 again
Thats why you support modders, not mojang
We now officially live in the darkest timeline.
We’d need to pay for oxygen.
Not yet but we are nearing the end I believe
we're already here for years.
All the 2014 anti-Microsoft purchase chads just keep winning
(Sadly it's a Pyrrhic victory)
nah this shit is already a dystopia
if you'd ask someone from 1980 they'd think what the fuck happened to us

Man the first thing i checked was this and its really sad to see this happening
They're literally letting the community do the rest of their job just as you're doing in 5:01. There's no way they are that ignorant. It's gotta be their way of saving money and manipulating people into doing this...
When Microsoft bought Mojang we all knew it was going to go this way. I can’t even log into my account I bought in 1.2.1 because I don’t want a Microsoft account.
The game has been problematic since 1.12/1.14 and it’s only gotten worse since. It’s never going to get better and I’d be surprised if it doesn’t get worse. The hey day of minecraft is over and it’s not going to get better.
I am thfrom eating scented candles
keep it up!
For those not happy with the current state of minecraft, I suggest giving minetest a try. It's free and amazing. One tip: install mods for a better experience. The base game is very barebone like early minecraft but it comes with the modloader out of the box.
nice
I distinctly remember this being opposed by Mojang back in 2013/2014. It came with a whole slate of other EULA changes but selling items on servers was a distinct callout.
Oh well, guess they need to breathe new life into the 3rd party server space with their clampdowns on free speech
I was really trying to figure out why the music sounded so familiar and turned out it was Guild Wars. Think this is the first time I've seen a video using the OST so props for that.
