I run a 6th 24h low and 44 hz high tuned but there are a lot of people who run a musical 4th order similiar setup to a 6th but without the port a little bigger sealed section creates the lows and you tune the front port around 46 hz Jp does this design now this year as his 6th order last year was blowing his subs.
I have the Transmission line style box but the transmission is regular length not super long but I do believe it is effective. I think Jacobviral has the 6th order type you speak of
@@CarAudioEnthusiasts I've read that with a 4th order bandpass, the port is your low pass filter. So him saying 45 is because he still wants the sub to hit 50-60hz.
I have a hybrid bass reflex transmission line t-box with a b2 xm4-15”sub doing over a 54 from the trunk.. 250ah prismatic lithium powering a B2 zero.9 osprey & a Singer 390 alt.. All sandwiched in a 2004 cavalier..lol
Can you review your take on measuring for a ported box? Calculating for chamber, port, adding for wood thickness. Example 3 12’s w/ 2.5 cu.ft. each @ 32hz.
I’ve got a lot of experience with music studio and live music because this comes naturally being around talented musicians and audio engineers. I’m over here wondering what 4th and 5th order means lol. There no “best” in car audio setups because this depends on the automobiles acoustics. The goal is to have clear audio which isn’t synonymous with “louder” audio. Just like more wattage doesn’t means louder sound. Hence, why my five watt tube guitar amp sounds louder than my twenty five watt solid state amp. Also, cheap speakers attribute more low end and are inefficient so it makes sense why companies compensate with higher wattage amplifiers.
I wanna do a Fourth order for my Eight 6.5” Sundowns with a 5k. Currently got them in a vented box tuned to 40hz on a 2k. It’s pretty decent but I want more, also this is in a 96’ ford ranger ext cab.
I saw a dude with a ranger and a 1.5:1 ratio 4th order blow-through using 4 ZVX 4 or 5 nightshades and getting 153db and slamming the lows down to 19hz and whatnot. And that was without a bed capper, just a tonneau cover.
@@thejester8136 Ah, I didn't see that you had an extended cab on my first read. For that, I've seen 2 ZVX 12s with an external port, but IDK what is metered at.
i did some research awhile ago reading some older loudspeaker stuff, and from what i gathered, the second chamber porting (6th series) acts more like a lowpass filter, rather than a second peak tuning... if i remember, bandwith higher that the second ports tuning, will roll off at 18db per octave... is this not accurate??? i havnt built one, so i cant speak on experience... thanks
I think some ppl only count the order in the actualy box, what is it if you open a window? Traped in a 8th order? Budget basshead have a Great vid about this🤙
well youll notice your spl DB change with an open window..lol you tell me? orders are tricky, and stuff like visor moved, and seats moved changes tune, all this means the entire cabin is part of the enclosure.
One thing that I always wondered, if I am running two of the same exact woofer (2 skar VXF 12”) Can I have two woofers running as a single woofer with both boxes tuned slightly differently? Like box A 30hz box b 45hz
you can, but its much easier to get that wrong, than to get it right. its basically like tuning a 6th order except using 2 seperate subs and enclosures.
Thank you so much for this insight. I've always done ported boxes. I am now currently looking into a 6th for my 2020 4runner. it will be 3 emf banhammer 12's and wanting to have a nice sq build. I am trying to think. should I do a ported or 6th. I don't want to port to rear hatch and destroy it. Would definitely like ur recommendations? I followed all the build u mentioned, from the sundown 4th, to exo's van way back to his Frankenstein.
Love ur videos but I have to disagree with ur 4th order opinion, got a 4th doing 160+ from 25-55hz, tuned to 42hz, I feel like whatever u heard might have had the wrong size of sealed section
I agree most are geared towards higher spl numbers, and also after 25hz I have a considerable drop so not as windy as Jerry ain’t loud but it still pretty windy at 25
The main thing I liked about listening to 4ths was the body pressure. 6ths were louder and more windy, but nothing poked my eardrums or vibrated my sternum and sinuses like a 2 or 3 4th order bandpass trucks I listened to.
@CarAudioEnthusiasts 8th order is like a car with a 6th order inside it, if the car is counted as an enclosure. btw, I made a 4th order by hanging a sealed automotive box from the ceiling in my basement, then enclosing an area in the joists & cutting a port under my couch. Now, in my home theater, there are a pair of 12s under your feet.
I was willing to listen along until you tried to say the 6th order bandpass has the most musicality. You are dead wrong about that. No mention of phase, time delay, or cone control, so you clearly don’t understand why somebody would build a 4th order bandpass instead. Also, a vented enclosure is a 4th order, same as a 4th order bandpass just a different electrical equivalent. It’s pretty common in HT to use a tiny 4th order vented enclosure tuned very low (like 20Hz) strictly for the cone control at low frequencies but to end up with the exact same output curve, and time delay as an equivalent sized sealed enclosure. In a vehicle build, the correct way to approach the design phase is to sweep the shell and decide if the cabin gain benefits from a 6th order orientation or if the bottom end is reinforced enough you would be wise to use a 4th order bandpass to avoid all the issues that come with 6th order implementation. The guys who build good 6th orders don’t just get lucky they really know what they are doing. If you don’t know exactly what you are doing it will be a disaster I can promise that
This could be the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a long time. I’ve heard a lot of 4th orders that tear the lows up. For you to say that they are just good for one thing really shows your ignorance on what a good 4th order can do. Mine peaks at 41 but I can still bust a 157 at 24hz. Man, do better.
Hey there I like this information I just got me a sound system and just wanted to hear base. This is a lot to learn about different ways on building speaker boxes, and frequency

I love 4th and the non existing 4.5 order is what I'm running, and everyone loves it !
Normally you go up an entire order, adding an energy storing mass (port, pr, horn, air volume, etc...) care to explain?
I have 4x 15's inside ported top chamber, with 2x 15's added to front of box behind seats

Thank you for the explanation when you break down every enclosure it simplified everything thank you another great job
Very welcome
By 4th order is 6ft³ total. 2:1 ratio port:sealed. Tuned at 45hz. And it's a great daily spl build
but 45hz.....man those are highs! lol, im a 28hz kinda guy.

The higher the ratio the louder at a lower q but less bandwidth. I aim for 1/1.3 working for me
@@josephhammond2557 mine is 2:1 and it's a great daily spl build
Thanks for that explanation, much appreciated!
My pleasure!

When inverting subs do you reverse the polarity? If so what difference does it make?
honestly you dont have to, as long as theyre all the same polarity. but you can, yes.

whats your opinion on proper rear port area for 6th? 5-7 sq in per cube? 10?
not my area, but normally on a 6th you tube the bottom like any ported enclosure, so use ported specs for the drivers
