awesome. this was my favorite Intellivision game. I would purposely avoid taking the Minotaur's treasure and just keep going down level after level, facing increasingly stronger monsters and picking up increasingly stronger weapons. If I remember correctly, the colored doors (white, gold, etc) could be attacked with magic items, and when they were "killed", they turned into normal doors again.
Ditto! This was my fav. Intellivision game as well. I would keep going down ladders to Level 256, & then start all over again. I would avoid the Minotaur's Chest until I @ least had a 99 Platinum Crossbow, a Purple Spiritual Book, & the Blue, Pink, & Purple "Magic Books .."
Incorrect... while tossing a treasure chest will stop them from attacking you (I use it from time to time to gauge their strength before committing) it doesn't allow them to be opened by doing that.. You have to defeat them to get in and get your Teleport, Turn to Platinum or Seeing Eye book
Loved this RPG since age 3. My dad was bothered by the purple dragons where I was more bothered by the orange hooded wraiths cuz they attack with both war and spiritual weapons. They also always made haste for your weakest level of hit points, and red or purple spiritual weapons took more than one hit.
One of my favorite games, the colored doors are charmed and you can kill those doors. When you killed, you can find behind one of the three magic books : make powerfull weapons, travel across walls or see across walls.
Anybody who didn't play this when it was released will never understand how us people who played it back then loved it. It looks so simplistic and arguably boring. But back then this was some pretty deep gameplay for a console. After playing it and learning it I always set to max levels and played for hours.
This game was AWESOME. Didn't play it a whole lot, but I thought it was so badass at the time, especially compared to the other D&D. My brother and I found this cartridge on sale at kaybee toystore in the mall, on clearance for $.99. We had to remove the shell to make it fit. Visalia, CA, back in the 80's. It seemed like a rare title.
I played this game as a kid, and watching you play was such a nostalgic trip down memory lane. It's amazing how familiar everything is after all these years.
Welcome to one of the 80s greatest games. You have a lot to learn but that's what makes this game so fun. I enjoyed it so much I bought a flashback system to relive my childhood with this game. The other D&D game is fun too don't recall its rename though.
damn i used to go to my aunt's house and they had an intellivision with a box full of games, but all the plastic overlays were missing. I get some serious nostalgia watching this game, i remember playing this at night on a big television, trying to figure the game out.
If you ever want to play this again, a couple of pointers. On this map it only shows down to level two, so once you pass level two you are no longer visible on the map. Open ALL the doors, you passed on so many. The colored 'eyes' on the ground indicate you are on the outside corridores-I think the room is 10 X 10. Also, always keep the bows/crossbows and scrolls/attacking books for your attacks.
We had AD&D Cloudy Mountain and I still can't believe how great that one was, but it still blows my mind that there there was an honest to god RPG on the Intellivision. Could never find it as a kid, so I'm happy I can at least watch people play on TH-cam.
I remembered playing this game the year it came out and it was quite addicting. I would hang out with some childhood friends and we'd play this game until early 2-3am into 1983. Fun times and i never finished conquering the game.
Thanks for putting up this video. It was very helpful and informative. I'm trying to pick this game back up and it is taking me a while to remember everything but that was a big help
Great video! This was a classic ... Anyone remember the Small Pink Vial in this game? The description said that it would "help find better things in containers .." LOL More often than not, it actually would "help find better bombs in containers," too LOL Oops, sorry, you have now been Reincarnated! Enjoy your empty pack .... LOL
Theres is a secret door on the treasure level on easy that will let you continue on the game instead of taking the easy level treasure. You continue on down ladders but the map wont reveal where you are anymore.
this game was the shit. It seemed so advanced. The first one was legendary, too. The huffing and puffing of the monsters, those dumb rats....could give you nightmares
this was 1 of my top 15 intellivision games along with space spartons - the dreadnaught factor - micro surgeon - tron deadly discs - bomb squad - b-17 bomber - lock-n-chase - burgertime - atlantis - super pro basketball - super pro hockey - diner - night stalker - horse racing
There is a way to cheat in this game, pick up a strength book and with an empty quiver attack a moderately difficult monster, let it almost (yes almost) kill you and use a very strong weapon to kill it. Upon resting you will quickly gain strength as its similar to fighting just as many monsters and uses less food.
Another tip once you get down into tougher enemies if your not quite equipped to fight them is to stop before you turn a corner and look who's there instead of just turning corners
next time you play, just keep going down to deeper levels even 40-50 floors. Get all the best potions and the one that lets you make your weapons into platinum. I used to love this game. As others mention: considering the simplicity of what the system could do, this game was really good. The deeper levels had the better potions/books/weapons.
Hahaha, this looks familiar! Didn't realize you had so many videos and subs on TH-cam -- that's awesome, man. Keep up the good work, and I hope you continue to enjoy my streams.
one of my favorite games as a kid.. slightly painful watching you play and leave more powerful weapons lying there while you carry around a weak lightning bolt lol Also nothing wrong with using the potions instead of leaving them there
Remember those "invisible monster" doors. Tan, pink and yellow, that one being the most powerful enemy in the game. Killing it is worth the effort: the Book of Midas! Which turns every war weapons into platinum! (Should have been gold!). Afterwhich, being super strong, only a bomb could get rid of you. Been once deep down to level 255; max level. Took me quite a few hours... to learn that after level 255 it's... level 1. All along those weak monsters. Duh! Loved that game!
I got to like level 30 or something but I was like 6 when I played this. The levels started to get really big and as a kid, invisible doors and different weapons, and random bombs was too much for me to understand lol. I remember the monsters started getting really strong, the really big guys and dragons would 2-3 shot me :(
one of the greatest games of all time- Are there any modern games with similar (labyrinth /corridor exploration) i don't like the Gauntlet style- perspective- games
quite a late reply, but the legend of grimrock games are reminiscent. the second one especially takes the basic gameplay concept and does amazing things with it, absolutely excellent game
Amazing!!! Thank you so much for putting this video out! I used to play this game with my dad, way back in the 80s. I was only 5, so I never knew what the hell I was doing, so it is nice to see you slay the final Minotaur. btw... Do you have a vid of you conquering Swords & Serpents? That was another one that I thought was never ending and impossible to beat.
Swords and serpents never had an ending...the programmer didn't write one. It was an awesome game tho. I saw the dragon once...but never had the destroy walls spell. Then I went to fools folly
I use a Dazzle DVC 100 capture card. First I output my Intellivision to a VCR, then i use a set of AV/RCA splitters, and one set of cables goes to my TV and the other to the Dazzle. Then I use a program called Amarectv to capture the video and the finally I use OBS to capture Amarectv.
@@IntellivisionDudeGaming Haha, it's still pretty fun. I used to play that for hours because I'd keep questing until I had piles of the best equipment. The books were my favorite weapon.
No worries :) If you stream one day again, I hope to catch it! I'm about to start up Advanced Dungeons & Dragons- assuming it's the prequel to this. Pretty excited about it
This is the 1st game I ever played that had a 3D environment I’m not sure but I think it’s 1 of the 1st ever 3D walker it looks like crap I know but after u play it for about 1hr you start to become immersed into it & u no longer see it as cheap graphics
I thought the same thing that it was the first 3D walker, but recently i have been informed that 1 or 2 games may have come out before it. Crypts of Chaos for the 2600 and Dungeons of Daggorath for the TRS-80. Not sure about the exact release dates for all the games. But i used to tell people Tarmin was the first but i may have been wrong.
Here's a hint... you might want to run thru the game and familiarize yourself with it BEFORE you make a video!!! Unless having us watch you learn the game was the point...
+IntellivisionDude Also you could try to explain what is going on... I was lost and the occasional times you said anything it was basically like you were talking to yourself.
I played this game for hours and trust me that is just how this game is, you are constantly getting lost, and trying to figure out which weapon is the best to get. It's a hard game!
You are getting rid of/keeping the wrong items. You don't know how to play this game not merely because you've never/hardly ever played it before; you don't know how to play this game because you have no common sense. And commentary on longplays is highly overrated & this video excruciatingly does a lot to prove that reality!
Wow, complaining on a video i made 7 years ago. I guess the first time you play a game you are a master at it immediately. Use some common sense and don't be as ass.
@Dude: Lol?! You, it's pretty obvious, didn't even do any research on the game before playing it; this time...which is to say even if you played it before, which is inconsequential whether or not you did. And how old a video is/how long ago it was made is also meaningless; that's a whataboutist straw-man argument. You lecturing anyone anyone else about common sense is so pathetic that, I find, that (it) is an excellent source of good comedy! Do. Research. On. A. Game. First. File that under " *Duh!* "; put that in the `" *Duh!* " File`! You're welcome!

Toss a chest at them and it would knock them out. Afterwards you could open them normally.

I still play this game as an adult. I love it
Me and my brother played the hell out of this, one would control the movement while the other controlled the weapons…good times.
Blew my mind when i found the spell book that let you see thru walls... or the one that let you walk through!
One of my favorite games. Here´s a tip: You are supposed to attack that door...
Those doors are the worst. Especially that dreadful yellow door.
I loved playing this as a kid when I was in junior high around 1987-1988.
Anybody who didn't play this when it was released will never understand how us people who played it back then loved it. It looks so simplistic and arguably boring. few true heroes in this 21st century. You are one of them for playing Intellivision at all, let alone sticking this gameplay on youtube.

The wierd colored doors you have to attack with weapons before they open, if you defeat the hidden monster.
Way ahead of it's time. The first Phantasy Star definitely was influenced by this!
seems like the manual and the controller overlay are a must for this intellivision game.
If you ever want to play this again, a couple of pointers. On this map it only shows down to level two, so once you pass level two you are no longer visible on the map. Reminds me of Tunnels of Doom. Love these games from when I was a lot younger. :)

Yep, on very hard you pretty much had to do that. Taking that fat blue potion and using a /3 grey scroll on a weak skeleton.

tower of doom was the best of the D and D intellivision games.

I keep reading this was released for the Atari 2600 but can find no evidence or screenshots for it.
