@@grainificent same for me haha Thanks so much for the Intro. I just checked the battery and my needle is at the top doesnt move anywhere. Does this mean i need to change the battery? Thanks
@enzomauro90 yes, when you turn the power switch to "battery check" the needle should drop down to the battery check area to notify you that it is a good battery. make sure you put the battery in correctly. if changing the battery to a completely new one doesnt help, it may mean there is something wrong with the light meter... but lets hope its just a dead battery :)
@@grainificent thanks for all your feedback and information. Really appreciated and helpful for a beginner. Another question does scratches or dirt on the focusing screen has any impact on the image? i just checked the focusing screen on my XD7 and there are a few minor scratches and dust....curious if i still can make good picture with it.
Was doing photo documentation for a construction company in 1982 and dropped my SRT101 ten feet onto a pile of lumber. Lens and camera were fine. Great lens too, the Rokkor 58mm f1.4. Minolta glass was second to none. They built lenses for Leica.
Found your channel today. An old family friend gave me this camera which used to belong to her late husband. I haven't used a film camera since 2004. I am anxious to relearn how to use this one.
if it sounds well, it should work well :) the battery is only for the light meter so you dont need it to start taking photos :) sunny 16 rule or a phone app that measures light :) good luck! :)
I have an art 101, which had jammed, well it was stuck on S and the timer was stuck at 45 degrees. I finally got it to get un stuck, but it doesn’t wind without film inside it like yours did. Am I doing something wrong? Or is that the way it’s supposed to work? Thnk you for the video I really appreciate it.
yes, it should wind without film put in... i would advise taking it into a shop to get it looked at or just buying a new one if it doesn't hold much value to you.
about the exposure up line is for underexpose photos and line down is for over expose thats correct? it helps me a lot, i dont have any idea if my exposimeter works correctly
@@grainificent does the triangle marking at the top means less light is being let in while the triangle marking at the top mean more light being let in? every time i point to a light source, my sharp needle moves closer below while if i move away it moves closer up
@@onlykyqq yes, the more light there is, the lower the needle will move :) and opposite is also correct :) overexposure is at the bottom and underexposure on the top :)
Hi, I have a question about this, I just got this camera. When I do the battery check the sharp needle is in the right position but as soon as I put it ON I goes all the way and it then mean « under exposed ». But whenever I move or I change the speed or anything else the sharp needles stays up. Is that an issue? Thanks in advance for the feedback :)
@@Sarata_Van the thin needle should move around depending on what you point it at. try different lighting scenarios. set it to f16 and ISO 400 and point it towards the sky and then towards something dark. the thin needle should be moving around. if it doesn't then there could be a problem with the light meter itself. hopefully all works great for you :)
Hey, just revived one of these that may be damaged was wondering if yours when you move the shutter speed back and forth fast it sounds like a timer that is going off, i tested this with a few of my other older film cameras and did not get this sound and was just wondering if this is something that is normal for this camera.
in mine i don't hear much but there is a noticeable sound near the 1/60s mark. if the shutter keeps the speeds by ear then it shouldn't be much of a problem. you should go through a roll and test different shutter speeds. If the photos come out good then it just might be needing some lube instead of repairs. a good shop should be able to take it apart, lube it and put it back together within 2-5 min. different cameras can have different shutter speed control mechanisms :)
I always recommend fomapan 400 if its accessible in your area :) its the cheapest so you can shoot more for the same price. Often more than 2 times cheaper than others. After you get to know exposure and composition and get to love shooting on film, you can experiment with different film stocks to find what you like best :)
Absolutely love this channel! Very down to earth and coherent
Thank you! 😃 i try my best to keep things short and on point 😃
Just got this camera while cleaning up some of my grandparents stuff and I'm so excited to start using this, this video is incredibly helpful!
I'm happy i could help! 😃

Hi, does changing the ISO meter at the top right affects anything?
Hello, with no battery in, it doesn't affect anything. It affects the meter when you have a battery in and use the metering :)
which film would you recommend for beginner?

That is correct. The battery is only needed for the light meter. You can use a phone app light meter or the sunny 16 rule
