This has to be one of the best places I have ever seen Matt and Andy. You did really well getting in there unseen I am sat here thinking please don't let them get caught lol. It was well worth it and its absolutely amazing. Shame about all that damp though but its probably the guttering being clogged up with mud and leaves. My husband has to clean ours out as it was causing damp for us too. Rich people like this should get someone out to do the job. You had a great write up in the Sun online the time you went .. I'm not posting it here though it was lovely to read.
This has to be one of my favorites, if not my absolute Favorite! Beautiful, breathtaking, unique and elegant. Such a wonderful, well taken care of and loved place.
The amount of gilded bronze in the place is amazing. As is the decoration. But I wish you hadn't said that it was a Bond location, as those locations are easily found. The book you opened was the Kouran, and there were a number of middle eastern objets d'art, so it wouldn't be a stretch to assume the owner was from that area. With the cost of maintaining a place like that, you'd have to have cash flowing as from a pipeline. I was kind of surprised to see the low ceilings in the bedrooms, though. I think those might have been sunlamps over the tub in the 007 room. Kind of anticlimactic to see a four poster with low ceilings. But then, this is new money and that doesn't necessarily come with taste. A lot of the decoration upstairs is rather tacky and new. Was hoping to see the attics and basement.
As always with massive houses like this the top floor was generally for the staff to live in smaller rooms with smaller windows... I think they have put the bedrooms at the top of the house and that is why the ceilings were lower.. Also you get the added problem of hiding wires so the ceilings were probably lowered for that reason! This building was very grand in its day But times change And money is usually the main motivation for that
Wow beautiful place! It is basically move in ready, so well kept. I hope they do something with it instead of let it fall apart and decay. Just amazing! :O
The name of this castle is Shrubland Hall and the actual owner is Muhammad Farmer who bought it for more than £6m ($7 711 800,00 US) in 2009. Thanks for this incredible video!
It's a Georgian Mansion. Grade 2 listed and grade 1 listed gardens. Historic England has investigated the deterioration of the building and it's been classified as at risk for many years. Since this owner has had it. Owners of listed buildings are liable to prosecution for not maintaining them. Locals have complained it's becoming a blot on the landscape. He should have sold it. Failed attempt at a hotel for under a year. He has devalued it via lack of maintenance. High value property market in the UK is in a slump with brexit also. But the house could be seized by the courts if it deteriorated much more. He also illegally did unauthorised building work.. you cannot do that to listed property.. this makes me so angry. It was sold by a Lord to pay inheritance tax.
