One nitpick: trackball mouses do not have a funny ball that was replaced by a scroll wheel. That is the ball mouses originally had but put on the top instead. Also, these were considered gaming equipment for some time because trackballs were considered more precise than standard mouses due to controlling the ball directly.
Modern laser trackballs are still the most precise device you can use, but require a whole other skillset compared to a normal mouse to use effectively. I used one at an old job and got really good with it. Especially for playing Minecraft on break.
