Seems that the fridge needs to be defrosted and cleaned. You take everything out and it either has some button/setting for that or you just unplug it and leave the door open for the ice to melt (watch out as the ice turns into water and has to go somewhere, better if not on the floor). Then you clean the inside of the fridge and you can plug it back in and put the food back in too. Anyway, has to be cleaned when there is substantial ice buildup in the freezer.
Btw, heat pumps and refrigerators are more or less the same thing and they are kinda magic as efficiency is super high - a few times higher than 100%. Mentioning this because you are studying environmental sciences. Anyway, instead of spending the electricity to convert it into thermal energy, they use it to move thermal energy between the system and the outside of the system. I suppose you could also say that they are harvesting thermal energy..

You are right, and the problem is that the refrigerator is very old and the ice accumulates quickly😭

@@mirasnotes Yeah looks like one from before the revolution (1989) and seems to be missing the freezer's door too but not 100% sure as you can only partially see the freezer in the video. Your refrigerator is a communist lol. Comrade Frosty haha
I don't know, maybe in case you are the one paying the electricity bill, might be cheaper to get a new one or to share the costs of a new fridge with the owner of the place. Guessing a new one at that size is 200 euros and up, class E or F but still likely much more efficient at around 20 kWh per month.
The ice is due to humidity and likely it doesn't have ventilation so what's the solution to reduce the humidity that reaches the freezer?

@@mirasnotes Oh you are staying in the dorm, you are not renting right? Yeah, then you can't share the costs of a new fridge and likely you are not paying the electricity bill either so no need to explore the option of a new fridge.
