  • Went to climb Mount Kinabalu on 23-24 March and i really enjoyed it! Found out that i am stronger than i think i am :) Considering i did not train much for this haha. Disclaimer: It is not for everyone, blood sweat and tears were not filmed in the vlog so it may seem more "fun" than it actually is. Only 4/9 of us would do it again, but personally i would recommend it :)
    Had a lot of nice conversations with experienced & novice hikers. One that particularly spoke to me was with a group of uncles - one of them told me with a sad smile that he wished he could turn back time and do this hike as he would have enjoyed it more.. now its taking a toll on his body. His friends all nodded in agreement. I replied "Uncle, it is never too late, better late than never, at least you are doing it now!" They reminded me of how time will wait for no man and we should live life with no regrets, do everything we wanna before age catches up with us.

    Thanks for the video! Shows a good glance of the hike! How was the internet connection there? Oh also, I saw that y'all got 2 hiking sticks, did y'all rent or brought?

    • @weilingest
      @weilingest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, np! To be honest i didn’t notice how the internet connection was on the way up as I was too tired to use my socials… but the internet was not that great in the hut that we stayed in for the night.
      For sticks we brought ours over from SG… one of my friends bought check in luggage so we dumped all our sticks in his luggage (you can try and stuff it in your carry-on bag but security may not let you in if they see it exposed - the end of the stick makes it a sharp object)
      Alternatively you can rent from the agency as well! But they were not too expensive so I just bought my own ones from decathlon so that I can use them in the future too :)

    Thanks for sharing. May I know if you take the same way down? I have knee issue so going up is fine but concern about the way down. Seeing those rocks seems challenging.

      @weilingest  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Yep it’s the same way down and up. I would recommend u to wear knee guards then, most of our knees hurt a lot as well otw down… I met several professional climbers while climbing who also wore knee guards. All the best :)

      Hi! Unfortunately I don’t have a packing video nor list… but I did refer to this online list www.mountkinabalu.com/tips/things-to-bring
      I would recommend my shoes - I invested in a pair of Salomon Outrise Mid GTX for around $200 SGD, got them from LivActiv @ Changi City Point

    That’s incredible! Loved the video. 😊Bf invited me to hike this in Sept but am quite nervous have never summitted 2000m. Is this do-able for beginners? And would you recommend the acetazolamide tablets, did it prevent altitude sickness?

    • @weilingest
      @weilingest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much!! It is definitely not easy/ for the weak hearted, but I would say it is do-able for beginners (i'm a beginner myself). Please try to train before doing it though (climbing long flights of stairs will help) so that you can enjoy it more :) Yes, I would recommend the acetazolamide tablets (i took these) as i have heard of several people who got altitude sickness midway and were not able to summit/enjoy the hike because of it, so prevention is better! Note that you have to take it few days prior to the summit. All the best, you got this~

    Brave to shower in that cold water LOL! would you say a lot of training is required for the hike? Planning on going sometime this year :)

    • @weilingest
      @weilingest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you :) TMI but I only showered the lower half of my body coz I had my period the day of my climb 💀 kudos to people who showered their hair as well, I would totally die hahaha. I personally didn’t train that much due to lack of time but I have been exercising at least once a week before that (exercise classes), not sure if that helped. I don’t think ALOT of training is necessary if you have a certain level of fitness prior. But yes if you have the time you should definitely train before doing it, climbing stairs would help a lot and is a good gauge of your stamina! If you are from SG I would recommend the Pinnacle @ Duxton haha. All the best, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did 💪🏻

    Hi I'm from sg too going to climb this July. Wanna ask about your gears did you bought specific climbing shoes or just sports shoes?

    • @weilingest
      @weilingest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi fellow Singaporean!! i bought a pair of climbing shoes as i did not want to take the risk of slipping/having a difficult time climbing just coz i did not wear proper shoes. I invested in a pair of Salomon Outrise Mid GTX for about $200SGD, got them from LivActiv @ Changi City Point (there was 18% discount). I saw people wearing sports shoes for the climb too so ultimately i would say its your choice but climbing shoes definitely have more grip (saying this from experience as well) and would make your climb more comfortable (esp for the night hike). So no regrets for me definitely bang for the buck! You can check out Decathlon if you are looking for cheaper alternatives~ All the best for you climb in July :)

    Me and my partner are planning on doing this when we head to Borneo! I’m really nervous that I won’t be able to make it. Did you see any climbers not manage to do the trip? X

    • @weilingest
      @weilingest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I’ve not seen anyone not make it but I have heard that several people were not able to make it to the peak (night climb) and they had to turn back, because there’s actually a time you have to get to the top by as well. I did also saw a lady who paid for the porter to piggyback her down the mountain. If you’re scared I would suggest for you guys to train for a bit before doing it, climbing stairs would really help! I would also recommend getting a good pair of hiking boots. All the best, you got this :)💪🏻

    • @weilingest
      @weilingest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Nope we sign up through an agency called Amazing Borneo. I don’t think you can sign up through the hotel as you actually have to sign up way in advance (it’s quite popular). I paid about $580sgd in total for the 2d1n climb (includes 1 night of lodging), but I heard that the prices increased this year so it might be more expensive now!
