If you're visiting the US and you're excited to go to Walmart, I cannot recommend Waffle House highly enough. It is the worst best place I can almost guarantee you will enjoy.

Krispy Kreme. Not unique to the Northeast, but it's iconic. If they only go to one baseball game, it has to be at Fenway Park.
As a non American our big box stores are no WalMart. It is worth seeing if you haven't
