There’s also a test/check to confirm that it’s the starter before even pulling it, by jumping two connections at the relay, between #30 & 87a at the relay block.
I offered to repair my neighbors car last week when I identified the problem as this broken fork from the solenoid the the starter engagement gear, but she felt it was too musc for me to do. I said nonsense, I’ll get the part for around 10 bucks and take care of it. She decided to have her vehicle towed in and fixed. They insisted on replacing the whole starter and she needed a new battery, too. (I had tested the battery to begin with, no dead cells, full charge, and seemed to be fine) $831 later, she got her car back and was happy. She said they gave her a discount because she was an older lady with financial limits. In my opinion, I could have saved her over $800 bucks.

Just finished installing a new starter using his method. Took about two hours start to finish, but it works! The hardest part is getting the starter back in. Patience.
