The lightning was bizarre that night. I live in Whalley smack bang in the middle of farmland so the only light was from lightning and it was in all directions with multiple flashes like someone flicking switches on and off in different areas without a rumble of thunder. Then we had one massive flash and whip-crack and it lashed down for three hours straight. You know it's bad when birds fly overhead at 2am and the dogs won't even go out for a pee until the next morning.
I cant imagine what the radar looked like throughout this beast of a storm! It's a beautiful feature and this storm is most definitely mother nature at her best of course. The music with the lightning strikes and thunder makes it so satisfying and relaxing to watch. Your content is amazing, so please keep doing what you're doing!
Lightningmaps.org showed most of north merseyside, west and north Lancashire to be covered in strikes. Averaged 1 every 1.9seconds with max 7 per second. Bloody amazing lightshow -I was out watching it all night and early morning
I'll tell you what a scary thunderstorm is like ,....well , it was for me anyway . It was about 10 pm and there wasn't a breath of wind . It was a warm night ,...there was no rain , and the lightning was right overhead . I was in my car about 20 kms north of Melbourne in Australia ,.....the thunder cracked and you could hear it hissing before hitting the ground . It was so load .... Because the was no wind , it took about an hour and a half to burn out . But hearing lightning hissing is really something .
@@Dipling11 It was, It was an earie feeling . I mean we all have had the peaceful silence ,,. that often that we trust it to be peaceful , It took a long time for me to trust that peace again . Buy the way Happy new year . Hope it's a good one for you. Cheers
I've never seen an UK storm chaser before! Here (in the US) that would be a tornado chaser 90% of the time or hurricanes 10%. We do have a few people that photograph lightning, but I don't think they chase it, I think they just happen to find themselves in a lightning storm. Hard to see you in the dark; hope you taking precautions! One bolt of lightning can change your life forever - nothing to play with.
I’ve commented on this film before but gosh!! It’s absolutely gripping this film. It’s like a big monster coming your way!!! Please keep these amazing films up plus the trains too. Fantastic! Paul
I saw lightning the other day it was really strange as normally lightning is blue or white but the lightning I saw was yellow and it was like one cloud lit up and it was really weird and we could hear no thunder at all
I think if the surrounding airmass is very dry and dusty it can appear yellow like in the deserts. I remember in the crazy lightning storms of 2020 there was bright red postive cg lightning striking from the top of developing cumulonimbus clouds around midnight miles ahead of the cells and hitting striking the groin after sharp right angle turns. Sad we don’t get to see more of this phenomena!
The main phobia of storms for me is lightning not really thunder, but love it on YT, great vid, expect excellence in 2021. Also 5:30, huge crack of thunder
AMAZING! You've captured some GREAT lighting shots! We're down in S E London, nothing as yet. According to local London news, West London had some storms/flash floods.
When I was living in the Nth West of Aus we got awesome lightning during the wet season. Was out in the yard one night doing the ground work while prepping a train with lightning flashing about and iron ore stockpiles near by. Got a call from the yard controller asking how close it was. Told him "To damm close for my liking".
WOW! Nice One! I just love a good storm but we don't seem to get many here in Barnsley South Yorkshire but last week changed all that. My friend who lives near Wolverhampton msgd to tell me of the awesome storm going on there and here we weren't expecting anything. .But..around 11pm I noticed some flashes of lightning so I sat out on my doorstep to watch....The clouds were moving really slowly any rondo I could hear lots of very distant thunder which was non stop. Gradually the frequency and brightness of the lightning increased until an hour later the flashes were coming very few seconds from all over the sky..It was all intra-cloud lightning and the thunder sounded really high up . The whole experience was absolutely spectacular and I couldn't tear my eyes away from the sky, just didn't know where to look! After a couple of hours it slowed to a stop so at 2am went to bed but left the windows open as it was so hot and I couldn't get to sleep. About 3am the thunder started again but louder this time and with it came the lightning which was even more intense and spectacular than the first one. Again it was all intra-cloud lightning and I could see the huge sparks lighting up the clouds with a pinkish hue. The thunder was high up and sounded so ominous..I wanted to do a 'Superman' and fly up into it and experience it up close..We did have rain too here but nothing heavy or torrential but it was one of the most incredible spectacular storms I've ever seen! I once witnessed ball lightning in 1982 as a teenager when my family were living near Pentraeth, Isle of Anglesey (spawned from a huge cloud to ground lightning) The electricity was knocked out for hours but nobody else reported seeing the ball..It was as big as a house, was bluish in colour and it moved and flickered for a few seconds before disappearing with the loudest sonic boom of thunder I've ever heard!!!. .It was quite near and the house shook as if in an earthquake ..I'll never ever forget that one either. .Am always hoping for more good storms coming my way here in the UK. Keep up the great work! 😀😀😀
I was in the West Midlands and saw the storm on the 11th... it was amazing.... very unusual for the UK. There were hours of watching the lightning in the clouds with quiet thunder, but not getting rained on at all. At the beginning I could see the lightning and flashes occurring in different parts of a cloud, then 3 forks burst out the top of the cloud pointing upwards (never seen that before.) It was beautiful. When it got dark the main storm got bigger and there were another two separate lightning storms going on behind us as well. It was a spectacular show. Where I was we also had a building lit up red with spotlights beaming up at the sky. The combination was very dramatic. makes you feel alive doesn't it?
The light show hit fife, scotland around 8:30pm and us in Livingston around 11:30pm and the storm itself didnt kick off for another 3 hours after that... spectactular dry storm until 2am when 1 months worth of rain tipped itself over us in 12hrs. Never seen anything like this. Great capture.
I'm really happy for you mate, the lightning is nearly as frequent as the constant stream of lightning video I sent u from down south a few months ago. We didn't get this in my area but I'm happy for you.
I like watching storm video from other countries outside the USA. It is more like what I have deal with here in Australia. I think doing the hard yards in places like UK improves your eyes to the sky knowledge. USA chasers appear to have lost the plot, apart from perhaps a handful its now all about the tornado and little else. Our last season here was a complete fail, unless you like Bushfires (I even have a video of massive pyrocumulus). I have several years of storm chases from Australia, mostly lightning, and some from a USA trip.
Hi Nodrog, I Live In Carnforth Lancashire and The Thunderstorms That Hit Us Were Very Scary I Can Remember Watching the TV at 23:30pm and All of a Sudden I Heard a Massive Boom and the Floor Shook I Was Very Frightened By It But I Have a Friend Who Lives In Blackpool and He Said It Was Really Bad Where He Was But I Thought Nodrog Will Be Out Filming This and That Reassured Me and Made Me Less Scared of The Thunder and The Next Day I Saw This Video and I Thought Wow We Had a Cracking Thunderstorm Last Night and Seeing All the Damage Done Blew My Mind and The Amount of Flooding Around My Area Was Insane But 2020 Has Definitely Been a Year of Cracking Thunderstorms and I Hope 2021 Will Be the Same 👍👍🌩️⚡
Great stuff! Caught the storms in Snowdonia, Llandudno and here at home in Widnes yesterday as it moved North over Liverpool. Barely any thunder sound on that night time one, just ridiculous, constant lightning up in the clouds. They were moving so fast as well. Thanks for risking yourself for the video. It's not a storm I'll soon forget. Here's to many more this week!
Saw it to last night. Thing is you got the film Independence Day shots!! Absolutely so excited you got these shots. Was hoping you’d get something! Stunning! Like watching Andy Warhol with a camera by the end! Please keep this channel going, I really can’t afford luxuries but so enjoy the Railway stuff but this is superb. No smoke! Paul
I’ve had to drive up to Scotland and down south most of last week and drove through that storm near Preston what ya filming. Great views going over shap but the motorway was bad with that rain. Made it tho.oh and I came from flint so had the pleasure of not having any sleep before setting of at 2 in morn because of the lightning. It was like trying to sleep at a rave. Impossible. So some mad storms we been having.
We've had some nice storms in NL as well, albeit not too close to where I live. I did try to chase a storm yesterday, but didn't want to actually end up IN the storm. The thing is that when you're in the middle of it, lightning is everywhere, and you end up in the rain. Rain and cameras don't go well together. So now I'm trying to flank storms, and that worked out pretty well. You get all sorts of nice lightning shots wile not getting rained upon! Anyway I really enjoyed your video! Yesterday I was watching the lightning map and noticed that it was really crazy near Blackpool and I think Birmingham. Keep the vids coming!
I'm in Chester and we had it 3 days on the trot, the first 2 days we're mainly lightning storms with next to no rain or thunder, however the 3rd day it was literally right over head, torrential rain, lightning every few seconds and huge rumbles of thunder!! Days 1 & 2 started around 9pm lasting both days until around 3am and the over head started at 7:30pm and lasted until around 2 am
I was watching the storm last night. It was amazing. Lots of vids on my facebook stream as loads of people were out watching it from Lancaster/Morecambe 🌩🌩🌩
I live in Blackpool Bispham it can be crazy when it starts lights your bedroom up but always wondered what it look like on M55 seeing this looking at the tower from the M55
I remember talking to you about this night. It was staggering and you captured it brilliantly!!! I remember now it literally turned night into day. We didn’t have the rain you did here around Stockport it was a pure electrical storm. It was stunning and scary!!!!! Paul 👍
I live in Burnley, and the lightning show over Preston/Fylde Coast way on Monday night was excellent and I managed to get 20 mins of video worth of it from my back yard (even with some houses nearby). The storms seemed to be tracking up the Irish Sea Coast between Liverpool and Lancaster/Morecambe and seemingly a couple of systems that merged and intensified. No thunder to be heard at all as it was too far away and intracloud lightning and no rain, but a strong, cool wind blowing in from the north east, which seemed to feed the storms, mixing with the humid warm air coming from the south. Last night (Weds), had a few strong lightning flashes here in Burnley and loud, almost explosive, rumbles of thunder, but didn't last long (a couple shook the kitchen extension I was watching it from lol). Looking on the apps, the main bunch of that was centred over North Wales coming from the Midlands, and extending up to Manchester, Merseyside and up in to around Wigan and Chorley, but didn't seem to be much going on here in Burnley, yet what we got was different. I find 'Windy' to be a really good app to use, Rain Alarm (only shows where the rain is though and how heavy it is), Accuweather, as well as Metcheck website.
I live in Manchester and could see the lightning from all those storms almost constantly light up the clouds over the west horizon. I watched it slowly crawl its way up the coast from Liverpool , into the west over Southport and Blackpool and then north up towards Lnacaster and the Lake district. Best light show I have ever seen nature provide.
mate this was awesome thanks for sharing it. we had a fantastic light show here in droitwich west midlands just before midnight....absolutely incredible!!!
I am currently in Blackpool until Thursday it was amazing thunder storm last night great video Gordon onces again mate top job keep up the hard work up can't wait for next video Gordon hope you well and safe
fantastic video gordon well done i saw a video posted last night on a blackpool facebook group of the storm and it also showed the started of a funnel cloud and someone else posted a video of the storm and there was a ball of flame in the east.
That feeling when the storm you're chasing starts biting back.... I've had that many a time. Excellent work, and super nice editing turn around time too!
I was watching the storms forming in Devon yesterday on radar, I'm in Hampshire and my sister is in Somerset, we were both gutted they didn't come up towards us. But thanks to you capturing this video I didn't miss out on how intense the storm system actually became. What an epic storm!
Did you see the ball lightning. I can't believe you edited most of it out!!!!!! This footage would be fascinating for atmospheric scientists to study. Keep your eyes open mate.
Apperently on Wednesday we're supposed to have a thunder storm all night down near Brighton so I'm preparing my popcorn and getting a good sleep tonight cause I won't get any tommorow night
I am so glad you managed to capture such a beautiful and mezmerising display of such lightning shots. But i'm gonna be honest, i am kinda jealous too XD From were i was located i saw alot of the flashes from so far away, It blew my mind how active this storm was. I have never seen a storm this active in my life so far, and i glad to have experienced it from were i was. However, i would've loved to experience it from the heart of the storm just like you was capable of doing. I would love to chase storms like this within my life too but as of right now i am very much limited and cannot get around. May you keep up the good work and i will be looking forward to see you chase some more storms just like this one in future. Good luck and take care out there!
You got some fantastic video - the part with the music. I love lightning - scared of it because have had too many close calls, but it's incredibly beautiful and haunting at the same time. Nice job.
In Mid Wales it was none stop lighting and thunder at 8pm for 2 hours, never seen a UK thunderstorm like it, and I love storms always watching them, so I can make the comparison, heavy rained fill all four water butts in 30min. This video does it no Justise what so ever!!...the thunderstorm carried on well after I went to bed 10pm.
Bristol Last night ( Thursday) was the worst thunderstorm I have ever experienced. 1.25 am the biggest explosion I have ever heard woke me up the windows in the whole house rattled and it set off all the car alarms in the street. The air was charged you could taste the electricity it was insane.
@nodrogtoo, we get this 360 degree thunderstorms every year between mid-May until early Sept in South Derbyshire. It is just a hint if you ever travel down to the Midlands for storm-chasing.
Fantastic captures, I was watching the storm system in the distance progress northwards over north Wales and Liverpool last from Crewe. The sky was lighting up like a fireworks display for hours. Now seeing your great captures I understand why. Top notch stuff nodrog 👌👌👌 GET READY FOR ROUND 2 TONIGHT ⛈⛈⛈⛈⛈⛈⛈
This was the same type of thunderweather we had back in 2014 in Norway, lightning each 10 seconds, and it did kept on for 4 hours starting at 22pm and ending around 2.30 am.. Heavy rain even flooded streets in Oslo and ended up with closed roads. So, Nature are just having a clean-up :)
Best video yet, great footage! Was up myself after hearing a massive bang (like a bomb) couldn't help myself but to stop up and watch, more too come this week, keep up the entertaining work 👍⛈️
The lightning and rain was also crazy up in Aberdeenshire, the village I'm in got flooded and there was crazy lightning everywhere, saw a little funnel cloud rotate but it died in a minute, never saw anything like this in a long time
I seen on the news this morning that Blackpool, most of the north west and Wales had severe thunderstorms last night and it’s forecast to do it here in Co Durham but nothing has happened yet.
I love all storms...nothing more awesome than nature’s fury...awesome vid hunny. Thanks for sharing. I’m in the south west and we’re forecast to have thunder storm starting around 10pm this evening.... looking forward to it....
Epic videos mate love it , I’m from derby and we’ve had some massive storms recently they seem to have just passed to the south of us wich was brilliant to watch the clouds lighting up and seeing fork lightning
I got caught in this while backpacking in Shropshire on Wednesday except it was worse. Escalated to an Amber warning out of nowhere, had to throw my tent up sooner than expected. The rain and lightning were something I haven't experienced since I was a child and the downdraft made to really hard to get my tent up. Wouldn't want to repeat the experience to be honest, it was memorable for all the wrong reasons lol
Sorry Gordon.....having just watched the whole video I just had to comment again. And my comment? Just WOW!!!! Amazing footage of an amazing storm. Would love it if those sort of storms came our way. Thank you so much for getting soaking wet to bring us this footage.
Was down the road from you on Lytham estuary but left early evening as first storm passed over the mersey.. got back to my caravan and all hell broke lose right overhead. Campsite was flooded this morning and all roads leading out were closed. not that you could make it in a car anyway. Great video btw glad i was sent a link to your channel let's hope for the same tonight but without as much rain 😅
Can you imagine how strong these storms would have been had they'd been born on a cold front?! We had a low pressure system setting them off, but no huge contrast of temperature variation after. The CAPE would have gone through the roof!!
Thank you for sharing this Storm. I was very jealous I live in Somerset and I was tracking when the storms brewed across the border in Devon yesterday morning went up to Wales and carried on going North to the Irish sea. Fingers crossed you get more storms this summer.
I remember this storm last year it was huge. Where i live in south wales they kept coming and coming right off the bristol channel all night, ive never seen lightning as frequent as thoes storms. Some great content here on this channel i really cant wait untill the next batch of storms
Great video, Mother Nature putting on one of her best sound to light shows ever! Yesterday afternoon, here in Cambridge I experienced one of the wierdest storms I've ever heard. I say heard because I didn't see any lightning but for at least an hour, there was continuous thunder with no breaks, just rolling around Cambridge non-stop. Amazing!
I'm in Burton-upon-trent, it came my way too last night, I thought Police was outside my flat! I took some video, but my camera isn't so good... But yeah man, it was sustained for ages! Probably at least an hour! Didn't get any rain though and didn't hear any thunder.
Incredible shots, thank you for sharing your experience, missed any amazing storms here in the Brecon Beacons, powys, hoping we have one by Thursday xxx stay safe xxx
Just searched up Storms UK and you popped up, bit of a coincidence as I watch the main channel, never knew about this one. Haven't had storms like this in Sussex in ages, even though it's warmest here, we get hardly any storms, last one was may time and that was just a small storm
My second time watching this. We had a thunderstorm up here in Methil in Fife which started about 9.15 in Tuesday night and (sort of) stopped at 1.30 on Wednesday morning. We also had a few rumbles of thunder that day but not as bad as the night before. BTW, I forgot to say how good your camera work was.
great video mate keep up the storm chase really amazing beautiful spectacular scenery with constant lighting and love thunder the best weather ever the king of the skies I'm from faversham kent and we didn't get saw lighting every night last week but had nothing it never happens missed us all the time in the south east some parts of Kent had thunder but here in faversham kent nothing gutted

It happened to me just bow
Same happening right now as well

Amazing lightning captures! There are meant to be thunderstorms all across England in between today and Friday!
MSM always hyping the news up. You won't be seeing thunderstorms today coming from the East Mids. It's so quiet & calm & cool outside.
@Khaak Rak it's happening in Manchester now
I'm in London, feeling like I'm melting it's only 11am, bring on the thunderstorm
bliss full yeh there’s meant to be one coming in very soon in the south of England

Oh yes it does! I love it.
Great video. I live in Carlisle and we get sod all
I took pictures of those huge thunder cells developing. It was heading Northward towards Grimsby. Use "NOAA" to track storms.
Thanks for the tip mate!
Absolutely fantastic show last night never seen anything like it over Lancaster was out from 10 pm till 4 am as you do capturing it
Mother Riley same but o was so scared I woke up to a very loud bang and ran into my mum and dads room 😂 x

You always feel like the tallest thing on the open beach when cought out there in a storm, great vid.
mate this was awesome thanks for sharing it. we had a fantastic light show here in droitwich west midlands just before midnight....absolutely incredible!!!
Great video! I’ve never seen anything like it in the UK. Non stop light show for us (Bury) towards the west last night!
That feeling when the storm you're chasing starts biting back.... I've had that many a time. Excellent work, and super nice editing turn around time too!
The lightning was still going on here in St Helens at 4.15am this morning according to my mum.
It was, from about 8.45pm to 4.20am. Almost nonstop lightning⚡⚡⚡🌩️🌩️, not much rain though.
Amazing light show! Reminds me of the storms that blow through Texas in the States - hope no one lost power over there - stay safe!
This exact lighting storm happened at Wolverhampton tonight and it was the same but with massive lighting bolts

Apperently on Wednesday we're supposed to have a thunder storm all night down near Brighton so I'm preparing my popcorn and getting a good sleep tonight cause I won't get any tommorow night
i use lightningmaps.org to keep track im in Portsmouth looking forward to the next few days
It's Wednesday today and i haven't had a good sleep, but It doesn't seem to be too bad in Wales we're I am 🤔
omg today is Wednesday and where I live omg it was really crazy , lightning hit trees , ground and maybe some other stuff and it was so extremely loud
It's on its way right now. Buckle up.
@@Ominousheat flip. if you want you can check out my lightning video in the uk that I've just uploaded . 😊
I am so glad you managed to capture such a beautiful and mezmerising display of such lightning shots. But i'm gonna be honest, i am kinda jealous too XD
From were i was located i saw alot of the flashes from so far away, It blew my mind how active this storm was.
Great to see UK chaser, awesome captures!!
Dude I saw that storm on the radar! I was in Weymouth while you were there. THUNDERSTORMS IN LONDON!
Bristol Last night ( Thursday) was the worst thunderstorm I have ever experienced. 1.25 am the biggest explosion I have ever heard woke me up the windows in the whole house rattled and it set off all the car alarms in the street. The air was charged you could taste the electricity it was insane.

It felt as if the blitz was going on
We’re in Greece at the moment and there is some bangers going on
The whole of Europe is getting slammed.
i love bangers...
@nodrogtoo, we get this 360 degree thunderstorms every year between mid-May until early Sept in South Derbyshire. It is just a hint if you ever travel down to the Midlands for storm-chasing.
Brill vid mate, that lightning was super scary when your on the dunes I don't blame you making a quick escape 😂
I remember that night/early morning. Was still going strong at 4am. Never seen lightning like it.
Awesome man, I love your presenting as well.
I Agree He's a Legend
Fantastic captures, I was watching the storm system in the distance progress northwards over north Wales and Liverpool last from Crewe.
The sky was lighting up like a fireworks display for hours.
Now seeing your great captures I understand why.
Top notch stuff nodrog 👌👌👌
GET READY FOR ROUND 2 TONIGHT ⛈⛈⛈⛈⛈⛈⛈
Love the weather! Love the content! Can't beat it
Glad you shared this - Durham has had nothing during this 'thundery spell' - glad to see how others experienced it.
Wow this defiantly deserves number 1 views on this channel
Best video yet, great footage! Was up myself after hearing a massive bang (like a bomb) couldn't help myself but to stop up and watch, more too come this week, keep up the entertaining work 👍⛈️
I’m in north wales and i got a load! The most rain i have ever seen. Managed to flood a street in about 5 or 10 mins.
Wrexham/llangollen area last night was like a nuclear blast! stunning lightning ,rain and hailstone a bit much though!!
It has now 😁
I love all storms...nothing more awesome than nature’s fury...awesome vid hunny. Thanks for sharing. I’m in the south west and we’re forecast to have thunder storm starting around 10pm this evening.... looking forward to it....
this as surely got to be the best one seen on you tube so far
Ya im in blackpool also and it was mental
In Scotland we had lightening for about 3 hours before any thunder, but it was crazy never heard thunder or saw lightning like it before.
Epic storm! Definitely worth waiting up for!
So soothing to watch a storm. I find it very calming.
Absolutely, terrifyingly, beautiful. I live in Norwich and we witnessed nothing like this. What an amazing week of storms 👌😄
I'm a ceraunophile too, heard some thunder last night but too cloudy here in Glasgow to see the lightning properly. Great video ❤️⚡❤️
Awesome video. Thanks for braving the Storm and getting amazing footage
Sorry Gordon.....having just watched the whole video I just had to comment again. And my comment? Just WOW!!!! Amazing footage of an amazing storm. Would love it if those sort of storms came our way. Thank you so much for getting soaking wet to bring us this footage.
Purely amazing there mate, I saw the lightning but was all in cloud flashes, was going to send you the clip but you’d already uploaded
Storm of your dreams! congrats dude!
That thunder what you can feel in your chest is the scary ones. But love it.
Totally Agree with You on that one
Can you imagine how strong these storms would have been had they'd been born on a cold front?! We had a low pressure system setting them off, but no huge contrast of temperature variation after. The CAPE would have gone through the roof!!
The cumulative available potential energy did 😂
Thank you for sharing this Storm.
Great vlog again well enjoyed thanks 👍♥️
Fantastic video I was mesmerized thank you for capturing it 🌩🌪⚡
Great video, Mother Nature putting on one of her best sound to light shows ever!
Great lighting great video hope we get some in London in next few days please I love thunderstorms
Unreal lightning in Fife just now
The Met office took way too long to raise the warming to an Amber alert.
Thunderstorms are very difficult to predict
Just searched up Storms UK and you popped up, bit of a coincidence as I watch the main channel, never knew about this one.
Haven't had storms like this in Sussex in ages, even though it's warmest here, we get hardly any storms, last one was may time and that was just a small storm
My second time watching this. We had a thunderstorm up here in Methil in Fife which started about 9.15 in Tuesday night and (sort of) stopped at 1.30 on Wednesday morning. We also had a few rumbles of thunder that day but not as bad as the night before. BTW, I forgot to say how good your camera work was.
Amazing captures. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
great video mate keep up the storm chase really amazing beautiful spectacular scenery with constant lighting and love thunder the best weather ever the king of the skies I'm from faversham kent and we didn't get saw lighting every night last week but had nothing it never happens missed us all the time in the south east some parts of Kent had thunder but here in faversham kent nothing gutted
