My favorite is watching youtubers say, I built for $10 with scrap. Then they show you all the NEW material that was just sitting around hahahahahhah. You actually used scrap and made a working forge! My only moment of concern was the spray paint on the open flame furnace lol. But all and all this was fun to watch. Good Job Sir!

Just so everyone knows, that's an air to air boot ment to connect turbo boost tubes to intercoolers on diesel trucks. They are use to 30 to 50 psi at a couple hundred degrees. They can easily take the heat and pressure of a hair dryer.

I have been bolting rotors together for pedestal grinders/polishers for years now. I can get them for free from my local tire store. Love this little forge bud. I am going to stop and get a rotor or two from the logging truck shop I used to be the head fabricator for and make a pedestal with one and a forge with the other. Love that clinker breaker. I think everybody starts with a hairdryer for their first low-buck forge. I still have one that looks like it was in a housefire from my first, and it still blows air mostly out the front! Since moving up to a 'high bypass' leaf blower (😎) that can scream more air in for crucible days, my only problem is finding good diameter stainless steel that won't melt! Oddly enough, charcoal chimney-style starters are a lot more durable than you'd think for that purpose, or I lucked out and the factory that day was running Inconel, ha!
Yes, your coupler is silicone and will handle ~800F, though as you said, as long as air is passing through and around it, you'd have to worry about the welds melting down first long before your heat ever gets way down there!
    Junkyard Forge works every time.

Good project, I made my forge out of an old camping gas bottle, I cut it in half length way's and inverted one half into the other and seam welded them together, but not before cutting a hole for the hair dryer, then drilled holes along the length of the furnace bottom for air flow from the dryer, works brilliantly. All the best to you. Paul.

I like your idea I'm gona use the hub from a big truck so il have more volume for coal and maybe build a enclosure with fire brick and instead of a hair dryer maybe a heat gun. compressed air is hot but you need to run the compressor non stop you will want to keep it as hot as you can. I don't know it might not be a problem.

I used the outer 16" rim ring from a cube van dually truck. The portion the tire would mount to unbolts and is then the perfect size for the coals. I remember the first times I started to weld. My teacher said "when your getting a good weld it should sound just like your frying up some good greasy bacon". That is a good reference when learning to weld imo. You'll squeeze a few more cfm using hairdriers if you disable the heating coil, since the colder the air becomes the more dense it becomes, its obvious that equals a hotter forge. That's merely nit picking ISPO. But if you can use a touch more of cfm it helps to get it there. Thanks for the upload blacksmith I always find some tips that are useful.

@@Robinson-Homestead No problem. I love Learning new things and have Always been fascinated with Forging/Blacksmithing. Showed your video to a friend who offered to build one for me. But my neighbors would shoot me (I live in a Subdivision) so the hammering...ya.. you get it I am sure! I sooo badly want one though!!!

Very interesting to watch. I have a friend who’s a mechanic and I’ll be asking him if he can get me some of the parts you’ve shown in this video. I’m excited to build my own forge and you’ve given me the motivation to do just that, thank you

A nice and simple Forge, Looks Well done....i Had one of my own, i cladded the inner Part of the drum with Heat resistent mortar to reduce Heat loss, but thats was Just for "Research", its not necessary....the mortar cladding ist getting brittle after some time...anyway - Well done and Well explained & Filmed.

Great idea for an affordable forge. If I may suggest weld a car/truck rim to the top of the forge ( cut the center out of the rim ) then you would have a forge that would hold as much coal as needed. And also your building cost would me minimal.

How about a flapper at the bottom of the 2 inch pipe for dumping the ashes? easy to make one with a counterweight hung off it to hold it closed until you want to open it. just a suggestion . Nice little forge build ;)

Parts, an air source (Blowdrier), a grate to keep coals from entering the air source (not needed if it is fed horizontally), a container for the heat (the drum brake) and a stand if you want it elevated
