      well as you can see in the video, I wasn't exactly well prepared hahaha. I was pretty tired by the hike. Ideally, I want to be fit enough to do the hike feeling slightlytired but not exhausted. A good way to train up is hiking more and conditioning yourself with a bagpack that is heavy. All go for runs. Anything that is endurance based. Lower body gym sessions would help too :)

      For my other items I got a porter to help me carry them as my camera bag was very heavy. But most people opt to carry it themselves. If I had no or only 1 camera on me I would carry it myself. Hope this helps!

    Thank you very much for such a detailed video, Bernard! I'm planning to visit Malaysia this month and hiking Mount Kinabalu is on the itinerary. My bf and I are planning to do the Via Ferrata and I was expecting just the "Walk the Torq" route, but he's booking the "Low's Circuit", and I have to admit it looks super scary from your footage! Were you scared? Also as you had to summit by 6am and be at the Low's Circuit meeting point at 7am, did you feel like you had sufficient time at the top to enjoy the sunrise and views?

    • @BernardLau1991
      @BernardLau1991  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey no problem. Thanks for watching :)
      I would say go for low circuit for the full experience. It would be worth it. And… as for whether I’m scared. I’m someone who used to have a fear of heights. Up till now, I can’t take roller coasters. But during this, I genuinely felt very safe and maybe it was the adrenaline but I didn’t feel a tinge of fear.
      As for enjoying the sunrise, yeah I didn’t get the time. I was very slow to reach the top and I think I had less than 5 mins there sadly. Like the ideal itinerary would be to do 3d2n and separate the summit push and via Ferrata. But it was worth missing out imo. Hope this helps!

    • @gypsyqzy
      @gypsyqzy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! If you don’t work out regularly or have via ferrata experience I’d recommend you just do walk the torq. Im a girl in my mid twenties, have average fitness and a lot of experience with hiking but I found the low’s circuit too much of a stretch for me physically to enjoy the whole process. To enjoy the low’s circuit, I’d say you need to train your arm strength especially prior to your trip. Tbh I’ve never felt so physically drained in my life and it was definitely beyond my physical limits. We only had 10-15min on the summit and had to hurry back down. There wasn’t sufficient time to take nice photos or to soak in our triumph.
      Scary or not - that’s quite personal and subjective! Adrenaline is what will keep you going.

    • @gypsyqzy
      @gypsyqzy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, to put things in perspective, there were only 8 hikers out of the 170 permitted on the hike daily who were crazy enough to do the low’s circuit! Out of all of them my husband and I were the slowest - we took 5 hours and I think I was the “weakest”, while my husband was trying to overcome his fear of heights 😂 take into consideration this is time spent draining energy (easily 5 times more difficult than the summit climb) instead of time spent recharging for the descent.

    • @gypsyqzy
      @gypsyqzy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So to sum it up, will you be able to do it? Yes I think you can with some endurance and preparation.
      Will you enjoy it? That’ll depend on your fitness level and how you wish to enjoy your trip - is it to push and climb more or is it to take your time to soak in your surroundings?

      Are you talking about the via feratta or the hiking route? Either way, I felt very safe the entire time. I think it is quite doable for kids who are used to hiking. Maybe the summit push int he night is a bit more riskier
