The nostalgia hit me like a ton of 🅱️rown 🅱️ricks.
I won't like this because you already have 69 likes
Being a 90’s kid, I spent countless hours watching reruns of this show. It was easily one of the most present cartoon programs on Canadian television of the early-mid 90’s.
used to watch this every morning before school in the early 90's on Global lol
Glad you guys got to enjoy it too!
@@_alexsummerz_ Haha, I remember that.
I am a 2000 kid, I remember seeing this on TV early mornings still pretty often in around 04-07. Pretty cool how many generations got to grow up with the same shows.
This is one of Cinemassacre’s most underrated videos, it’s so much fun and nostalgic
Agreed 🍩
Glad they're reposting these since scrolling through the videos is difficult due to their numerousness
Agreed. This is one of my favorite videos that James ever did on the site! So happy it's back up in it's full glory.
How is it underrated when it just came out?? 😅
@@johns3491 It's a repost from 2011, son. You've made a grave mistake
I like seeing 🅱️rown 🅱️ricks in this cartoon. It's the most fun you could possibly have while watching a show.
Beat me to it ,lol.
wut
@@kennypitts4829 If you know, you know
@@mrmii6596 It's a reference to gays in the military. Got it.
@@mrmii6596 I totally know
Man its wild that nostalgic videos about something by the Nerd are now nostalgic to watch.
Yeah i was thinking that as well, nostalception.
YES! I've gotten to the point where I'd rather just hear James talk then watch a nerd video. Everyone knows who he is he doesn't have to keep doing the nerd. I'd like to see him try his hand at modern retro style games like Hollow knight
@@Games_and_Music nostalgia critic's videos are also nostalception though
I loved this one. Such good memories. I always loved AVGN because James had the same kind of childhood as I did ! During the day, we played video games and watched Nickelodeon.
Then, at nighttime we were introduced to adult humor and themes on NICK at NIGHT. I remember this very video in 11' It's hard to believe so much time has gone by. We have ALL gotten older!
Nothing but good memories
@@PowertipBrushhead Yes! Same here! 😁
Same! I'm a 90s baby but I had a similar childhood.
@@kdusel199190's was the same! It was paradise on earth for a while! ☺
@@PowertipBrushhead mmm yep
This video is closer to the year 2000 than we are to the original airdate now.
Damn!!
And the significance of that is...?
🤯
@@r0bw00d time what the fuck else dummy
@@r0bw00d very very little to none actually
Will never forget that one Mike video...
AGH....that damn themesong...lol I've had that thing stuck in my head for DECADES since I watched this show so much as a kid...I'll still find myself humming bits and pieces of it while out grocery shopping or just going about my day. I think I rented the game once...either that or I'm remembering a play through of it I watched at one point...
Frank Welker has also been voicing Freddy Jones in the Scooby-Doo franchise since it originated in 1969.
I remember there was a marathon of the show and my grandma recorded it for me on a few VHS. I watched it so many times.
Really happy to see older videos with full footage popping back up again.
So am I! It's always nice to see the full video and not just stills.
Yeah this was a great rewatch
As a kid I saw a little bit of _Get Smart._ I remembered that he was a dumb secret agent, but I just watched every episode of the show last year, and there's a lot more going on than just one guy who's dumb. Every aspect of the spy world was played for laughs. The gadgets the agents were provided with were ridiculous, the agency, Control, was so super secret that no one was supposed to know about it, yet at the same time everyone knew about it. The evil plots were needlessly complicated, the murders were just weird. (Drowning a person in a phone-booth, and turning someone into mannequin for instance.) There was a death struggle between the good guys, Control, and the bad guys, Kaos, yet at times they put aside their differences to, say, atend a funeral for a double agent were they split the expenses 50-50, since he was technically working or both of them. There were so many spy phrases and secret passwords and double agents that agents on both sides can't keep it all straight. It wasn't just one dumb guy, the whole situation was ridiculous. Smart himself was- it's like he put all his points into spycraft, and because of that he was lacking common sense. He wasn't always an idiot, a lot of times he was, but very often he was put in absurd scenarios where his antics actually make sense.
Love these old 80s and 90s cartoon retrospectives!
The infiltration is a good episode with presto chango
My favorite scene with Mad Cat was when he tied Dr Claw's arm to his chair. That is burned into my memory as it was so funny.
The intro song was very catchy, I had forgotten that aspect. I remember playing with Gadget's and Dr Claw's toy vehicles, they were great.
I loved watching this show when I was a little kid. I can feel the nostalgia oozing from it.
I have thought of the theory of Dr.claw being Penny's dad.
Its surreal to feel nostalgic for reviews about nostalgia
6:23 I’m glad that’s one of the traits they kept for the 90s live-action movie.
Chief Quimby hiding is like Get Smart’s Agent 13 and Agent 44.
😲Yes! 😂 Thank you! I’d forgotten Agent 13 & 44!!
And being the Chief he's also got the equivalent role of the Chief from Get Smart!
Wow, nostalgia-punch straight to the gut. I had forgotten that this show even existed. I will be humming that theme song all day long at work now :)
Something I learned from another TH-cam video recently, since I never really watched Bond movies, but Dr. Claw being hidden that way and having a cat was of course a parody of Ernst Stavro Blofeld in his initial appearances on film.
This is one of my favorite videos James did! Thanks for reuploading!
Loved this show back in the 80s! They don't make them like that anymore. I had so much fun watching this one!
I loved that show as a child also Get smart was another favorite we had a similar childhood 😀
James is always on duty
This tune has been constantly playing in my head my whole life
I always thought Dr Claw was like Darth Vader where his face was all disfigured and stuff so he intentionally hides his face and his identity from everyone, even his own goons
Fun fact, Dr. Claw is voiced by Frank Welker. If you don't know what his works are, look him up. If you grew up watching cartoons in the 1960s to even 1990s, you will no doubt have encountered him in countless roles.
Actually, I just watched the part 2 section where you had mentioned him. But yeah, his portfolio goes back to to The Jetsons and Scooby (he has voiced Freddy Jones in most of Scooby cartoons, including the parody on Family Guy).
I forgot how anime this show looks. Clearly a Japanese studio worked on it.
Well, TMS did work on the show is a Japanese animation studio
I'm from 90 and remember watching this series for a bit long time!
Penny should have had her own cartoon
Rule 34
8:08 as a Kid I Really wanted that Book 😆
Dig up The 80's "Cops" animated cartoon.
It always came on while I was getting ready for school every morning.
I remember stopping everything and running to the TV to see and hear the intro.
One of my favorite cartoons from childhood.
Thanks for introducing me to Get Smart. It’s instantly become my new favourite show 😂
Yeah i agree exploding messages are the worst especially now im saying as theoretically you don't open it get to home and it explodes somewhere on the line or if it's something tragic or something that takes time to read
Did you forget to mention the music? The intro song and "Penny saves the day" themes never get old.
I wanna say K. Rool's introduction in DK 64 was a reference to Dr. Claw too
Such a blast from the past. I always watched this show and the Beetlejuice cartoon growing up
I bet you had the most fun you could've possibly had while making this video.
Thankyou Nerd for Talking about this Wonderful part of my History, I Really Fricking Loved this Amazing Show with all my Heart
this is the cinemassacre i love
Season 2 was different than Season 1 because it had a few multi-part arcs, as well as the final stretch of episodes (going to dino age, and the final episode to name a couple) was one bigger arc. Also the house in Season 2 was pretty wild lol.
I'm so glad to see this one again
I was lucky to download it from the unlisted archive before the privatization thing happened, so I'm glad it's been reposted 👌
Classic after-school weekday cartoon. I loved growing up in the 80's and 90's.
I watched this too when I was a kid. I remember it always makes me things of my dad. He was a chief inspector for US customs.
These are amazing! Thank you for continuing to be a TH-cam legend!
Watched this religiously when I was a wee young one. Great show.
Yo James I love these kinds of reviews of old cartoons, please do more of them. Even though you're not showing your face, I still enjoy listening to what you have to say about the series.
used to wake up my aunt to watch this show as a kid, sadly when she passed i didnt get the chance to buy the dvd set to put in her casket . such an awesome weird show
The original Penny was the best one. No other Penny has been as good.
I’m glad you talked about this show James because it was one of my ALL TIME favorite shows, I watched it everytime it came on, I really miss it though because I loved that show. So thank you for talking about it James that was awesome.
I remember watching reruns of this in the early 90’s. Was great.
I am surprised about the oversight that James made by not knowing that MAD is actually an acronym: it stands for "Mean And Deceitful".
Anyway, I watched this series quite a lot when I was very little, both with an English and a Finnish dub. Even though I couldn't understand a word from the English version, I still enjoyed watching it. Although, it always annoyed me when Gadget's message mysteriously exploded and it was never explained why.
This cartoon was huge here in Ireland when I was a kid in the late 80s early 90s it was one of the best.
I was such a dumb kid I thought Dr. Claw was literally just an arm...
I watched this every morning in Costa Rica, Canal 4 I loved it, I think that the best episode is the pilot
My childhood had the best toons....😁
This show is so much fun to watch on rerun as a kid in the '90s on Nickelodeon. I honestly should watch it again on streaming sites today. It's also great to watch this review again. I remember watching both videos over a decade ago
I remember the key finger one so vividly.
I love how he says “M.A.D.” Agents around there almost as if he was using it as the slang “ madd “ lmao as in abundance or much
lol I used to watch this one every day too. That Rick Rocker guy sounded like he was voiced by Tommy Wiseau
I Absolutely loved this Show as a Kid
I loved this old cartoon.
He also voiced Tennessee Tuexedo and the principal on pepper ann
This was one of my faves when I was a lad.
Feeling very nostalgic 😀
When I was a kid i always wanted his Car! It was soooo cool!
Definetly used to have a crush on penny..which is weird but then again so is having one on babs bunny or lola rabbit..
I also liked Penny when I was a kid, so not that weird, I'd say.
“Would you believe” this will be the closest to a Get Smart review as we’ll get.
We watched IG a lot back in the day.
Wonder when Dic will do a shared cinematic universe…the Diciverse?
Loved watching Get Smart on Nick at Nite with my granny lol
Dr Claw's car looks like the Catmobile ,from a cartoon i used to watch on saturday mornings, i think it was a british cartoon it was about Catman and Minute Mouse and they were like the Batman and Robin of London i think
Wow the animation looks so much like anime. I wonder why.
If you look at shows like this thundercats, even tiny toons, there were a lot of Japanese animators or studios that collabed on these show back in the day. Its so easy to tell too.
I loved this show as small child I'd wait for it to come on
I want to say "MAD" stands for "Mayhem And Destruction" but may be false memory
Or Disaster, maybe
@@mike41aprilDoesn't it stand for Mean And Dirty?
I'm glad these are on here now :)
I had this bucket hat that was my dads.. I’d put it on whenever the show came on!
I wanna see the bit where Mike and James did the Abbot and Castillo bit.
Having Mike draw again is cool.
Maybe have Justin play the theme again.
Chief Quimby reminds me or Ted Levin as the Captain on Monk.
Most of these old reviews feel like they were written by Mike. They are already "revealing" that he edited them, it only makes sense that he took the Time to watch them as well. James fooled us all back then.
spare me the conspiracy theories troll
Yeah I definitely agree
Explain, elaborate
Listen to the French Opening, you won't regret it!
The cast is great! Don Adams, Frank Welker, Cree Summer (who voiced Penny), Maurice LaMarche (The Brain, not THAT brain, but the one who wants to take over the world) as Inspector Quimby...
the intro music is such a banger
dang this brings me back to way way back when vhs was on top and dvd was rare
Would love to see modern thoughts on these old shows you watched.
I wanna know what you think in 2023 about old tmnt, thundercats, biker mice from mars, transformers and more. Just to see if your thoughts change on these old shows also maybe talk about the later versions of the same series to.
Penny can fix a time machine in a cave with nothing but a box of sticks!
If we think about it, Batman's gadgets are as silly as Inspector Gadget's.
I love the Pianostan episode where the people and prince can’t be happy at the same time.
This is my childhood too. We had to play outside until it came on.
20:14:
It’s just a regular…old…plumbus
Dr. Claw = Chief Quimby
Crazy theory from my childhood. Their voices are similar, and Quimby was sick of being blown up.
I'm always on doodie too. I'm a fecalfeliac.
As far as Dr.Claw. I always assumed Claw looked like the face of MAD.
I always assumed that Claw was the chief cuz the chief always seem to know what he's up too
Dang, hot off the presses! Nice! Can't remember when I've been THIS early to a video! lol
What a show. Pure nostalgia. Excellent analysis by James as always.
I've always felt bad for Mad Cat. Every time Dr. Claw's plans are foiled, he has to bear the brunt of his wrath. Poor kitty. 😿
