    So helpful, I'm about the change the 'transmission' on my crawling lawn sprinkler, and the traction wheels are attached with push nut axle caps. Thanks for posting.

    I smack the flange behind the indention tabs and it raises them off the axle ever so slightly then I can plier them off with ease. Many profane outbursts occurred before method achieved success.

      Off of them. There's a good still shot in the video that shows this. That's a good question that I never thought about. Thank you for asking it

    Unfortunately the push nut is recessed below the wheel hub. The only way to get a vise grip is straight in (no good for torqueing) and the flange OD of the push nut is so close to the recess diameter that the best one can do is go in at a 45 degree angle which prevents prying on the edge of the push nut (it just pops off). I could drill a hole in the plastic wheel hub to expose an edge but I am still going in at a 45 degree angle. My other lever point is the plastic edge of the wheel hub recess which would deform badly. I have heard of a device that has teeth on the inside that can be pushed down on the push nut cap end. It cuts into the metal and has reverse threads like an easy out for screws but engages the OD. I understand mechanics use them on rounded off lug nuts and will remove wheel locks (used by mechanics where customer doesn't have or forgot their wheel lock key). I have tried drilling off the two locking tabs but the recess prevents the necessary access angle. I even tried a Dremel tool to create a slot but the push nut is tight up against the end of the axle. Can't get a good bite without engaging the push nut AND axle, resulting in defeat. Any help would be appreciated. .Acetylene torch???/!!!!!!!

      Simply grip "straight on", and use another visegrip on the clamped visegrip if you can't torque it by hand. Use a ""church key" paint-lid opener instead of a straight shaft screwdriver if you cant make a purchase with the flathead.

    What is the procedure for removing cap nuts that have inner tabs similar to a Star Washer, ie : multiple tabs ?

    • @PhilCrockett

      i'm sure there's more than one method. Just use the most gentle method so you don't damage it and can use it again if need be.

    Hi I have a radio flyer wagon with a push/ cap nut. The axle measures .44 in but I can't find a cap nut anywhere that fits this exactly. Would a 7/16 (0.4375 in) nut work? I found a 4 pack of these.
    Thank you

    • @DannerPlace
      @DannerPlace 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, did the 7/16 caps work, or not?
