Not all dragons are maneaters, important to have some herbivores to balance out the others. Really love this one and it's unqiue faceshape + crest and it's diet of poisonous plants.
Dang I reeeeeeeally wanna hunt these dragons. You really make them feel like a natural part of the ecosystem. I'm sure the plants the dragons eat have some special relationship with them besides offering poisons.
A popular story among mountain herders is that if you bow to a Veilwright, they take it as a sign of submission. Apparently, if you keep low and your head down, you can even sit on the altar with them as they feed. I wouldn't risk it though - all it takes is for the dragon to sneeze and you're done for.
My favorite one so far! The acquired poison is a cool idea, maybe different Veilwrights have different poison effects based on their diet. Eager to see more of them dragons!
That’s actually what happens, if you read the original article is mentions that different plants give different effects, such as how one causes blindness and another paralysis. Though, I know the author would occasionally rewrite entries so it I’m not entirely sure if it’s still the case
@@peterstoric6560 such an interesting idea, I really love this worldbuilding project, every detail is biologically well though of which makes it believable
This is a cool design! I like how different it is from typical fire-breathing dragons. It’s similar to a dragon I designed once. It was an omnivorous dragon that consumed psychedelic plants and breathed out clouds of smoke in the forest. The smoke made mammals high, and when the prey was too high to care, the dragon walked up to it and killed it. I didn’t flesh it out as well as yours though.
Very cool but I'm wondering how this dragon stayed unknown for so long considering how everything about its breeding and eating habits (and our hunting tactics) reveal it to be extremely conspicuous
Humans in the setting literally live under a rock, so venturing to mountaintops was much less common. I’d compare it to how modern science discovered the gorilla relatively late despite them being large and somewhat numerous
I had an idea that plants and crops around the dragon grow better because The poison from the smoke acts as a natural insecticide (most poisonus plants have poison to prevent themselves from being eaten by both vertebrates AND invertebrates so it makes sense) and the native villagers have a mild (Keyword, MILD) resistance to the poisonous plants because there is a small amount on their crops (of course if the dragon sticks around for to long you end up with a poisoned village)
I don't know if anyone said this already, but closing off your esophagus wouldn't affect your breathing. It'd have to affect your trachea, larynx or pharynx.
Amazing video. The Blood letter is probably my favorite tree so far. But could you feature the Rattle Dread in the next video if you haven’t started working on it already? 👍 Love to see this series!
I watched curious archvies vid on this then i found the deviant art and this channel later on. Ts is way 2 cool for being a solo project! Im impressed by the ingenuity and uniqness of the dragons and the humanoids👀. Id love 2 c a conpletely terresttrial dragon like a t rex or maybe a blind dragon that hunts by sound. Maybe one that mimics peoples voices???? Anyways keep on making great content👍👍👍
Audio sounds off. Not sure how to describe it. But that honestly makes it chilling. Aside from that, these are a better version of the Smothering Smokebreath from HTTYD
had an idea that might fit this mythos. a biological potato cannon-come-blunderbus. using a precise mix of fuel gas and air, it builds up this mix in a specialised, reinforced chamber, fossicking around for a particular size of stone. once enough stones are found and stored in the mouth, it begins to hunt, seeking out large birds to shoot out of the sky with a scattershot of stones. not enough to kill, usually, but easily badly bruises its target, even breaking bones occasionally.
I’m pretty sure I know which dragon is going to be the last Dragon we will see in this series The first part begins with a G and the second part ends with a K
The Veilwright is an enigmatic, rare dragon that veils itself in a constant cloak of smoke. A herbivore, it consumes poisonous plants that others wouldn’t touch, isolating and weaponizong the chemicals to integrate into their cloud. A dragon with 10 extra nostrils (8 breathable and 2 rigids) makes the Veilwright Dragon breathing the air better and exhale smokes at it's enemy.
How does this species interact with other dragons? Are other species vulnerable to these toxic clouds? Are veilwrights preyed on by other dragons who hunt them by tracking the smoke? Sorry if thats alot of questions I just like this species quite a bit and wonder what selective pressures pushed them in this direction? Also one last question, do any od the rixuns sequester in the meat, hide or eggs of the dragons making them inedible?
I supose that inside their smoke veil is kinda hot so how do they use the thermal vision inside of it? Do they even use it inside a smoke or they prefer using it outside of it? If smoke is actually hot, then using their thermal vision in it would make them unable to see anything
Some herbivores have sharper teeth for stripping bark from trees (likely for this one since it has large grinding teeth in the back) and others have them for defense and competition (mandrills, baboons, and musk deer). Animals are pretty cool.
This guy just can’t miss
Ain't that true
Even if he’s surrounded by smoke
Agreed
You should make a graphic novel based on your fantasy world. It’s one of the more unique takes on the genre that I’ve seen

This would be the dream dragon for every pothead, imagine feeding your companion a batch of cannabis and just enjoying the high afterwards 😂😂😂😂

It's nice to see a dragon that isn't just a monster
One of my favorite artists and designers. The style is just so interesting and recognizable
Thank you!

The mocking drake is said to mimic voices
Then there is also the Emerald bombardier that One is more like a Utahraptor in design but still it’s pretty close to dinosaur
@@notnehp9074 oh I can’t wait to see that one there’s still so many dragons we haven’t seen yet

Indeed
It’s like a mixture to me: The abilities of the Smothering Smokebreath with the design of the Stormcutter (just without four wings).

You’re going to love the Dreadeye- it’s a sniper dragon that shoots mineralized pellets
The similarly named Rattle Dread had a scattershot of bones, rocks, wood etc as well! Many goodies to come
@@sawyerleeart ooo i cant wait. those both sound highly interesting.
I've seen "Speculative Biology of Dragons" but I want to see "Speculative Evolution," as in, how could Dragons get better.
As always very interesting! Are you planning on showing dragonslayers and their equipment and such? Anyway cheers.
Certainly!
I thought that said "Dragon Oncology".
I mean, it would be interesting.

Thanks
Probably the Clatterjaw, Kinsbane, or Holdtaker!
I’m excited to see more of species of dragons I definitely agree that holdtaker is fantastic.

Yes! It’s my main focus this year
Looking to buy it.as long as there is international delivery. Atlast for central asia @@sawyerleeart

Those are nostrils?! Cool!
Yeah! The head ones are similar enough to nostrils that I call em that, though they don’t have a sense of smell
I remember seeing this one and was waiting for the smoke stack

He is making a book, but when it is to come out is unknown.

Question: in world, how would a hunter come across a dragonslayer codex?
