Yeah, mine sounds like that when inserting a DVD into the drive but only for about 5-10 seconds. Afterwards, it's quiet. My PS4's DVD drive did the same thing as well.

Ain’t no way the slim in normal working condition sounds that loud actually sounds like my ps4 pro that’s been cleaned anyways my Spider-Man ps5 doesn’t sound nowhere near like that and actually very quiet besides install/ reading discs
It wasn't just that either. My PS5's disc drive would sound relatively normal but after an hour of use with a disc inside, it would spin up really fast and make a really loud noise and close whatever I was doing. Even if I had a disc inside but was playing a digital game it would still close it. I tried everything usually recommended like manually ejecting the disc, looking for the heatsink defect, etc. but it was never fixed until I actually opened the disc drive itself and fixed the blue rubber piece inside. It was *barely* not sitting flush and I am honestly surprised something that was barely noticeable caused such an issue. Has been working with zero issues ever since.

Even the "normal" sounding PS5 is like a jet taking off 😮. I have a Series X and it is whisper quiet. I thought the PS5 would be the same but the more you live the more you learn.
My PS5 disc version I bought in November 2022 and it’s been very quiet for me. However, one minor issue I have that nobody else seems to have is that my controllers actually take an unusually long amount of time to charge. Battery life is okay on all 4 of them (could be better, could be worse) but after about the first month I’ve had my console my controllers went from 2-3 hours of getting them fully charged to anywhere between 6-12 hours’ worth, and in the most extreme cases up to 24 hours. It’s a pain in the rear but it’s better than dealing with buzzing noises and overheating like there’s been on the PS5 Slim.
@@lakerskid2013 i suggest you to charge them with a different cable and adapter and look if there is a time difference. I have 2 docking stations for my Steam Deck and they both work perfectly fine except one of them doesn't charge my Anker Power bank at all, and that seems to be the only device it is not compatible with. Sometimes some devices doesn't like to play along well, like my wife's iphone only seems to fast charge with an Apple branded charger, although there are much more capable chargers lying around in my house. The most infuriating thing with the slim is the same with the og PS5.....it's a complete lottery if you get a quiet or loud one. As they've always done they use 4 different manufacturers to produce the fans... resulting in significant differences from one console to the next. I don't know why it's so hard to adopt a more unified approach.
The slim is so quiet bro. He has a high end mic close to the console you arent hearing sounds like this in real life out of your ears. Especially if u play digital games u aren’t hearing console noise
*Hello there John, I'm from UK London area, I recently brought a ps5 slim with disc drive some weeks or months back, I had the same problem as you with a buzzing sound, I was testing out ps4 and ps5 games and heard a buzzing sound.*
I got scared too, it happened when I put on a new disc(Saint's Row) It was loud vibrating noises, but it soon went away after a few re-inserting the disc.
I would like to know how common / uncommon this issue is. Is there a way to find out the commonality of this problem? The reason i ask is i just bought a slim one month ago.
I have a question, Is it okay to keep the ps5 plugged into AC power socket all the time? I always fully shut it down after I'm finished playing, but i don't unplug it. Is it okay?
It's still wild that the PS5 slim is that loud. The Xbox Series X disc drive is effectively silent next to my PS5. It's so annoying that I just stopped buying physical games for PlayStation all together.
its coil whine (atleast thats what i think you showing in the video) and i have it since a few years now. it hasn't caused any issues besides the sound (and at this point i'm far away from the ps5 where i don't hear it anyway), so at this point its fine. you also notice how the coil whine changes depending on the game you play and how much fps/graphic intensive it is
(1:28) DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS!! Different game discs have different levels of noise when putting them into your PS5, this is a result of the disc drive potentially needing to spin faster if the game is quite big. Just because a loud buzzing sound comes from *some* of the discs doesn’t mean that the source of the buzzing isn’t coming from the disc drive.
@@gaminghedgehog6384 exactly, we own it, because Sony and Microsoft are bugging physical games intentionally with a malware system software updates since ps4, physical is now a scam
So many possible problems and therefore so many possible solutions. I’d consider replacing the fan with a different brand/model or maybe even a different type like liquid cooling. Not saying any of those would be the answer but it would be on my list of considerations.

I wouldn’t go that far. There are few reports. It’s early to tell if it’s a design issue or just bad luck. I don’t know if you remember the panic, when the OG launched, about PS5s being bricked by leaving games in rest mode on external drives, or something. Turned out to be a very specific issue that was actually quite rare. What I mean is that hopefully is much ado about nothing. Cheers.

@@GalaxyReacher that’s a fair assessment actually.

OG Ps5 series 12 is the Best👍👍
@@DavideDavini the fat ps3s?
Sounds like a turboprop plane. Wish I could afford both a ps5 and xbox though, ps5's a cool machine!
I played god of war on performance graphics for 20 minutes and my device was making this sound. Is this normal? 2:09
same… I hid as far away as possible, it’s worse than my ps4 slim
Unfortunately, yes. The Slims have a really loud disc drive.
Well, yeah , I got the Phat PS5 , I think it got most of these sounds . It's almost 3 years, and it works :) I hope it will last until PS6 😢
Welcome to Sony Airlines
Took the covers off and put them back on, easy fix (:
My 1st edition ps5 dont make that much noise using a disk
But that's what Apple is known for, they do this intentionally.
@@bademoderndesigns5962 I have 4 different charging cables, so there’s not any difference at all unfortunately. I have an iPhone 8 Plus (owned it for 3 1/2 years) but even the other iPhones I’ve had I never ran into any problems there.
The ps5 pro will have this problem. LMAO. 699.99 with tax plus buying a disc drive 79.99
The disc drive is only loud for a second, and the weird noise coming from my slim was jusr a weird plate. Still a very good console i love it
😮😮😮😮 this sounds hard ...i dont haven ...even i dont wanted ... But sounds like a jet
So is slim overall louder than standard PS5?
Looks like it from this video.
Could you test with a noise meter for us.
The slim is so quiet bro. He has a high end mic close to the console you arent hearing sounds like this in real life out of your ears. Especially if u play digital games u aren’t hearing console noise
@@AP90x Glad to hear it
Low quality microphones are usually the ones adding compression and distortion making everything louder
Yes the slim is decently louder than the og on average
@@ajju9233 no it isnt.
@@AP90xThen why is the fan louder on my slim compared to my OG PS5?
Prime example of why they should have never touched the OG PS5 and should just be working on PS6 don’t touch what’s not broken…

PS3 fat sucked, dead in no time
No, the OG has more HDMI port detachment issues 😂
@@saltevelinecan you point me to actual statistics data? I’m curious.

I had to replace my HDMI, but that's the only issue I've ever had with my OG. Still run buttery smooth and super quiet. @DavideDavini
@@ShapeshifteR-TheAnomalyGameCat I still have my fat ps3 with reverse compatibility and it still works
That sounds like the old Iomega ZIP drive failure when the actual seek mechanism would fail. Not the old "click of death" from the ZIP drive.
Horrible! Glad I own the launch version. Zero issues! Over 4.5 years straight!
Bro’s owned his PS5 before it even came out lmao it’s not even been out for 4 years
@@S-1_24-25 3.5 years! lmao
That's the PlayStation 5 telling you that's a shit game
Me: I am scared my console actually does a sound
1:50 ...that's the sound
Sounds like a bike game on master system i used to play.
I would like to know how common / uncommon this issue is. Is there a way to find out the commonality of this problem? The reason i ask is i just bought a slim one month ago.
I have a question,
Is it okay to keep the ps5 plugged into AC power socket all the time?
I always fully shut it down after I'm finished playing, but i don't unplug it. Is it okay?
It's ok to have plugged in
No it's not okay, it's going to overheat and explode, setting your house on fire. Millions of people have already died this way.
Yeah, it’s a console, they’re designed to kept plug in
Which is better ps5 or ps5 slim
It's still wild that the PS5 slim is that loud. The Xbox Series X disc drive is effectively silent next to my PS5. It's so annoying that I just stopped buying physical games for PlayStation all together.
Guys I am in India should I buy ps5 slim disc or ps5 disc
its coil whine (atleast thats what i think you showing in the video) and i have it since a few years now. it hasn't caused any issues besides the sound (and at this point i'm far away from the ps5 where i don't hear it anyway), so at this point its fine. you also notice how the coil whine changes depending on the game you play and how much fps/graphic intensive it is
its not the coil whine
The noise being presented in this video is not "coil whine".
Thx. U saved my ps5 slim
Sounds like an aircraft Set power. LOL.
Sound pitch seems consistent with the disc drive.
That’s just sad to see people spend their hard earned money on a console and Sony just don’t give a damn about it.
I want to buy ps5 for like 2 years but never have a chance
Wait for ps5 pro!
I seen used ones now cheap

Need to return my og ps5. It only turns on after like 6-10 attempts. It's the opposite of a teenager.
?????
We mowing the loan with this one🔥🔥🔥
(1:28) DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS!! Different game discs have different levels of noise when putting them into your PS5, this is a result of the disc drive potentially needing to spin faster if the game is quite big. Just because a loud buzzing sound comes from *some* of the discs doesn’t mean that the source of the buzzing isn’t coming from the disc drive.
I still on the PS2 looks like every new PS has a problem
Am avoiding physical games, ps5slim digital is the future
Until they remove them and you're not able to download/play the games ever again 🤷♂️
@@borky1987so? They can’t legally do that lmao. Ima sue them

@@gaminghedgehog6384 exactly, we own it, because Sony and Microsoft are bugging physical games intentionally with a malware system software updates since ps4, physical is now a scam
You delusional lil bro
So many possible problems and therefore so many possible solutions. I’d consider replacing the fan with a different brand/model or maybe even a different type like liquid cooling. Not saying any of those would be the answer but it would be on my list of considerations.
PS5 Last revison 1208A/B, same as ps5 slim og wit minute difference like front usb type, storage, dimensions & etc,
note : vertical kills ps performance.
Almost sounds like a Jet engine.

Why would i need that

I just bought my disc drive for my PS5 pro it works perfectly 🎉
Get the digital version or buy PlayStation colored covers and make your disc version a digital version remove the drive. It will be fine.
what a dumb solution
My OG digital PS5 never had issues or makes any sounds 🤙🏼
Mine neither
I have the original PS5
Even fat models have this sound with some discs
Thank you, this helped me lots.
So the slim is a piece of CRAP.....🤔
I wouldn’t go that far. There are few reports. It’s early to tell if it’s a design issue or just bad luck. I don’t know if you remember the panic, when the OG launched, about PS5s being bricked by leaving games in rest mode on external drives, or something. Turned out to be a very specific issue that was actually quite rare.
What I mean is that hopefully is much ado about nothing.
Cheers.

@@djj1my PS4 Pro Death Stranding edition is very quiet, another instance where the OG version was worse. 😂
Jokes aside, I have an OG PS5 with the super massive cooling system and it is indeed very quiet. This is vibration noise, not the cooling fan. It’s a whole different can of worms. 😂
Cheers mate and happy gaming.
@@DavideDavini My PS4 pro was quiet until i booted up Last of Us 2....lol
I fixed this issue by using those round pads that you put under chairs to make them slide better, inside the disk drive cover. They are about 3mm thick and I installed them directly where the disk drive comes.
The slim was obviously going to be a bad buy especially when the price point in less than a standard 5. Crazy how it’s borderline ps4 jet. Good to know about that issue
Ps5 slim gonna be the next sony airline
