You should look up Bassem Youssef and specifically his interviews with Piers Morgan. He's an Egyptian comedian who used to host a show similar to The Daily Show in Egypt, and his wife is Palestinian. You can tell how personal this topic is for him by how dark he's willing to take his jokes in order to make salient points about the absolute atrocities being perpetrated against the Falastinian people.

Sometimes the job of a comedian is to highlight the horrors, show the absurdity of the positions and add some loud question marks. Not an easy task, but one I think a society needs some brave souls to be doing.
100% agree. For me personally, during Trump's term. The resurfacing of racist & rise of white nationalism that came with that was destroying my mental health. I had to avoid mainstream media for the sake of my mental health but I also still didn't want to not be well informed & aware of what's happening around the US/World. I found the only way to do that was by watching well-educated comedians & late night shows. Ironically, I find quite a few late night shows(such as John Stewart/Trevor Noah) made Americans even better well informed by calling out the bullshit of "left-leaning media" in their hypocrisy. With the more recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict, seeing/hearing about the thousands of innocent Palestinians, especially with such a large percent being children is already heart breaking as it is. Then to also see how the mainstream media making anyone criticizing & condemn the Israeli Government & their policies as "Anti-semitic" is absolutely beyond absurd. The hypocrisy in their lack of empathy for Palestinians life is sickening. I've never felt this physically sick to my stomach & saddened by what's happening ever in my life. It's similar to the blackhole one has in a chest after a breakup. I've been feeling guilty because I've started to have to avoid reading/watching news on the conflict because it's literally breaking my heart & mental health on how this is even a debate. A lot of people say that they’re not antisemitic and that they are only anti-zionist , when as you very well said there are 1000 different breeds of Zionism. It’s not easy right now especially and a lot of people would rather avoid those conversations altogether. No matter the stance, what I believe firmly is that “no Palestine at all” and “no Israel at all” are both unrealistic options that only end up promoting more violence and hatred. Recognition of the other’s right to exist should be the basis of all conversations in my opinion.

The original name is Palestine, it is the name given to Israel during the biblical times 2000+ years ago, like the Romans called Romania “Dacia”, etc. The “original” Palestinians are thus the Jews, but many of them where exiled by the empires that controlled the region, and todays Palestinians are called this since they live in the area called so. Some of them have roots in Jews that remained and mixed with other immigrants over the centuries and many are immigrants from the recent centuries. Half of this conflict could have been defused decades ago just by people talking about what they mean instead of defining and redefining one another into exclusive ideological corners.
@@andrewfox368 The deeper problem is that Zionism, Palestinian Nationalism, and Arab Nationalism developed in the late 1800's and early to mid 1900's when nationalism was still religiously and ethnically oriented (i.e. men of their time syndrome). In the aftermath of Fascism (which took ethno-nationalism to its logical extreme) and the Holocaust; their was a broad international paradime shift towards civic nationalism. This was not immediate however (it took the US two decades to formally desegregate and it was very politically trying and is still an ongoing social phenomena that brings out a lot of nasty actors) and to a certain degree is still an ongoing process (the rise of right-wing populism/crypto-fascism evidence that many nations may be backsliding on these important lessons from the 20th century). The core ideological problem with Zionism is that it developed out of and in response to the ethno-nationalism of late 1800's Europe (Sam Arorow has a great youtube video on the Dreyfus Affair if you want to see what this looked liked in practice). Palestinian Nationalism and Pan-Arab Nationalism where also similarly problematic by modern standards, although at least in the late 1910's and early 1920's, Arab political elites did show some interest in accommodating Zionism into a soft Pan-Semitism as per the Faisal-Weizmann Agreement before the British and French threw everyone under the bus and carved up the carcass of the Ottoman empire for their own purposes; then the British spent the next two decades playing the Zionists and Palestinians off of each other to maintain control over the Mandate of Palestine. At this point, polling shows that Israelis (Jewish and Arab) are, in the aggregate, theoretically more open to civic-nationalism than Palestinians, even jewish israelis who identify as Zionists (although the Israeli far-right is deeply committed to an ethno-nationalist interpretation); but the Israelis are deeply paranoid. In this regard, both populations are stunted and psychologically trapped in the 1940's; Jewish Israelis keep having Holocaust nightmares and Palestinians keep having Nabka nightmares. You should look up Bassem Youssef and specifically his interviews with Piers Morgan. He's an Egyptian comedian who used to host a show similar to The Daily Show in Egypt, and his wife is Palestinian. You can tell how personal this topic is for him by how dark he's willing to take his jokes in order to make salient points about the absolute atrocities being perpetrated against the Falastinian people.

100% agree. For me personally, during Trump's term. The resurfacing of racist & rise of white nationalism that came with that was destroying my mental health. I had to avoid mainstream media for the sake of my mental health but I also still didn't want to not be well informed & aware of what's happening around the US/World. I found the only way to do that was by watching well-educated comedians & late night shows. Ironically, I find quite a few late night shows(such as John Stewart/Trevor Noah) made Americans even better well informed by calling out the bullshit of "left-leaning media" in their hypocrisy.
With the more recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict, seeing/hearing about the thousands of innocent Palestinians, especially with such a large percent being children is already heart breaking as it is. Then to also see how the mainstream media making anyone criticizing & condemn the Israeli Government & their policies as "Anti-semitic" is absolutely beyond absurd. The hypocrisy in their lack of empathy for Palestinians life is sickening. I've never felt this physically sick to my stomach & saddened by what's happening ever in my life. It's similar to the blackhole one has in a chest after a breakup. I've been feeling guilty because I've started to have to avoid reading/watching news on the conflict because it's literally breaking my heart & mental health on how this is even a debate. This was nice to see after a couple weeks, he blended the comedy with the reality perfectly to remind me there are still many American's whom are becoming & have been well-informed about reality. As a Jew, thank you for saying what you said about Zionism. This cannot be stressed enough. A lot of people say that they’re not antisemitic and that they are only anti-zionist , when as you very well said there are 1000 different breeds of Zionism. Some Zionisms ARE literally Judaism (i.e. the recreation of a Jewish state in mount Zion so that the 3rd temple can be reconstructed). To Jews, it feels like they are only using the word anti-zionism as a free pass for antisemitism. Most Jews are totally fine with people saying they are anti Netanyahu, Ben Gvir and those other nut jobs. It’s not easy right now especially and a lot of people would rather avoid those conversations altogether. No matter the stance, what I believe firmly is that “no Palestine at all” and “no Israel at all” are both unrealistic options that only end up promoting more violence and hatred. Recognition of the other’s right to exist should be the basis of all conversations in my opinion.

The original name is Palestine, it is the name given to Israel during the biblical times 2000+ years ago, like the Romans called Romania “Dacia”, etc.
The “original” Palestinians are thus the Jews, but many of them where exiled by the empires that controlled the region, and todays Palestinians are called this since they live in the area called so.
Some of them have roots in Jews that remained and mixed with other immigrants over the centuries and many are immigrants from the recent centuries.

Every ideology is internally diverse and prone to change over time and synchronization with other ideologies. Also, Christian zionism is definitely scary, the way those ghouls get aroused whenever things heat up shows a sicking disregard for the lives of Israelis and Palestinian.
@@allynashton6077 It’s very frustrating when “I think that an existing country probably shouldn’t be annihilated on principle” is equated to “I think the whole surrounding region should be ethnically cleansed and absorbed into a new greater Judea” on one end, “kill all the Palestinians” on the other end, and “we need all the Jews there to usher in the end times” over in Louisiana. Half of this conflict could have been defused decades ago just by people talking about what they mean instead of defining and redefining one another into exclusive ideological corners.
@@andrewfox368 The deeper problem is that Zionism, Palestinian Nationalism, and Arab Nationalism developed in the late 1800's and early to mid 1900's when nationalism was still religiously and ethnically oriented (i.e. men of their time syndrome). In the aftermath of Fascism (which took ethno-nationalism to its logical extreme) and the Holocaust; their was a broad international paradime shift towards civic nationalism. This was not immediate however (it took the US two decades to formally desegregate and it was very politically trying and is still an ongoing social phenomena that brings out a lot of nasty actors) and to a certain degree is still an ongoing process (the rise of right-wing populism/crypto-fascism evidence that many nations may be backsliding on these important lessons from the 20th century). The core ideological problem with Zionism is that it developed out of and in response to the ethno-nationalism of late 1800's Europe (Sam Arorow has a great youtube video on the Dreyfus Affair if you want to see what this looked liked in practice). Palestinian Nationalism and Pan-Arab Nationalism where also similarly problematic by modern standards, although at least in the late 1910's and early 1920's, Arab political elites did show some interest in accommodating Zionism into a soft Pan-Semitism as per the Faisal-Weizmann Agreement before the British and French threw everyone under the bus and carved up the carcass of the Ottoman empire for their own purposes; then the British spent the next two decades playing the Zionists and Palestinians off of each other to maintain control over the Mandate of Palestine. At this point, polling shows that Israelis (Jewish and Arab) are, in the aggregate, theoretically more open to civic-nationalism than Palestinians, even jewish israelis who identify as Zionists (although the Israeli far-right is deeply committed to an ethno-nationalist interpretation); but the Israelis are deeply paranoid. In this regard, both populations are stunted and psychologically trapped in the 1940's; Jewish Israelis keep having Holocaust nightmares and Palestinians keep having Nabka nightmares. Hannah Arendt's worries about Israel becoming a "Ghost among nations" sums up this dynamic quite well; an island of early 20th century ethno-nationalism in a world of civic-nationalism; Although with the rise of neoethno-nationalism (Trump, Putin, Orban, Erdowan, Johnson, Wilders, etc.), ethno-nationalist and authoritarian Zionism isn't as isolated as it should be.
