Wouldn't it have been easier if you had taken the whole thing out instead of separating the middle plastic piece? Cause when I did mine, i couldn't unscrew the circuit piece on the middle piece to put it on the new piece, plus the ribbon cable is a pain in the ass, I forgot my joycons were so messed up from analog stick drifting and I glued a cap to it and the backing of my joycons were glued, that doing this with my old joycons would be a pain. I would have to buy new joycons to do this. But I did do one of them and it was easy except for one issue, some of it was so old from problems that it broke. Don't do this with very old, worn out joycons cause they will break easily but I think everyone knows launch joycons were pretty bad.
Thank you. We tried to take the whole thing out without separate the middle piece, but we found it can not reduce the difficulty. I think the most important thing is patient and carefully, also slowly. And for an old Joycons, I think replace a new joystick at the same time is a good idea :)
@@ExtremeRate the video helped tremendously though considering alot of TH-camrs just take em out piece by piece but never the whole inside, so your video is very very instructional.
Amazing product, amazing guide. I do have a problem though, my right joycon trigger is not working now. I've tried removing and replacing the ribbon more precisely but with the same result. Please help
Why doesn't the dpad pivot like a dpad should? On a normal Dpad, you shouldn't be able to press all 4 sides at once. These do, effectively making them no better than the 4 individual buttons.
So I have checked your website extremerate.com and I found the prices to be much cheaper than your amazon store. When I checked the D-Pad Joy Cons, the product disclaimer reads: Package includes: as shown in picture 4 in 1 set Joy Con Shells (*without any buttons included*) Does that mean that _without any buttons included_ extends to no D-Pad button as well? I tried getting clarification by emailing your website, but I got no response. If there's no D-Pad button included, then doesn't that defeat the purpose of purchasing the shells off your website in the first place?
I don't know if you ever got an answer to this question but it seems as though they in fact don't come with the separate buttons (dpad as well). They however do sell the buttons separately on their site. I figure they expect you to buy both the shell and the button sets, which add up to be roughly the price of what you'd see on Amazon.
Hi I just wanted to know that if I bought something from you off Amazon would everything the same such as the screwdriver or the extra screws and when will you add more orange joycon shells as there aren't many
So using the appropriate bit (I had a single driver with two bits) I was able to get two of the screws out on each joy con. The other two screws on each joy con however stripped, and the other bit is too large to fit. How do you suggest I go about remedying this, as I refuse to drill into the screw.
Please refer to this www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+Remove+a+Stripped+Screw/13213 If it doesn't work, then we have to destroy the shell to make things done
Just waiting for the stock to hit Amazon! I cannot wait. Going matte red along with the pro controller for a complete look. Which since I'm here may I ask... Do you plan to sell a matte red switch dock faceplate? I see you got a few colors up now (chameleon is so beautiful. I did a friend's joycons in them. So hard to give them up lol) Edit. Man. Another question. Will the dpad be available in matte red XD
After doing this, everything worked like a charm, but the left joy-con doesn't get recognized as attached and also doesn't charge anymore. I re-opened it and made sure everything looks like in the video, but it doesn't change anything. Right joy-con doesn't get recognized as attached, either, but does actually charge, somehow. Any ideas what I could do to charge the left joy-con before it runs out of power?
Please make sure the flex of the left joycon's slide part were attached correctly and firmly. And for the right joycon, since it can be charged, please find another one switch console to attach and see if it can be recognized, if yes, then turn back to your console, we found someone fix the problem in this way.

ExtremeRate yeah, that part that’s transparent around the home logo should be black, it would make the look much better. It doesn’t light up or anything so might as well make it colored.
My black screws stripped and I’m unable to fix my buttons. The right joy con with the plus and the home button are stuck inside like maybe the plastic rubber cushion is crooked or something. I bought a pair of SNES Joyon Shells with the Dpad and my left joy con does not seal as nice as my original joy cons. On the current model of Joycons (Switch OLED bought in 2024), the conductive tracks of the ZR/ZL Trigger wiring (shown at 2:14), face the board. The problem remains the same, the microswitches fixed on the printed circuit board are of poor quality. It is not worth the flexibility of the rubber membranes, without microswitch which makes noise, and which wears out very quickly (throttle to throw away once they are worn?). If in addition we add a cross so that we press strongly on 2 directions at the same time can wear them out even faster. You have to do something big N, it's a shame after having obliged us on competing brands to respect your patent for the cross that you invented... Poor children, your thing is not at all ergonomic, they will end up with osteoarthritis. When it comes to kirby pay systems online, it's not clear either, it has nothing to do with this kind of games that have already invaded smartphones, what's the point of dealing with a game publisher that sells consoles at the same time, who can't guarantee that we don't take advantage of young people with this business?

@@YamiAnubisX Thank you again :)
Amazing product, amazing guide. I do have a problem though, my right joycon trigger is not working now. I've tried removing and replacing the ribbon more precisely but with the same result. Please help
i'm having the same problem with the ZR button. did you ever figure out what the problem was?
Why doesn't the dpad pivot like a dpad should? On a normal Dpad, you shouldn't be able to press all 4 sides at once. These do, effectively making them no better than the 4 individual buttons.
Because it’s just an button change. They can’t change the hardware of the joycon.
@@BeepasGarage Making this worthless. A dpad that can't pivot is unusable.
@@Suiax blame nintendo. Still better than the tiny directional buttons.
@@BeepasGarage no it is not. No separation means mis-presses are easier.
@@Suiax maybe if you have sausage fingers
So I have checked your website extremerate.com and I found the prices to be much cheaper than your amazon store. When I checked the D-Pad Joy Cons, the product disclaimer reads:
Package includes: as shown in picture 4 in 1 set Joy Con Shells (*without any buttons included*)
Does that mean that _without any buttons included_ extends to no D-Pad button as well? I tried getting clarification by emailing your website, but I got no response.
If there's no D-Pad button included, then doesn't that defeat the purpose of purchasing the shells off your website in the first place?
I don't know if you ever got an answer to this question but it seems as though they in fact don't come with the separate buttons (dpad as well). They however do sell the buttons separately on their site. I figure they expect you to buy both the shell and the button sets, which add up to be roughly the price of what you'd see on Amazon.
Could you make a lego Like Guide book With step by step?
Thanks for your suggestion, we will think about it!
@@ExtremeRate IT would be awesome. Thanks, i will wait for it 👍
Hi I just wanted to know that if I bought something from you off Amazon would everything the same such as the screwdriver or the extra screws and when will you add more orange joycon shells as there aren't many
So using the appropriate bit (I had a single driver with two bits) I was able to get two of the screws out on each joy con.
So hard to give them up lol)
Edit. Man. Another question. Will the dpad be available in matte red XD
Every thing will have matte red, include dock faceplate and dpad ;)
@@ExtremeRate YAASSSS. Matte Red all the things!
Hi there, I followed your tutorial and even the new one for installing the zr button, but mine still won’t work. I’m unsure of what to do as I know for sure I’m installing the ribbon the correct way as I followed the updated tutorial. Any ideas on why the button still won’t work?
Please check if there is any damage to the flex cable or the connector of it.
Can i buy white d-pad shell with yellow button in single bill. Or need to buy separate white d-pad shell and then yellow button. Because in amazon, i see there’s likely cannot order those thing in single bill.
You have to buy them separately and then checkout together
You guys should make the home button fully black, that would be beautiful.
How about the transparent circle of the home button?
ExtremeRate yeah, that part that’s transparent around the home logo should be black, it would make the look much better. It doesn’t light up or anything so might as well make it colored.
@@ecuity If we paint it, the light will not shine through
ExtremeRate there’s light? I didn’t know that lol

I wanted to use this tutorial to fix my joycon, but I successfully got rid of the charging rail and I have no clue, where it is thank past me
What’s up with thst green outline around the d-pad
Are this Joycon shells compatible with the new version of the Switch?
What do you mean by new version of the Switch? did you mean Switch Lite?
There's no different Joy-Con versions. (OK the antenna is at a different place, but I don't have heard anything that the shells are different?!)
How is the dpad with fighting games like qcf punch or dragon punches in street fighter?
My black screws stripped and I’m unable to fix my buttons. The right joy con with the plus and the home button are stuck inside like maybe the plastic rubber cushion is crooked or something. I can’t use those buttons and when I try to fix them I can’t take the back shell off since black screws are stripped. Any suggestions??? I just spent so much time and thought I was solid, I wanna cry....

i seemed to have broke something :( the left joycon works when wireless, but when docked in, the left joycon doesn't "click" in and is not recognized. i did pull out a ribbon cable, but it doesnt appear that it was damaged at all and i dont see any damage elsewhere. how can i fix this?
Please try to unplug the sliderail flex cable from the left joycon mainboard, and then plug it in again, do it carefully and make sure the connection is correct
Ugh the right trigger stopped working when I did this... The ribbon connection is in and everything 😭😭😭
We are sorry, you may mislead by the video to make the ZR flex plugged upside-down, please refer to this video th-cam.com/video/kZXZtSFUAcs/w-d-xo.html
I bought a pair of SNES Joyon Shells with the Dpad and my left joy con does not seal as nice as my original joy cons. In fact when I close them all the way with the screws I have a weird lump on the back part on. I suspect its could be the battery, but I also suspect it could be the tiny cross on the back of the dpad form the other side of the controller.
Has anyone else ran into this issue? If so any suggestions on what should I do?
Is the bottom shell of the joycon was bent or not?
@@ExtremeRate If by bottom shell you mean the side of the Joycon where the release button is. Yes it would bend when I finished the reassembly, put the battery in and closed it.
@@xGizmox23 Oh, I think I misunderstood. So the problem may possibly from the position of the release button, please try to make it stay in the place it supposes to.
How long does this process generally take in real time?
For the Joycons, if that is your first time to do, normally 2 to 2.5 hours. We suggest you do it slowly and carefully :)
Took me 3 hours...
My button broke off the little chip for the ZL button when i took out the original ZL button. Ugh. Very happy with the fit, feel, and look of the atomic purple joycon shells and buttons otherwise. Anyone know if i can get a new button?
Do you know if it would be possible to remove the metal domes on the board and replace the silicone pad with a pad with rubber dome switches?
We never tried that, but it must be an extremely complicated job.
Guys, are the inner box change absolutely necessary?
What is inner box? Do you mean the middle piece inside the joycon? If so, it's unnecessary.
Yes, I mean the plastic piece that goes under the battery and hold the z triggers. I'm waiting for my shell today and start the change. Thanks for the answer :3

Did you also swap the console back shell?

@@JH-uh9zc I think the slide rail of the joycon has defected. If possible, you can replace the slide rail from the functional joycon to the defected one, if it works, then you can make sure that was the slide rail issue.
