San Lorenzo Canyon should be avoided if there is any chance of rain for the area. The main canyon is the collector for runoff from the west and tributary canyons along its length. The canyon floor an flood wall-to-wall in minutes.

the trail guide for the GET (Grand Enchantment Trail) says there is a San Lorenzo spring in San Lorenzo canyon. What I would like to do is go through san lorenzo canyon heading north on my first day, staying on the south side of the salado and camping, next day moving camp up by cerro colorado (one of the thousands, the cerro colorado in the sierra ladrones) and then the next day do a 30 mi loop to and from Ladron peak, then hike out the next day through the visitor area. Of course. Concern is water, rio salado will likely be wet to the west, but I am curious if you have heard of this San Lorenzo Spring? I guess the Rio Grande is pretty close, if not.
That should be amazing! Looking on Google maps, it shows the spring at: (34.2392326, -107.0197560) but I have no idea if that’s a reliable source of water. You may want to call the BLM office in Socorro 575-835-0412. Sorry I couldn’t help more, enjoy your hike!

I am well able to carry 5 liters anyway so I will likely be okay. The trail guide for the GET rated as a 3/4 on its reliability scale -- must be serviceable ! I will report back after the backpacking trip if I find out more. Also super cool that there are fire pits there !
Nice man you and the old TH-cam are doing me right! I made it down through Silver city area Ben Lily etc. did my business down at the playas and now heading back up outside of truth and consequence at Monticello Road. But I think I might have to pull into that canyon tomorrow for a day or two! Thanks again for all the good info!
👎🏼 That’s unfortunate. I figured as much, having camped there twice with a couple weeks between. Some of the sites were trashed with living branches, glass, and garbage the 2nd time. If you keep following the main dirt road out there, I guess it leads to another, smaller canyon. I wonder if there’s less activity there?
That’s part of what happens when you advertise these lesser known camping spots with a TH-cam - you can accidentally encourage huge groups of people with no respect of the land to show up and trash it. Imo these spots are best advertised by word of mouth.
I think you could get to the end of the canyon, but it might be difficult to turn around there depending on your length. The deeper sand is mostly in the wash before the canyon, but if you stay on the main path, you should be fine. I hope that helps!

Stay away on the weekend, this is a local party hangout and they will run you off with loud music, drinking and utvs.
