I'm heading out soon for my second trip. Two things I do differently that I like. First, I have a short strap on the bow and I use it to balance the canoe, if needed. Second, I do lash my fishing poles UNDER the cross braces with dealy-bobs (choose how), that way when I put the canoe on my shoulders they are now ON TOP of the braces. Otherwise I have learned from people such as yourself and have ended up doing pretty much what you are doing. I appreciate your advice as well as the others I learn from.

Hello from another local Minnesota TH-cam Channel. Keep up the great work on your videos! I hope to make it up to the north shore to check out some of the waterfalls soon.

@@eschneider8799 I believe it’s around 16 feet. About the length of an average canoe.

In the Adirondacks, they just call it a “carry” and avoid the pronunciation challenge:)

You're pronouncing portage wrong. It should rhyme with garage. 😀

I don’t mean to sound harsh in any way. This is a a lighthearted comment. I appreciate you letting everyone know the correct French-ish pronunciation.

It seems that most Canadians pronounce it portage (rhyming with garage), while Americans pronounce it as she does. Either is correct…just like my wife says tomotoe and I say tomato….ironically, she agrees with my pronunciation of potato. Nice video Jodi. :-)
