Hey newgunguy, nice to hear from you. I prefer the single pickup. I had a musicman Sabre years ago and I used the neck pickup quite a bit on that. I don't slap much but the neck pickup on the Stingray gets in the way. Plus, I just prefer the sound of the single pickup.
I have had three USA Stingray 5 over the years and I bought the Ray 5.For $399. It feels great and on the USA hammer on the G and it goes off the fretboard. I also have an old NE-1 eq I never needed, but it makes this bass sound like it cost a couple grand! Great review.
Nice job Bob! I have this exact same bass. Bought it for $200 used (was beat up a bit). It cuts through a mix pretty well for a budget bass. Strong mids. I find the neck a tad scrawny for my big mitts, but it does play nicely. Bob can you review the Yamaha Trbx174? I'd like to hear your opinion. Thanks!
Hi! I am very grateful to you for telling me about the weight right away! This is important. I have the same RAY4. What do you think - should I consider some jazz bass as an alternative? I would like the same light neck and not too heavy.
I already have a passive bass I'm pretty sure I will buy a Sub Ray 4 for my first active bass I think they are a great value for the price. Edit : As far as the color goes I perfer black at the worst sunburst but not green but the review is great
One more tid-bit: These basses are popular at live events because if stolen it's not ( Emotionally & Financially ) devastating . In the studio, U bring your best & favorite axe !
I have the short scale version which is a LOT more expensive for some reason (like around double the price), and is passive. But I do love my Sterling. Maybe check it out how it sounds! th-cam.com/video/upDrM_AWklc/w-d-xo.html
I can’t stand the sound of the Musicman ceramic pickups. To aggressive. I swap mine out for Alnicos which have a more natural and versatile sound. If your into guitars it’s like comparing a Dimarzio Super Distortion pickup to a vintage PAF
Bob, I agree with you, I like color and I enjoy hearing the economically priced basses! Your bass, SUPERB!
Thanks!
Great review - couldn't agree with you more - these are FANTASTIC basses & The HH versions are superb!!!
Couldn't agree more!
Luv Ur honesty because Ur not pretentious instrument reviewer. Thx.
I appreciate that!
Very good sound, nice color
Hey Steven, great sound and great price!
Do you ever miss the neck pickup on Stingrays?

Great color
Fantastic sounding bass for the price
It really is!
Nice video as usual.
Thanks!

I heard that about the g string on the USA 5
Hey Bob, great video and for 350 I think it’s a no brainer to pick up
Thanks Dan, I think you're right!
- Bob you got to do a video explaining the 4x10 cab I’ve seen in a few of your videos. Looks to be a Hartke
Yes it is! It's the latest HL 410 . It only weighs about 40 pounds. I had the HD 410 which was good but rough on my back.

Hey Bob, thanks. I will if I can get my hands on one. Thinking about a Yamaha BBP34.

Jazz basses are great instruments but can be heavy. Some manufacturers like Sandberg make light ones but they are on the expensive side.
@@BobBlackBass Got it! Then I'll stay with RAY4. Thanks for the answer!
Hi is this the sterling SUB stingray 4?
Yes, they just don't call it a sub anymore.
Hi Bob, is the neck on the above Ray 4 noticeably different from the Ray 24?
Yes. The Ray 24 is thinner. Similar to a jazz bass

Thanks Marc, you can't go wrong with these basses!
Get it Bob, you’ll regret it if you don’t. Cheers!
Thanks, Sean!

Hey Rachel, good point!
The Sterling HH is awesome for $430.00 2 pickups, bass and treble boosts and cuts 5-way switch, sounds awesome. Sterlings are nice.
Awesome

Hey baby blue sound, yes, I checked out your video. Very cool. I subbed you also. I did a review on the short scale some time ago. I liked it a lot.
@@BobBlackBass thanks, how very nice of you! will check your short scale vid!

Hey new1, I agree!
