  • “Embracing Neurodiversity today, can help companies succeed in the new world tomorrow”. These are the words of Helen Needham, an autistic Neurodiversity advocate. Technological advancements of the fourth industrial revolution are changing the world at an unprecedented rate. We need different thinking but many of the top skills needed are in short supply. How do we fill the skills gap? Helen talks of being part of a Neurodiverse family, and struggling before learning that that being Neurodivergent can be a benefit in the workplace. She shares her vision to bring about a world where the Neurodivergent are valued, so that everyone can benefit. It starts with a conversation. Helen Needham is a Neurodiversity advocate, founder of Me.Decoded, and a financial services management consultant at Capco. She is focused on bringing about a world where the Neurodivergent are valued. Being part of a neurodiverse family, Helen has experienced first hand the challenges that being neurodivergent can have, and has seen what is possible with the right understanding, environment and support. This is something she wants for all Neurodivergent thinkers. A change she is already starting to bring about. Through Me.Decoded, Helen has provided an online platform where the Neurodivergent and allies can share their personal experiences and insights. At Capco, Helen has launched an employee Neurodiversity network. Initiatives which are helping people to find the courage to speak up about their unique perspectives and state what they need to be successful. Now Helen is looking to take this to the next level as she calls for everyone to embrace Neurodiversity. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

What a great message. Thank you for your work. I see so much value in the neurodivergent people I have known. Your argument makes perfect sense. Communities and companies should see making changes isn't just to meet the needs of their neurodivergent members, but that those changes can lead to added value in unexpected ways.
